I`m just wondering with all the layoffs and downsizing in the maufacturing sector if other Canadians care about what is happening if it doesn`t affect them? I wondering if you think government are doing enough to help those Canadians that in trouble job wise because of laws that the government makes then affect Canadian workers. We see booming time for Alberta, Saskatchewan and now NFLD and that`s good but what about the other provinces. The Martimes have been hit hard for awhile in their fishing sector and people had to leave their provinces to find work. How should the governments of the provinces and the Feds do to help??

If there's no work where you live, then leave. I did.

How a person lives is entirely up to them. You can stay in a spot with no work or you can do as the NFLDers and many others have done, come to where the work is. Some move, some don't, but the result is the same. They get money in there pockets and take care of there families.

Is it an easy thing to do? No. But whats better, Daddy being home or daddy taking care of business. When it comes down to it, you have to feed your family and that may mean sacrifice. Its different for every person or family out there but me, I'd rather see my family with full stomachs and a decent education. At least I can say I did what I could. If I'd have stayed with no work, sure I would have seen more of the family but at what cost. Sorry, you can't do sports, sorry you can't have nice clothes, sorry you have to eat mac and cheese again. Bottom line, its not up to the provinces to keep people working, its up to the individual to take care of him/her self.

Bravo!

Waiting for a government to support you is about as smart as standing in the middle of the high speed lane of any highway.

Be a man (woman) and go forth to support your family - and you did.

Fort Mac is not called little Newfoundland because it is full of welfare folks - it is full of hard working folks who do what they must to keep full bellies ain the house.

Gotta' respect that in a big way.

Too many in this country are willing to wait for gov handouts. Get what they deserve.

I`m just wondering with all the layoffs and downsizing in the manufacturing sector ..................How should the governments of the provinces and the Feds do to help??

Well, if the government ever says to you that they have created jobs -- usually it means the government is employing more people. And the way it works, the biggest employer of the country pays though your taxes, borrowing or printing money. It means also rising corporate and income taxes...

My suggestion would be to desist telling the government to create jobs.

Instead tell them to regulate taxes like keep is down, means employing less people, same with interest rates and inflation, tell them to only focus on gas prices, then leave the market alone.

In the meantime encourage innovation with some subsidies and creative programs for small business to investment and expansion - these are the drivers of the economy, hard working small - mid size companies

I don't believe in welfare or EI as we have the good talent idling at home, all the while we have to import foreigners to support the same. I would like to see those who lost their jobs retrained or upgraded to compete in the marketplace, more apprenticeship programs for young people

Manufacturing is for other places, Canada simply do not have the cheap labor to compete on a global scale and I am not sure who you can mobilize for cheap labor - we have a minimum wage rate as a law.

Exploration is key. Globalization offers so much, I mean what are the Chinese doing in Africa, you'd think they have enough labor at home.
