I miss Reagan Posted June 1, 2005 Report Posted June 1, 2005 According to the Canadian heads of the Sierra Club and the World Wildlife Federation and even Sheila Copps, Brian Mulroney was the Greenest Prime Minister. Not surprising though, who could forget all the meetings instigated by Mulroney to push for an end to acid rain. And he actually accomplished something! Just goes to show you how far a little common courtesy, towards your neighbor, goes despite differences in opinion. I'd like to see a Jack Layton or Paul Martin make any progress what-so-ever in getting the US to do anything. Beef Ban, case in point. Despite us conservatives being portrayed as tree killers, I think we do a pretty good job at being stewards of the environment. Green PM Quote "Liberals saw the savagery of the 9/11 attacks and wanted to offer therapy and understanding for our attackers. Conservatives saw the savagery of 9/11 and the attacks and prepared for war." -Karl Rove
Guest eureka Posted June 1, 2005 Report Posted June 1, 2005 The battle against acid rain was on a decade before Mulroney entered politics. I recall in the mid '70s when Insurance companies were getting vocal about it. General Motors about that time tried to get an insurance company to pay for the damage to thousands of cars stored outside. Quote

If common courtesy towards your neighbour were a two way street between Canada and the US, we wouldn't have the Beef Ban. I'm saying Mulroney was the one who actually got something done. He understood what the Libs and the ND's still don't understand. That pissing in the face of US Presidents does us no good. Trudeau was a terrible diplomat and an expert at burning bridges. It always seems that Libs just want to take any opportunity to piss off the US just to get a little recognition, no matter what the cost.
