  1. Hey B.Max I think your response to that quote should only be applied to the extremists. For the most part, I agree with the statement. Many westerners( not all, do not accept the lifestyles and ideoligies of other cultures). Its almost as if Rudyard Kiplings poem is starting to apply all over again. But I do agree with you that tolerance for violence should be non.e
  2. Why should Canada become directly involved when we have no reason to be. We don't have a military that is a global issue(U.S.), we aren't directly linked with N Korea via family (South Korea). We don't have a frightening past history with them (Japan and China) and we don't share a border with them (Russia). Although I agree this is a global issue now, the more powers that get involved, the more voices we hear, and the less clear communication becomes.
  3. Hey guys. I'm new to this forum, but after reading I think Higgly has a stronger case than Rue does.
  4. Even if Jong Il loves life, he is still oppressing his own people and encouraging an arms race in Asia that could result in countries like Iran and Syria attempting to obtain the technology, or worse, Al Qaeda.
  5. Wouldn't it make more sense for Alberta to develp Ethanol plants instead of Oil Refineries. Or other alternative energy plants. Look beyond oil
  6. I can't believe this whole Foley thing. The plain simple truth. The man is a pedophile. Why is it a political issue, he should be tried in court, and the American should focus on politics as seperate. The fact that Foley is a pervert doesn't mean the entire Republican party is a perverted party, so why do people seem to equate the two things together. If Stephen Harper likes Ice Cream, it doesn't mean the entire conservative party is pro ice cream. Give me a break.
  7. I believe that the situation in Russia is beginning to turn backwards as well. Putin is beginning to create a one party system in Russia, and is trying to consolidate the power that the Soviets once had. This is evident by the sanctions he recently put up against Georgia. And it is the people of Russia who will suffer. Russia should be a world Energy Superpower, but is not focussing on its own problems, but instead, focusing on its neighboring republics, its time for a new, more moderate leader in Russia.
  8. Kim Jong Il cannot be trusted any longer. His military is brainwashed, his people impoverished. There is no good reason not to take him out of power anymore. With the combined military strenght of Japan, South Korea, and the US, North Korea could be taken down in a matter of weeks. There would be no insurgency like Iraq because the people of North Korea only want to be reunited with their loved ones in the South, and to be able to have a decent living. I would have never said this before, but the problem needs to be dealt with now before Jong Il finds an effective delivery system.
