  1. I've always thought it impossible for Canada to defend its borders against an all-out invasion. We have neither the population nor the money to create and support a military of sufficient might to take on the invasionary forces of say, a China or a Russia. Besides if any large nation came after us, the U.S. would gladly take on the attacker--not to save Canadian hides but to prevent an invading country from taking control of our natural resources and establishing a base from which to attack the U.S. Thus, it seems to me the only ones we have to fear is the United States, which will undoubtedly conquer us by force or through an econmic stranglehold. In either event, I am not optimistic about our ability to retain our sovereignty in any significant sense for very much longer. Notwithstanding that I am very much opposed to the foreign policies of GWB, I think we can huff and puff all we like but the U.S. will ultimately prevail. As a Canadian citizen I've never felt as threatened by the U.S. as I have since Bush took over the American presidency. If you agree, fine, but if you don't I'd love to hear an argument which could put my mind at ease.
  2. Gee thanks, but got no bible to check it out. So is it all in the terminology then, like slaughtering is not killing? Guess that's why we have to pay intermediaries--preachers, rabbis, priests, et al to help god's obtuse understand the word. Bah bah bah
  3. The Moral Right - The Iraqi War Rocks! I'm not a religious person, but it seems to me that the religious right are great students of the Bible. Yes, well, then, perhaps those of the religious right who support the invasion of Iraq could help shed some light on one of the commandments--issued by God I understand--which alludes to killing being a sin. Can you confirm such a commandment? If so, can you tell me if God made some exceptions that I am unaware of--like did he exclude the wholesale slaughter of Iraqis and other such groups which the United States deems expendable in its pursuit of black gold or any other commodity it wishes to control? But, of course, under the guise of liberating the Iraqis from Saddam. No, I mean, under the guise of finding WMD. No, I mean, under the guise of getting to the guys who helped Bin Laden orchestrate the demolition of two WT towers and the killing of 3,000 people. Good grief, if Bush can't tell it straight, how do you expect me to get it straight. In any event, guess I lost religion when I first began to take notice that many religious and secular leaders (like the one south of the 49th who actually speaks to God) are accomplished liars, cheaters, and thieves who condone killing in certain instances which they alone define. Nope, I ain't got no religion but hey, good common sense works for this pragmatist.
  4. I'm with you, maplesyrup! Sounds like you care about people over profits. Amazing in these times of abject greed and I'm doing ok, Jack!
  5. I would imagine that G's just the token thug. It takes many thugs to make up a government. Hell, that's why individuals spend so much time, energy, and others money to claw their way into office--to enter the hallowed halls of thuggery. And rarely are they disappointed because damned if they don't go through the very same process to get re-elected. I'm hoping there's nobody "out there" who still actually thinks of politicians as public servants. All I can say is that we the public should just be humbly thankful that those who "serve" us don't fleece us more than they do. Praise the Lord.
  6. Fox News is an abominable oxymoron. The fact that the CRTC has given the nod to Fox pounds another nail in the coffin of Canadian enlightenment. Any t.v./radio station, newspaper (American or otherwise) which endorses the U.S.A.'s preemptive strike on Iraq which has resulted in the slaughter of 10's of thousands of Iraqi citizens and maimed 10's of thousands more is nothing short of obscene. And isn't it easy to champion slaughter and prisoner abuse when you're not subject to it yourself. It's through the kind of propaganda spewed out by Fox which helps rally the ignorant to arms. Sad to say, but the day will come when the watchers of Fox will finally "get it." But alas, it will be too late. It's clear to me that Fox and its followers won't be calling for a halt any time soon to the spilling of blood by their own young soldiers. And yet so many Americans, and to a lesser degree, Canadians buy into Fox's line. What irony. Fox. My only hope is that Canadians will prove to be sufficiently principled as to boycott Fox among other stations who promote wholesale slaughter of a defenceless nation. Unfortunately, lack of principle knows no borders.
