The Internet is one of the fastest-growing industries in the history of the planet. As of 2002, pornography was a 30 billion dollar bussiness. Almost as large, conent-blocking software swooped in on the world like a vulture. Blocking software, with names such as Net Nanny and Cyber-Patrol, are, in my eyes, a violation of freedom of speech and press. Net Nanny has been known to block an entire site on the basis of one or two occurences of "keywords", such as: racism, gay, lesbian, Negro, sex, and drugs. In fact, CyberPatrol blocked a site on preventing drugs. I, for one, am a strong supporter of sites such as peacefire.com , devoted to helping children under 18 practice their freedoms, supposedly enjoyed by all Americans...

I attend a jr high school and assert my rights by simply standing with my hands behind my back and mouth closed when the pledge is recited. I have routinely been to the principle's office for this, to which I tell them to look up the law.

[Continued] The reason Rome met its downfall was because they attempted to govern too many people at once, and too much land was under their control. As far as I can see, the US isn't trying to acquire more land, and hasn't been for a while. The last expansions were Alska and Hawaii, which turned out to be ok. I simply cannot see the US attempting to take control of Canada or Mexico, or any other country for that matter...

I cannot believe that one would compare The US to Rome. The United States will stay on top of the economic and political world until our grandchildren's grandchildren ruin it (no offense to them, but thats how civilizations always end up). The fact that this subject is even up for discussion makes me sick.

I have read through this article and obtained different stories from other sources, such as CBS and ABC. I believe these protestors have a strong case. If the supporters were also not allowed near, then the case would be pointless. But I think this is a valid case that may become a landmark debate.

I'm a happy and peacful atheist, and I would still agree with nova. Uniting the world under one religion, though implausible, would rid the world of problems. In our time and day, hope is scare, yet nova is one of the few rational voices to rise above the crowd. Thank you for starting this topic.

I feel strongly that affirmative action is wrong. The courts have decided time and time again that ALL people should be treated fairly, not minorities over majorities. For example, in recent research of mine, the administrative proceders at Michigin gave 14 points for a perfect SAT score and 20 if you happened to be Hispanic. I believe that 9-11 was a tragic accident and no amount of money could ever compensate for the staggering losses. Sueing the airlines would be the worst thing you could do. It would mean a significant drop in American patriotism, because, at a time of crises, all they think about is money? I don't think so. Americans would be outraged if anyone sued the airlines on which the hijackings took place, even in this age where you could sue M&M's for choking on one.

Affirmitive action is wrong because it is nothing more than descrimination against a majority group. The Supreme Court has ruled time and time again that ALL people are equal, not that minorities are better. I feel very strongly about this and would like to hear both sides of the argument. I have to agree with Mr Farrius. To make Arafat a marytr would mean war for the United States. Arafat will soon enough resign or be kicked out because of the huge amount of negative media floating around. If the US plays its cards right, which is almost imposible with Bush in charge, Arafat my be gone by the end of the year. This solution will not cause even the slightest bit of controversy in Congress because their favorite course of action is none. The US should stop believing itself to be a "Globo Cop" and just stick it out.
