Canada: Blame America
PocketRocket replied to Montgomery Burns's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
*SIGH* Yet another thread has turned into a "gun" thread. And I just posted a reply in the other one including sites and stats, etc. But, to get back to the root and title of this thread..... .....what's up, MONTGOMERY??? You have started more threads about Canada pointing fingers at the USA than anyone else I can think of. Do you really love them so much??? Yeah, politicians do that. They point fingers. It's what they do. Even American politicians. In Canada's case, we may do it a bit more (probably because the USA is such a big target), but there's plenty of it going on from the USA as well. Softwood lumber; we're to blame for low prices, so we get penalized with tariffs. Marijuana; we're to blame for SO much pot that gets smuggled in to the USA, but hey, their lax gun laws have NOTHING to do with the ease of carrying a handgun across the border into Canada. Mad Cow; One Canadian cow tests positive, so all our beef is banned from the USA, yet when an American cow tests positive, it's "an isolated incident", and "probably from a Canadian herd". Strange, that. And my personal favorite, from a couple years ago when we had the big blackout in eastern Canada/USA......"It's Canada's fault......thay screwed something up"....or something to that effect. Stateside politicians screamed for weeks that Canada was responsible for the blackout. It wasn't until it had all blown over, and both political and domestic tempers had cooled before the USA admitted that the whole blackout was caused by a Michigan utility company and exacerbated by some other technical problems in the USA's side of the grid. So, in a nutshell, try to balance your views and postings by showing that American politicians also blame (unjustly) Canada whenever it is convenient for them to do so. -
Martin to press Rice on guns
PocketRocket replied to Leafless's topic in Canada / United States Relations
Well, did a quick search regarding violent crime in Canada, compared to USA. http://www.google.ca/search?hl=en&q=canada...o+present&meta= .....said....... It also went on to opine..... This site..... http://www.nationmaster.com/graph-T/cri_mur_cap .....shows Canada with a homicide rate only 1/4 that of the USA. Other sites show the homicide rate in Canada actually falling over the past several years, just as it is doing in the USA as well. So regarding these points.... Maybe we should look at the social issues that lead to violent crime, instead of making the same mistakes our neighbours have. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> .....it seems that the trend is actually in the opposite direction, although I do agree with 'DOG in that we should indeed be looking to social issues. But one thing is certain; we've all heard about drive-by shootings. Never heard of a drive-by stabbing. When you have to get close-up and personal, then murder loses some of its urban "appeal". Handguns are a lot easier to conceal than a rifle, and are the weapon of choice for such shootings. No need for them. -

Good for him. I own a couple rifles, but no handguns. Don't see a need for it. Certainly don't see a need to carry to protect myself. As for the USA helping with smuggling of handguns, well, they want us to help prevent pot moving south, what's the problem with asking the to return the favor with guns moving north??? Actually, the ease with which a pistol can be purchased in the States is ludicrous. I spent several months touring parts of the US in a couple bands I've sorked for over the years. Last time, in '94, I was in a gun shop. Asked about buying a pistol. The guy made it perfectly clear that if I was willing to shell out an extra $20.00, he'd give me a pistol immediately, citizenship notwithstanding. That's how easy it is, and that's in a legal firearm outlet. Another thing I have a bit of an issue with is the right to carry, anywhere (almost), and any time. In only 4 or 5 months worth of work in the USA, I saw more instances of a gun being fired, either in a bar, or in the street directly outside, than I have ever seen in Canada. That wouldn't be hard as I've never seen someone pull a gun in public in Canada. But when you see it happen 2 or 3 times a week, it kinda makes you wonder. -
Bill C-407, a Bill to legalize euthanasia

I must have missed that. I would still want to know in what way his condition deteriorated before passing judgement on this. I mean, if his brain was oxygen-starved somehow, well, that'd make him brain-dead despite the LS. Unfortunately, that info is not given. I imagine it'll come out in time. -
Well, according to........ http://www.answersingenesis.org/home/area/.../cains_wife.asp (which happens, I noticed, to be run by the same organization to which the original link in this thread referred)... So, I guess the postulation is that we are all descended from the incestuous relationship carried on by Adam's children. Could this be why incest is reputed to be so much higher in the southern states where the Bible Belt is still such a powerful tether??? After all, if it's good enough for Adam and family.....

PocketRocket replied to kimmy's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
I wasn't even aware it was on. You were on the wrong channel, KIMMY. That was "The Daniel Boone Story". Quit changing channels all the time. You ended up watching Monty Python's Life Of Brian. Me neither True. True again. True yet again. At least in Margaret's case. How liberated can you get??? Just ask Mick Jagger All so true. What's to challenge??? You painted the picture of perfection in your previous comments. Are you bucking for a writer's job on part III???? VOTE KIMMY!!!!! -
HAHAHA!!!!!! <{POST_SNAPBACK}> There's an old saying that there are 2 types of criminals, those who are unsuccesful, and lawyers. I guess politicians make three. On a related note, I heard something on the news the other day about the return of Svend......by way of explanation, he said he stole the ring in "a moment of supreme irrationality" (default setting for a politician), and that he is a manic depressive, and suffers from bipolar disorder. Bipolar=Schizophrenic. Like we need more schizo's in parliament.

