  1. Unitarians support Same sex Marriage.

and I don't agree with your point that "Over half the world" are those religions, does that mean that the will of the majority should trump the rights of the minority?

There are probably more Catholics in Ottawa than Unitarians on planet earth.

And yes, numbers count, obviously, or we wouldn't even be talking about gay mariage. If polls showed ninety percent disapproved Paul Martin would be out there defending traditional marriage.

As for the numbers, there are about one and a half billion Catholics, and slightly less Muslims. Do the math.

I respectfully disagree, I'm not going to get into the whole "Martin flip flopped" thing, but on the numbers thing I really think you're wrong, of course numbers matter as far as public perception, but what I was saying was in a group of 100 people the 99 who believe one thing have no right to tell the 1 what he can/cannot believe.

  2. That's the thing I'm finding more and more prevelant with my fellow Christians that disturbs me, there seems to be more and more of this "It's our way or the highway, to Hell" type of an argument. I'm more of a laid back person, I believe what I choose to believe, everyone else can do the same, you leave me alone I'll leave you alone type of a thing. When did it become our mandate to police the rest of society?

  3. It would more meaningful to use the current seat allocations since there is zero chance of changing the current formula in this generation:

Under the constitution, each province or territory is entitled to a specific number of seats. A senator must reside in the province or territory for which he or she is appointed. The constitution divides Canada into four "divisions," each with an equal number of senators: twenty-four for Ontario; twenty-four for Quebec; twenty-four for the Maritime provinces (ten for Nova Scotia, ten for New Brunswick, and four for Prince Edward Island); and twenty-four for the Western provinces (six each for Manitoba, British Columbia, Saskatchewan, and Alberta). Newfoundland and Labrador, which became a province only in 1949, is not assigned to any division, and is represented by six senators. Furthermore, the three territories (the Northwest Territories, the Yukon, and Nunavut) are allocated one senator each.

I agree, having each area of the country represented gives more power to those areas usually under represented. so the West would have the same power as Ontario and the Atlantic Provinces the same as Quebec, etc.

  4. How long will it take for the people in this country to realize that you can't continue to tax and spend without damaging our economy.  The motivated people will take their wealth elsewhere.  According to stats can.  offshore investment has increased 8X to 88 Billion since 1990.  That includes our PM's ( :( ) offshore holdings.  Still Canadians cry for a nanny state to provide wasteful government programs.  The government must cut taxes if Canadians want to maintain their way of life.  If not there will be no one left to tax.
Jack Mintz, president and chief executive of the C.D. Howe Institute, said the StatsCan study underscores the reality that "we're not as attractive enough as a country for foreign investment, and that's a concern."

Mr. Mintz said it is not suprising Canadian investment in tax havens has jumped in recent years, given that Canada has one of the highest corporate tax rates among industrialized countries.

Well the way I look at that is we have to have hard times now so that our children can have it better, personally I don't mind shelling out a bit of extra money now so that my daughter can have a brighter future. That's what I like about our current financial situation, we're paying down the debt. In my opinion this is paramount because it leads to so many other good things through reduction of interest payments. Past governments (Trudeau, Mulroney) destroyed our finances and now when we're just starting to chip away at that mountain of debt we want to lower our income? We've only had balanced budgets for the last 8 or so years, compared to the massive defecits of the 80s that's peanuts.

Let's not forget that there were supposed to be Corperate tax cuts in the last budget, which if I rmeember correctly were put in there to satisfy the Conservatives but then they painted the Liberals into a corner by threatening to defeat the government and the Liberals made a deal with the NDP to get rid of them, I think they made a huge miscalculation there, they jumped on the post Jean Brault (sp??) numbers too early, not allowing them to solidify before they made their move. So they not only lost their corperate tax cuts, but also they didn't win the confidence vote either.

  5. I have to vote for full marriage, I'm Christian (not hard core, I rarely attend Church) but I believe in seperation of Church and State because imagine if I lived in a country where Christianity was in the minority I wouldn't want some other religion's ideas of what is right and wrong forced on me. So it doesn't really matter to me, if my religion is right and they are wrong God will punish them by banishing them to Hell and not allowing them to ever feel the divine presence. It's not up to me to tell people how to live their lives.

  6. I'm glad you posted that article, even though I disagree with it, because it points out that there are different factors to take into account.  As far as taxes are concerned, for me all that really matters is my personal experience.  Compared to the taxes I paid when I worked in the US, I pay far more in taxes here.  My take home pay was far better in the US.  I don't really care what creative statistics you Libs come up with to try and convince me tax rates are similar, because they simply aren't.  That's my personal experience and the experience of my counterparts living in the US.  I have many friends and relatives who have the same experience as well.

I've never lived in the U.S. so I'll take your word for it, but I just enjoy living in a country where they don't ask for my credit card when I go to the hospital. ;)

Harper took his nine-year-old son Ben to the amusement park on the island following the opening ceremony. The two then had plans to spend the rest of the afternoon at the Hockey Hall of Fame.

The Conservative leader will remain in the Toronto area Sunday but said he will be spending time with his son rather than attend Toronto's world-renowned gay pride parade - where the prospect of a national law legalizing same-sex marriage is sure to figure in the celebrations.

Asked if he was surprised Harper wouldn't make the parade, Layton was tight-lipped.

"We each make our choices," he said.

HINT: I can think of what Jack should have said! HERE YOU FILL IN THE BLANK!

    Layton:: " Yes but he's a "" #*#*$ "" and I'm not!!! :D

Meh, I'm not a Harper fan, but who really expects him to show up at a Gay pride parade? That'd be like The Grand Dragon of the KKK showing up at a Martin Luther King speech. Don't take that as an insult i'm just saying he's vehmently against Homosexuality so why should he support it?

  8. I don't mean to be rude, but why don't you offer up a poll with answers that don't all support one side of the debate? I just read that "new party" post you had and that was a really well put together post, but this is just pure garbage and I won't support it any further than this post.

  9. Oh of course, just Marijuana, Hash, and Shrooms

Yeah that party sounds good to me, although I think with the pro choice we should work to discourage abortions. not in the lets harrass women who go to get abortions outside of clinics by screaming at them sense, just through education and offering positive alternatives.

I say we give it a name that befits the tradition of the British system we have.

The G.Y.N.H.O.P.P. or Guys You've Never Heard Of Political Party.

When we win can I be the Heritage Minister?

  10. I think this is more of a desperation move, after all he sided with the Bloc to try to bring the government down, so it seems he supports their legitimacy as long as they support what he likes. He just hates this legislation so much at its core he's grasping at straws.

As for him not attending the Gay Pride parade I don't blame him, I imagine he would have been swarmed if he went anywhere near it. He obviously thinks homosexuality is an abomination, and he He and most of his caucus are the most anti gay people I've ever seen in Canada.
