  1. If that is the case, than I would support the changes. Some efforts to incourage certin behaviour are necessary.
  2. It sounds like it would increase the tax burdon on the poor (I dobt if landlords will lower rent), and increasing fees on things that all people need. If this is accounted for in the tax structure, howeer, then it may be a good idea.
  3. You did igrore the balenced budget point. A deficit is irresopnsible (essitentaly constuting a tax on future generations, without the benifit of associated services. I did point out the military neglect, and the reduced social spending, as well as innaproprate use of the budget surplus. Crime rates have droped, and the Kyoto accord is a steep in the right direction, albeit a small one, and is hardly illegal. Aside from a few errors, such as not following the sugestion from a former forign minister to cancel 3rd world debt., was farily good. Asid grom that, and the sarcastic tone reguarding expansion on protected land, which is an important and praisworthy steep, your right in your criticism. Howeer, this is hardly an unusual record, and I still hold that the good outweigs the bad. I do not suport the liberal party, did not vote for the liberal party- but am still of the view that chretian is compatent, if compleatly unremarkable. I dobt he will be rememberd as a great PM, but also that he will be rememberd as a particularly bad one. And incidentaly the new challenger jets may not have been needed, but they are operated by the air force, and therefor constitute military transports, and the argument for buying Canadian is valid.
  4. Chretian has not treated the military appropratly. He has however, increased the amount of parkland and protected land. He has cut social spending, but balenced the budget. On the downsdide, the surpless has been spent more on taxcuts than on debt reduction, which in the long term would allow lower tax without as much social cuts (due to reduced intrust payments. Sepritism does seem to have droped in popularity in Quebec under his government. Weather the good outweigs the bad- I personally am not a liberal party suporter, but think that it has. Chretian has not by any means been a remarakble leader, but he has been capable.
  5. I suspect that you will find that NDP supporters will, largly, not hesitate to ote liberal if the new Conseratie party resembles the Alliance more than the PC party, and shows a real chance of winning. I support the NDP, and their are many curcumstances were I wouldote Liberal- for example, i would hae oted liberal in the recent Ontario election if I lived in Ontario (I dont). As for the pole, I certinly hope it is innacurate, and the other poles certinly support this. As for the association of the NDP with Athoritianian Communist regiems, that is absured. The NDP in actual fact supports social freedom more than does the Alliance. There hae in fact been athoritarian Capatilist goernments as well (Pinochet comes to mind). Athoritarinasim can come from any economic standpoint (as is further demonstrated by the Americian Patriot act). A good social safty net and protection from abuse by concurn for profit aboe all else does not constitute opression so much as protection from it.
  6. Sounds reasonable- if one must deregulate- some trasportation regulation is necesary because trasportation is an essintal service, even were it is not profitable.
  7. Going back to the origional question- the Alliance is far from socially progressive, to those who said the PC is not really conservative- look at the question- - this leaves the PC party on the right, and the liberals as the alternative (the NDP being described as to far left) givin this there would seem to be a slight left leaning tendency on medicare and Education., as well as the tax cut views, the Martin liberals may be the best option. However, I will also make an argument for the NDP- they are the strogest supporters of incresed medicare and education funding. They may rase taxes however- although rased taxes by the NDP would be focused on the higest income bractes. All Parties promice balenced budgets.
