UN urged to get moving on gender inequalityThe fight for gender equality is the world's most compelling issue, says Stephen Lewis, the former United Nations special envoy for HIV/AIDS. Violence toward women ranges from "rape as a weapon of war" to "intimate-partner violence" and requires urgent action by the United Nations, he told reporters yesterday. Lewis was a keynote speaker at a four-day summer-school conference organized by the Institut du Nouveau Monde, an independent public-information and consultation organization....