What are you saying? Is it against international law to enforce international law? Or is there some World Body that control US policy by overruling elected US representatives in the Senate and the House of Representatives, i.e., Congress? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Who appointed the USA as sole international police force??? When you can answer that, your argument will hold water. International law should be passed, interpreted, and enforced by an international body. The fact that Bush and company used UN resolutions as an excuse to start a war, which was NOT approved by that selfsame international body is the height of hypocrisy. And, according to INTERNATIONAL law, illegal. Congress can pass domestic law within the USA's borders. She cannot pass and/or enforce international law. -

Good point regarding use of media, ARMYGUY. I don't remember who first said it, but it goes "Who controls communications, controls the country". The US, and the new Iraqi government, need to get the common, grassroots citicenry to turn unequivocally against the insurgency. Unfortunately, as it currently stands, it seems a lot of the Iraqi people's sympathies still lay with the insurgents. -

I understand. It takes time to clean a dinosaur's litterbox. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Yeah, and my back-hoe is broken. I'm having to shovel it all manually. Much like a politician Back to topic, the question is, as previously pointed out, was he ever actually on life support??? (The murder victim, not the dinosaur) -
Hey, gotta keep your T-Rex clean, inside and out Heh heh. Maybe the author is in error here. After all, the flood would make a good Creationist argument as to why the dinosaurs are extinct. Regarding death not existing before that, we have to ask ourselves does this refer to human death only, or to ALL death. If the former, then if we are to believe that Adam and Eve were the VERY FIRST humans, then there was NO ONE TO DIE before that. Duh If it's the latter, then it must have been a bitch getting rid of a tapeworm. Hell, you'd have to coax it to voluntarily leave. "Here wormy, wormy wormy...." What about fruit and vegetables??? Eat a carrot, and the damn thing just keeps on growing inside you.... And hey, the T-Rex didn't eat any apple, so why isn't HE still immortal???
-
Occasionally, when the flood control beast bites me, I simply start writing my reply first (I always write out my replies in "Wordpad"). then go back and grab any quotes I want to use, then copy/paste. Works for me, and lets me see less of the flood warning.

Yodeler: Sorry I haven't responded sooner, but I just haven't had time. You're right about one thing, no news about why he was "unplugged", if indeed he was ever "plugged in". I did a search, and they all simply detail the barest facts, ie; two men watched as a third attacked. Not even anything about him being either put on or taken off life support. But then again I don't recall any past news stories which detail how such a victim was treated in hospital. Difficult to say, really. -

Indeed, it is abominable. And this Ralph Peter's character is doing just that for his own political gain. -
God speaks to George Bush?
PocketRocket replied to PocketRocket's topic in Federal Politics in the United States
Yes, yes, MONTY, but it still leaves a few you haven't addressed. Based on evidence at least as compelling as that which started the Iraq was, I'd say Bush thinks he's talking to God. -

This is another case of "the ends justify the means" type of thinking. Unfortunately, this kind of thing will rile up a lot more Muslims internationally, not just the Taliban members at whom it was aimed. Not real good long-term thinking. -
God speaks to George Bush?

Hey, BURNS, here's another one, although I'm sure you'll find fault with the source, or something..... http://www.commondreams.org/views04/0901-03.htm Same page also includes this quote..... -
God speaks to George Bush?
PocketRocket replied to PocketRocket's topic in Federal Politics in the United States
This "Bush said God told him to do it" story is as phony as John Kerry. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> As usual, the White House denies something, and some people swallow it hook, line and sinker. But I notice you failed to address the other incident I cited, so I'll give it to you again....... http://politicalwire.com/archives/2004/07/...of_the_day.html Although I suppose those lying Amish people, tools of the Devil that they are, are spinning more falsehoods to bring down the White House Prophet, er sorry, The President. After all, Amish are known to be dishonest, aren't they??? Hmm??? -
God speaks to George Bush?
PocketRocket replied to PocketRocket's topic in Federal Politics in the United States
Yep, he's a regular "love your enemies" kind of guy. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I guess he feels there aren't enough people to love, 'cause he sure seems bent on making as many enemies as possible. -
Does God really speak to, or through, George Bush??? http://www.firedupmissouri.com/node/2764 The same comments can be found here, along with the heretofore unrevealed dozen or so averted terrorist attacks...... http://www.guardian.co.uk/usa/story/0,12271,1586978,00.html ....interesting how we never heard of these averted attacks before. I would think that Bush would want to publicize them to help maintain support for his war. GW has also said..... http://www.irregulartimes.com/godspeaksthroughme.html .....while addressing a small crowd of Amish people in July. With all the wars started over religion, this is starting to worry me. After all, didn't God also speak to Mohammed??? And look what came of that!!!

I'd hate to be the one that has to clean the litterbox.

"Forever War" Good handle. No one "wins" a war like this. As long as the enemy is a faceless group without a country, there can be no definitive victory.

And some of them, when hanging out, don't even have any panth-e-on (silent 'e') (Sorry, bad pun, but I'm still on my first coffee ) -
So many people take coffee way too seriously, like they're professional wine-tasters or something. To me, coffee is something to be made strong and hot, and consumed when I need to wake up. As a beverage, it's certainly not something I drink for enjoyment (unless it's liberally dosed with Sheridan's or Crown Royal or Bailey's or Kalua or.......)

OMG, a sensible post!!!! Congratulations in advance, Grandma!!!! ( No offense intended, I figured I'd just give you a leg-up on the upcoming new moniker ) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> The moniker is more trouble than you would think. My self image is not as Grandma, Granny, Baba, etc. My preference is Great Goddess of Grandmothers, but my family thinks that is a bit much for a baby to say... Any suggestions??? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> So just have the kid call you "GG" or "Gigi" for short. Being a goddess, do you know where I might meet a goddess of lapdancers???
