jbg Posted September 18, 2011 Report Posted September 18, 2011 (edited) As the esteemed United Nations this week contemplates admitting the Palestinian Authority, yes the same group that butchered Israeli athletes in 1972 and waged countless brutal and senseless attacks on Jews since their founding by an Egyptian in 1964, perhaps its time to give the Symbionese Liberation Army another look at U.N. membership. Back on February 4, 1974 the Symbionese Liberation Army burst onto the scene with the kidnapping liberation of newspaper heiress Patricia Hearst. They were involved in several bank robberies and shootouts through the mid-1970's. I submit that they were severely oppressed misunderstood by colonialist law-abiding people. This excerpt details their admirable background (link): Who were the Symbionese, and were they ever liberated? May 21, 2002 Dear Straight Dope: The SLA has been in the news recently with some new charges being brought against members of the group. One thing I've always wondered is who the heck are the Symbionese? Have they since become liberated? Where is the fabeled land of Symbionia? Tony I'm sorry, but there is no nation of Symbionia, liberated or otherwise. But before we get to the real meaning of Symbionese, let's have a little background on the Symbionese Liberation Army, OK? It all started with Donald "Cinque Mtume" DeFreeze, who was serving a term of five to life for robbery and a police shootout when he was transferred to Soledad prison on Dec. 11, 1972. He escaped soon after and lit out for the Bay Area, where he eventually connected up with Patricia "Mizmoon" Soltysik, a radical activist not then under police scrutiny. Together, they fleshed out and codified what eventually became the Symbionese Liberation Army. Soon, they moved to East Oakland, where they gathered up the rest of their "army"--Nancy Ling Perry, Thero Wheeler (himself an escapee from Vacaville prison), Russell Little, Willie Wolfe, and Bill and Emily Harris. This group quickly established a name for itself in the leftist community by burglarizing the homes of other leftist groups, taking guns and other sundries. DeFreeze explained "Symbionese" in the manifesto Symbionese Liberation Army Declaration of Revolutionary War & the Symbionese Program: "The name 'symbionese' is taken from the word symbiosis and we define its meaning as a body of dissimilar bodies and organisms living in deep and loving harmony and partnership in the best interest of all within the body." Murder, kidnapping, bank robbery and ripping off your neighbors notwithstanding, of course. In The Cobra Symbol/The Seven Aims of the SLA, DeFreeze explains the significance of the SLA's seven-headed cobra symbol: "The emblem of the Symbionese Liberation Army is 170,000 years old, and is one of the first symbols used by people to signify God and life." Later on in the manuscript he says, "The seven memberships of our federation are men and women who are black, brown, yellow, red, white, young and old." I guess that being both yellow and old gets you a double membership. There oppression is detailed here by the BBC (link): The charges brought against five members of the former Symbionese Liberation Army (SLA) mark a new chapter in one of America's most bizarre criminal sagas. The extremist political group for many epitomised the darker side of hippy California, an era of peace and love nonetheless haunted by the Charles Manson slayings and the bloody war in Vietnam. **************** Most SLA members were eventually caught in a dramatic showdown with Los Angeles police which resulted in the death of six members in a fire as the American public watched on television. The remaining SLA members went underground as fugitives from the law, although some, including Patty Hearst, resurfaced in San Francisco in 1975 and were charged with bank robbery. Hearst was convicted, but her sentence was overturned by then-US President Jimmy Carter. The U.N., in my view, has lost all claim to being a serious organization dedicated to the cause of world peace. The organization has lurched into becoming a hate society, opposed to the interests of free, productive and happy societies that largely fund them. It is high time to end this charade and exit the U.N., stage right. Edited September 18, 2011 by jbg Quote Free speech: "You can say what you want, but I don't have to lend you my megaphone." Bonam Posted September 18, 2011 Report Posted September 18, 2011 I dunno about the Symbionese, but of course the Palestinians should be given UN membership. They'd fit right in with all the other crazy third world dictators of failed states, which make up a big chunk of the UN membership. Quote
Jack Weber Posted September 18, 2011 Report Posted September 18, 2011 Patty Hearst has got some serious cashola.... I'll bet that goes along way to UN membership... Quote The beatings will continue until morale improves!!!
Sir Bandelot Posted September 18, 2011 Report Posted September 18, 2011 I dunno about you boys, but "Tania" was looking pretty hot in that promo poster. I wanna join her club... Quote

I consider your comment about the Palestinian Authority very apt. Why should be subsidizing failed states? Quote Free speech: "You can say what you want, but I don't have to lend you my megaphone."
