  1. Economy - First off, I would tax the rich through personal income tax, so that their rates are at least equal with middle-class. - I would raise corporate taxes by 2-3%, but in order to not kill business, offer tax rebates and cuts to businesses promoting and encouraging green and renewable technology (a tax rebate to make up for the increased taxes). - As not all businesses would infuse their cash into green technology, those companies paying more, having a surplus in taxes, would distributed by means of grants to LOCAL and municipal governments, in order to further promote sustainable cities - Have more intervention at the federal government level, nationalization particular sectors Social: - Increase crime prevention in the youth, making sentences more lenient for the 16-25 age group as to not encourage re-offences - install a system of rehabilitation in communities for criminals coming out of jail, as to reduce the amount of re-offenders - Promote clean, stable and affordable housing through governments grants, in order to address the homeless rate Environment: - Promote public transport - Promote sustainable cities at the local government level - Increases gases on pollution and cap emissions - Create a National Board of Environmental Control, in order to monitor businesses and ensure they are being efficient with their environment. - encourage the use of electric and biodiesel vehicles by providing rebates on new vehicles if the customer trades in their old, environment deadly, vehicles. Infrastructure: - Create a complex and diverse public transit system - Create national and historical monuments, as wlel as preservation of historic neighborhoods at the local level - Provide federal grant money to pronvince and local governments in order - Further advance cities in a fashion as to facilitate traffic, buildings, etc. while discouraging long commutes and suburbs (also dangerous to the environment). Military: - I would improve military forces and provide further training, however promoting the army for peaces purposes, rather than conquering.
  2. So, Many of us thought the conservatives, now with a majority government would actually become more open and understanding. Turns out it is the opposite, and i will even go as far as saying they are destroying Canadian politics and values. Since when did Canada become such a military junkie? I mean don't get me wrong, i respect troops and soldiers tremendously (having studied military history myself) but this country has prided itself on being a country who promotes peace. Now we're honoring the military at FOOTBALL games? I mean come on. It also seems we are becoming more and more american with each passing day, Obama and Harper are like BFF's, i'd hate to have seen Harper with a majority while Bush was in office. Democracy doesn't even seem to be cared for, what with Harper's debate limits and everything else, and yes, liberal governments have done it too. I'm being very partisan and saying it's annoying either way, but the conservatives are just doing it way too much, whether these bills were debated about before or not, many of them have new clauses, as the conservatives can now do so with a majority. Like the long-gun registry, never was it debated about actually destroying the records before, but hey! let's limit debate anyway! While i do believe there are some good values in conservative governments (i, personally, despise conservative governments) however i'm not one to quickly shun one away. I suppose i'm just disappointed the conservatives are becoming a BETTER government with a majority, instead of ruining it for everyone. I might sound like a rant, but curious on everyone's' thoughts on the subject.
  3. Ok, since it seems most of you would prefer an alternative vote, i have altered my petition as so. i still feel it is a more democratic voting system. I will also be adding models and information to me site in the next coming days.
  4. Well i'm sorry you feel that way, i do truly think it would be a great shift in canadian politics, and a great win for canadians as a whole.
  5. Thank you for your support, Jacee. First person it seems around here that finally think it's a good idea.
  6. In that case, it will force parties to work together, instead of this constant arguing, which is the whole point of proportional representation. the model works quite well in europe. I'm aware there have only been 3.
  7. i'm suggesting something similar to the system proposed for BC, a single transferable vote system. and by false majorities, i mean a majority government, which is not supported or voted by a majority of canadians.
  8. Run off elections are but one type of proportional representation, i have not included which system may or may not work best, however, if you support the run-off voting system, i suggest you sign my petition, to fight for canadian electoral reform.
  9. What some of you don't seem to understand is i'm not throwing down majority governments, they are good, but they should only be awarded when they actually win over half of canadians. 60% of Canadians did not want Harper, not to mention the other 40% who didn't even vote, cause half of them feel their vote is wasted. So in theory, Harper hardly represents 205 of those eligible to vote, yet he makes decisions for every single person this country? Kind of seems like an oligarchy to me, only a handful of canadians, about 1 in 5 actually want Harper, and this rule could apply to many, many other PM's. Some half won over 50% off the vote, it is them who deserve majorities, even tomorrow, the UK, the system on which we are BASED votes tomorrow for proportional representation, and it is current in all of europe without any problems, so i don't understand why you people are such against it, there's nothing flawed with it, look at countries like Germany, Austria, Denmark, Sweden, Norway, the last 3 rank top of the list for human development index, and voter turnouts are FAR above ours, exceeding up to 80-85% in some areas, even more in some countries. What is wrong with you people?
  10. This new system does not just apply to mr Harper, it applies to all parties and all past, present and future PM's. Why should they be elected on the basis that they don't actually get 50%+1 of the vote, yet get more than enough seats to do so? This is far from democratic, especially when they have such control on the Senate.
  11. Hello there, I have recently begun a petition, hoping that many canadians across the country will sign for voting system reform. How is it that mister Harper's government got 53% of the seats, with only a mere 40% of the vote? 60% of Canadians did NOT vote for mister harper. How can we say this is truly democratic? I hope, with this petition, to bring it to the house of commons with as many signatures as possible, in an attempt to pressure Mr. Layton to apply pressure on Mr. Harper to usher in this new kind of change for Canadians, for a more fair, equal Canadian vote. Don't let our voting system drop turnout rates below 60%, and certainly don't let governments get a FALSE majority! sign my petition to prevent this at : http://www.proprepcanada.weebly.com
  12. It's the conservatives attempting to cover their tracks, which seems to be working for them
