scribblet Posted May 30, 2008 Report Posted May 30, 2008 Gee, is this Liberal MP arguing against publicly funded Catholic schools, it could be interpreted that way couldn't it. http://www.nationalpost.com/opinion/story.html?id=547663 ...institutionalized religious discrimination cannot be condoned or tolerated in this day and age. Discriminatory practices, whether they are directed at Roman Catholics or anyone else, are simply incompatible with any nation that ascribes to itself the fundamental values of equality that we hold in such high regard. maldon_road Posted May 30, 2008 Report Posted May 30, 2008 (edited) He is showing that the Act of Settlement, 1701, discriminates against RCs in that it prohibits one from becoming monarch. Gordon Brown is on record that he would like to amend the act to eliminate that provision. He is not arguing against religious schools but public policy which discriminates on the grounds of religion. Well yeah, I knew that, but the statement really could apply to the religious discrimination in Canada, which allows publicly funded religious schools (RC ) - Quote Hey Ho - Ontario Liberals Have to Go - Fight Wynne - save our province

I doubt he has much interest in the British monarchy. He's more thinking of his Catholic constituents and he would hardly be opposed to confessional schools. scribblet Posted May 30, 2008 Author Report Posted May 30, 2008 Right, but I just might email him and point out his hypocrisy though ... Quote Hey Ho - Ontario Liberals Have to Go - Fight Wynne - save our province
