CANADIEN Posted June 25, 2008 Report Posted June 25, 2008 So what if one of them does? Should it receive government funding or should the government be able to say, "No."?Do you as a taxpayer have a problem with this kind of film receiving taxpayer money? If this film came out, I find it hard to imagine the opposition wouldn't be screaming "hidden agenda!" As a citizen, I have a problem with the government deciding who will get some of their money back and who won't based on the whims of the religious right. Either every person in Canada who produces a movie that is not against the law is eligible to the same programs, or none is. Period. Quote
Argus Posted June 25, 2008 Report Posted June 25, 2008 That's right.By your thinking, though, you should pay for your own damn healthcare. Government should not be spending its money, my money, on things the private sector does far better and far cheaper to boot, right? I have not seen it demonstrated that the private sector does health care better and cheaper than the government. In the US, it spends far more on administration and other extraenous costs than we do. Not a model I believe we should emulate. Thus I support public health care. I urge more private sector involvement, however, and user fees in some areas. Where, then, is your evidence that the private sector does television and film better and cheaper without government assistance in the form of tax breaks? Quote
