It's my business because the unhealthy couch potato costs me money by being a bigger burden on the health care system. If it were private care, I'd have no problem with someone being morbidly obese, smoking and drinking everyday. Why? Because they'd sure as hell be paying their share through increased premiums. Oh boohoo. Fair and equal access to health care? What's fair about me subsidizing other people's laziness? I take steps to prevent myself from being a major burden on the system down the line. I should be compensated for these efforts, or at least those that choose to be a burden on the system should pay for their choices. Sure if that's what you believe, but they should cost more for people who neglect to take approrpriate steps to reduce their cost to the system. There is no justification why I should pay as much as the 300 pound couch potato smoker. well if you get cancer i hope its a healty one.

196700, is that correct what a terrific user name for someone like yourself, a papaya drinking, non-smoking, non fast food devotee who runs whatÉ 50 miles a week. have you ever seen a movie called LOGANS RUN if not go rent it you will love it. its a society that does not tolerate imperfection and goes to great leanght to prevent it. they liquadate everyone upon attaining 30 years of age thus preventing the prils and imperfections of old age. no fast food resturants, smokes or booze in that perfect world you would fit right in. lets ruh forward for carrosel (see the movie you will understand the term)

one poster says manufactoring ca be done anywhere??? is that so if he really believes that possibly he would like to factor in such varibles as markets and transportation. onarion has every advantage to the north eastern USA and thousands of miles of railway and highways to get their goods to market. Come on down to the Atlantic coast and witness the 75% of our rail transportation was ripped up by cn and Cp rail with the permissionof Ottawa. Our higways are all pointed in one direction northwest to Quebc. we have no good highways into the eastern USA and we have NO raillinks left at all. Compete on a level laying field one would have to be from west of NB to believe that. Incidently the govenment grants one poster suggests are dealt out regionally by population he should really do a bit of reading before he allows his mouth to run so hard. we are a small % of the overall poulation about 7.3% (it would be higher but we haven`t been able in the past 60 years to convince our youngster to stay at home for minimum wage) however we do pull our weight in one critical section of the canadian mosiac our 7.3% provides the canadian military with 23% of its recruits. We can die for it, but we must never raise above ourselves and ask for a hand up... i said a hand up not a hand out.

Move from where? Why should my tax dollars go toward subsidizing a business to move out of my town and across the country? I think one has to realize that governments do not create wealth. As a matter of fact, they have shown themselves to be incompetent at it time and time again. Governments only redistribute wealth. We already do that through equalization and by the Federal Government spreading around it's own spending to provide an economic benefit to specific regions. Ultimately, if a region is to be truly prosperous, it has to come from the people living there.

I don't care about any of that, your culture is your business. All I want to know is: how much more will any form of 'Atlantic Alliance' cost me as a Canadian taxpayer? If anything, very little. The idea behind Union is to help the region become self-sufficient over time so that it does not need assistance from the rest of Canada. The suggested atlantic union, if it should ever happen, has nothing to do with culture and everything to do with political influence. We 3 little beavers in the big ROC pond count for nothing, speak for nothing and are generally ignored in the overall sceme of things. Ottawa gives Quebec billions ans cherest uses it to deliever a political budget including the biggest income tax cuts in decades. Ottawa trembles before mighty mouth dany Williams gives NF&L a deal and danny delievers the biggest income tax cut in NF&L history. You will note i previously mentioned 3 beavers not 4 as the expected oil wealth of NF&L has pushed them even further off shore then they were. The people of NF&L still post the higest unemployment rates and i suspect the highest departure rates of any province, but Big Danny has learned from Quebec rattle the sabers, issue threats( even insult the flag) and Ottawa will cave like a roof of rotten timbers. You will also noter i don't mention novia scotia supposed gas wealth its because they have such incompetent political leaders they will never get it off the ggroud if its ever really there. Your question would a union of NB, NS and PEI cost you more as a canadian taxpayer you want to believe it would. A concentrated vote in the senate and parliment and the subsequent increase in population (i province as opposed to 3) would impact directly on the equalization formula. However, not to fear the political swine in all the Atlantic proinces will never agree to anything that would limit or reduce their power in own little fiefdoms. To these swine it will always be preferable to rule in hell then to serve in heaven. Canada is the worlds great experiment in disassociated union it has held together with spit and lies for 140 years , but how much longer will our big neighbor to the south tolerate having the what may be the worlds largests deposts of fossil fuels and the worlds absoluely largest supply of fresh water in the hands of ottawa's ditherers and their 10 little surly suplicants.
