Canadian Government Guilty of Violating Khadr's Rights
CANADIEN replied to Keepitsimple's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Find the judgement, and you will. To quote the court, In other words, our government was a participant in a process that involved torture, denial of access to a lawyer, long detention without trial, and violation of rights. And BTW, in case you are tempted to go that route, Khadr should have been tried and found guilty years ago according to fundamental rules of justice. -
Canada caters to France and their cultural ideologies
CANADIEN replied to Leafless's topic in Moral & Ethical Issues
Good for you... not I have seen any instance of you saying it on this thread. And that still does not explain or excuse your whining about the fact that a aid conference is taking place in Montreal. That your opposition to the rights of other Canadians would translate into such lows is quite frankly pathetic. But it is now a different story as Mr. Harper appears to be taking a leading role in rebuilding Haiti. I suggest that the opinion of most other people on whether or not Canada should help Haiti has nothing to do with La Francophonie, or language issues. And I suggest that the reaction of the federal government has little to do with it either. After all, most Canadians and our government do not really care about what language they spoke in Haiti and what international organization they belong ro, Only you insist of making it an issue. -

Irrelevant. French is obviously not dormant in Canada. -

Nor did I say you made such a claim. I don't know what it means, for one good reason. It is gibberish, it is not English. Paranoia... like the one that consists in seeing corruption, dictatorship, treason when there's none? As for insults... nothing like the insults to common sense you keep posting, like.. You'll never get a clue. -

Nah... he's firmly in the middle of nowhere. -

Nope. He found out what governments since the founding of Jericho (almost 10000 years ago) have been hiding... 1 + 1 = 5678945. -

Right now, Haiti is even more in shambles that it has ever been (which is a lot to say). Who cares what language the majority of its population speaks? Who cares where representative of other governments meet to discuss what can and should be done? Not me. And virtualy nobody except miserable losers. It is proper that such a meeting takes place. It would be proprer even if Haitians spoke Martian, and it would be proper whether the meeting is Montreal, Stonehange of the third moon of Saturn. That your hatred of some of your fellow CANADIANS would go to such low... Pitiful. -

The Cicero quote is in English, unlike the other particular piece of drival you wrote, which as is frequent with you made no sense in English. I've searched, and searched, and searcged (and searched) and nowhere did I found anything to indicate that the expression "to patronize on'es country" belongs to or in the English language. To go back to Cicero. He described eloquently what is the harm caused by traitors. Reading that citation though can only reinforce what is evident to anyone who has a clue - one has to have taken leave from plain basic logic to conclude that it is treason to defend and promote the rights of Canadians. -
Khadr should make us ashamed to be Canadian
CANADIEN replied to Leafless's topic in Moral & Ethical Issues
The concept of child-soldier was created for one, good purpose... that children abducted, beaten, tortured, brainwashed into killing machines would receive the rehabilitation they deserve instead of being treated like criminals. Omar Khadr does not meet that definition. Like any teenaged thug, he should stand trial for whatever crime he committed. Too bad the Bushites ruined this by dispensing with the normal course of the justice system. -

So now CSIS can figure out the timing of earthquakes? Or perhaps they can cause them? Perhaps they caused one that killed hundreds of thousands just so they could kill ONE man? Or perhaps what we say on TV and the Web and hear in the papers is a vast deception... perhaps there was no earthquake and the entire Haitian people is an accomplice in a vast deception aimed at hiding the murder of one man. Right. And the Earth is flat. -
You got ONE thing right for once, Argus. As Colvin does not stand accused of wrongdoings or criminal act, there is no need for the public to pay for any legal reprsentation beyond that provided already (btw, folks, the lawyer has a legal and ethical responsibility not to reveal with Colvin said to him). As for Colvin's motivations in reporting what he saw and the Government's reaction to it... He did exactly the right thing. What he reported, if true, could amount to serious moral failure by our Government. Torture is morally reprehensible, inefficient, and we are justified in expecting our Afghan ally to live by a higher standard that does not involve it - instead of turning a blind eye if they don't.

UFC's Lesnar berates Canadian health care...
CANADIEN replied to Shwa's topic in Canada / United States Relations
By most measures, from life expectancy to infant mortality rate to affordability of medical services (meaning, how many people can afford medical treatment), to cost of medications, to the percentage of the GNP spent on health to the per capital amount spent by governments, Canada does better than the US. Overall, the US ranks even lower than Canada. Case closed. -

I won't speak for others, but it is exactly because I am awake, with a fully functioning brak and knowledge that governments are not more or less virtuous than the people in it that I find you laughable. -

Now now now... Nobody is claiming that. Only the fact that, by most measures, it's better than the American system -

It is also entirely possible that he initially survived, somehow could get through to this side, read William's postings and fell dead laughing. -

Leafless is not the only one who fell asleep during history class. First Nations other than the Six-Nations have a far better claim to occupancy (and therefore ownership) by 1763. -

I have no doubt about. And Canadian history is fascinating. You should have stayed awakw for it You still cannot get sarcasm, can you? I do not believe in fairy tells. But they would be more interesting, and believable, than what you believe in. -
Feel free to reduce yourself to being an object. I won't. I treat my TV, my collection of old books, my computer well. If I had an animal, I doubt I would be treating them cruelly. They are not human beings. It is no less important. Trading one for of indignity (slavery) for another (racism) does not make either more acceptable. None. Then again, you will not be surprised to know I have no love whatsoever for the caste system. sorry to burst your bubble, but forced labour (except as a punishment for a crime, is slavery). And as with any form of attack on the dignity of a human being, it has very little good, if any, to offer society.

Care to translate "patronage to one's country" into English? And I fear ghosts. Well... we both fear figments of our imagination. -

Until now, I only thought you were clueless. Now I realize I was wrong. You fell asleep during history class and are still sleep-typing. Indeed, Brtiain knew that we could be our own CANADIAN country. -

I forgot, you don't know about things like residential schools, or provincial laws that banned the use of french in schools or in court. Until they're mentioned, and then you glorify them. Clueless, I say, clueless. I never say that those of my ancestors who came here from elsewhere (BEFORE 1763] were not immigrants. Only that none of my ancestor born since 1763was an immigrant. Unlike you, I tend to have a clue of what I am talking about. I agree with Cicero that a fool is not to be feared - which is why I don't fear you. And Cicero would not doubt agree with me that people who know and protect their rights as Canadians are not traitors.
