Natives have right too says Canada
CANADIEN replied to William Ashley's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Of course, it HAS to be. Imagine the audacity - considering indigenous people as exactly that - people - with the inherent right to makes for themselves decisions that affects them. Yep, including treaty rights. And there is nothing in the UN documents that adds significantly to that. Nope. Simply as a way of recognizing the self-evident - that they and they alone can determine their own future. -

Some of the First Nations will argue, and rightly so, that they were never defeated. And, once again rightly so, that treaties signed with them are binding. As for French-speaking Canadians, since when is equality of rights a form of higher status? -

Yep, they have so much more rights than other Canadians, and as a result they live in conditions far better than the rest of us. -

The only two points that are being successfully made here is that you don't even have the capacity to understand the meaning of the word male, and that you will have no hesitation in using the white man definitions when it suits you. Your anti-white racism is becoming tedious. -
God will save us from climate change
CANADIEN replied to Shwa's topic in Federal Politics in the United States
Let's do whatever we want and Divine Providence will take care of us anyway. Yeah right. Reminds me of a story: a priest is writing a sermon about Divine Providence when the dam above his village bursts. Three times people pass by his house and beg him to climb on their boat but he refuses because Divine Provicence will save him. He drowns. In Heaven, he demands to know why God did nothing and God responds: "Shut up you idiot. I sent you three boats". In other words, a believer believes that God will save him/her. A fool believes that God will save him/her from himself/herself. -
Russell by-law spat sparks bilingual study

As I said before, and you would know it if you took the time to actually read the thread, the place of English in Quebec's provincial legislation and services should be equal to that of French in Ontario`s provincial legislation and services. And guess what languages Provincial highway signs are in Ontario? Surely, if are interested in the facts, instead of occasionnally engaging in the childish "let's grill the Frenchie" little game, you'll know what the answer to that one is, don't you? Now, to my question - what do YOU think about blingualism at the federal or provincial level in Canada? That's a good idea, or a bad one? A yes or a no will suffice. -

and guess what, I wrote the following, which you were obviously unable to read: The term "First Nation" may be modern, but it reflects a reality that is more than just recent - these Nations are the first ones here, and anyone one who have ancestors that belonged to any of these nations has First Nation ancestors. Period. Would have been news to the Haidas, or the Dene to name just two examples. Really? Care to explain then how the word was used by Champlain in 1603? The word is more likely to be a French deformation of an Algonquin word. Very easily, actually. -

Any French-speaking Canadian, or descendants of the settlers of New France, who search his/her ancestors back to New France in the 17th-early 18th century has about a 90% chance of finding a First Nation, Italian, Portuguese, German, Swiss or even (oh the horror ) New Englander ancestor living at that time in New France. Only the racist or the idiot will have a problem with that. -

Never mind that the Northwest rebellion took place in Saskatchewan 15 years AFTER the creation of Manitoba as a Canadian Province. And he claims he can teach history now... -

I should have resisted the temptation to read your posts. But then, I would have missed this true gem The First nations are called the First Nations because they were the first (or more exactly, the first among those now here). Duh. That they didn't refer themselves as such 10000 years ago, 5000 years ago or the day before the first Vikings showed up does not change that fact. The claim of the First nations today is based on the fact that they descend of the first (or the longest) occupants of the land. And you wonder why, with one or two exceptions, everyone here thinks you're an idiot. -

What the idiot fails to see is that being able to prove that Louis Riel is your ancestor would get you a Metis status card no problem. That you haven't sought the official (government) recognition doesn't not make you less of a Metis. Should have done my research better. The Federal Government does not issue Metis status cards. National and provincial metis organizations issue Metis i.d. cards though. -

Mind you, he HAS the right to say you're not a Metis - he has the legal right to make a fool of himself anyway he wants. -

You're a girl and the idiot has the right to say you are not a Metis, and so do the Government and the Metis nation. -

If the idiot (also known as Charter Rights) was arguing it takes more than genealogy to identify oneself as a member of a particular ethnic/national group or culture, I would agree with him. The issue is - its smakcs of hypocrisy (and stupidity) for him to use the government definitions that HE otherwise rejects to decide who is a Metis and who isn't. You consider yourself to be a Metis - that makes you a Metis. -

I am indeed the descendant of a immigrant. In fact, everyone is a descendant of an immigrant no matter where they live, unless they are Ethiopians and can claim that none of their ancestor ever moved from there . Still doesn't me make or anyone else born in this country an immigrant to it. -

I would not trust what is found on ancestry without cross-checking it with actual source (spoking as a genealogist myself, and having heard horror stories about the poor work done by that site in regards to indexing - obviously, no doubting of the veracity of what you say). -

I was born in this country, and so were my ancester for 12 generations (a lot more counting the ancestors of my one Ojibway ancestor in the 17th century). I am NOT an immigrant. And obviously, this is not to denigrate, belittle or deny the right of any Canadian not born in this country. Simply a statement of FACT. -

You mean the legal definition created by the big bad whiteys. Interesting, isn't it, that some here would use that to deny you your ancestry while denouncing white society every time they start typing? -
What can you do to stop racism?
CANADIEN replied to charter.rights's topic in Local Politics in Canada
Nope. But some can claim (rightfully) ancestors here from the beginning of human occupation. -

and legal advice to the crown. Mind you, I don't think that there are many people within the First Nations that take him that seriously either. Nope, there was not a country called Canada then, so obviously they didn't arrive anywhere. Yeah right. -

I wouldn't trust Wiki either. Except when the authors of a particular articles have done their homework... As is the case here. I strongly suspect that said "advice" to the Government is in the form of long, rambling e-mails or letters that are looked at once for the sake of getting a good laugh then filed and never read again. -

This was not social engineering, and this was not about equality. This was about making Natives dependant people. -
