KrustyKidd Posted January 5, 2004 Report Posted January 5, 2004 Bush was criticized for adressing troops on a carrier, so what do the Liberals think of her adressing troops in Afganistan? Arriving on a Canadian Forces C-130 Hercules aircraft with her husband, John Ralston Saul, and several staff members, Clarkson headed to Canada's Camp Julien wearing a green bullet-proof vest over a light-blue zippered fleece sweater. maplesyrup Posted January 5, 2004 Report Posted January 5, 2004 Canada's Governor General's and the American President's trips were both morale builders for the troops. Mr Bush is a politician trying to score political points with that premature banner that was installed behind him on the carrier, and he has been roundly criticized for it. Ms Clarkson is not running for any political office. Also she bought our troops a round of drinks hopefully with our tax dollars, which is a good use of government funds. Morgan Posted January 5, 2004 Report Posted January 5, 2004 I disagree with you, maplesyrup. a) Bush had every right to welcome the men home with his visit to the carrier. He is Commander and Chief of the Military and since the President is directly elected by American voters, unlike the Cdn. PM who comes to office by a "proxy" appointment, what better person to express America's appreciation to the GI's for a job well done than by the representative of the people occupying the highest elected office in the land. Btw, the troops were super honoured by Bush's visit! The only folks "roundly criticizing" Bush were dog-in-the-manger Democrats and left wing media. Typical. The Left always loves to rain on the GI's parade due to their own petty jealousy. Same thing happened with Bush's Thanksgiving visit to Baghdad. c) When Clinton was President, he did similar "morale boosting" ceremonial visits to the military, and the left wing media pundits like Peter Jennings did not "roundly criticize" Clinton. President Clinton is piped aboard the USS Independence Clinton greeting soldiers in Hungary in his leather flight jacket President Clinton aboard the USS Independence Flashback to Prez Clinton's visit to USS Roosevelt in 1993 when his entourage stole the silver and towels. d) The banner said "mission accomplished." Got a problem with that, maplesyrup? Saddam was removed...or rather he moved his psycho body from the presidential palace to the spider hole where he belonged. e) President Bush was not running for office when he met the returning troops on USS Abraham Lincoln. Bush was President at the time. Still in denial, maplesyrup? f) The only office that is appropriate for Clarkson is a CBC office. That fits her to a T. I'm not a big fan of the Gov. General's office to begin with, but to have Clarkson appt'd makes people like me even more resolved that the Gov. General's office is useless and a waste of money. g) What a nice thought...so "egalitarian of you...you hope that Clarkson bought a round of drinks for Canadian troops? He, he. Maybe she would do better by the troops by donating her salary and travel allowance to the military so they could buy decent bullet proof vests and other equipment that they need. Knocking back mugs of beer with an ex-CBC media hack is not what the chronically under funded Cdn. troops need, thank you very much. Quote
KrustyKidd Posted January 6, 2004 Author Report Posted January 6, 2004 The only office that is appropriate for Clarkson is a CBC office. That fits her to a T. I'm not a big fan of the Gov. General's office to begin with, but to have Clarkson appt'd makes people like me even more resolved that the Gov. General's office is useless and a waste of money. Tell me about it. You have assistant this and that, secretaries of every stinking thing you can imagine and MPs crawling out of every Government orifice and we carry on with a achaeic tradition of subservience to a withered old bitch who simply sits on a tax free fortune in Britain? Lord help us! The role of GG if you must have it should be in the form of a lottery to see which street person needs the money the most or at the very least which woman looks better than Cretien. I think that as a trooper in the ME I'd rather suck face in my dreams with screw face than her any day. Governor General, I wonder if she is reporting back to the queen how lost we are in this country? How the Liberals have this big pyramid scheme going on that will colapse within a decade or two and that political correctness is taking over our most grounding institutions? Unless of course the GG postition is a waste of money and she really does not report at all. Hmmmmmm Kind of like a Liberal ethics guy. Quote We're Paratroopers Lieutenant. Craig Read Posted January 8, 2004 Report Posted January 8, 2004 I agree. Waste of time, money and air. Canada should get over its colonial complex, cancel the GG office grow up and become an adult nation. The GG is a mockery and a tax payer funded relic and idiocy. Quote
