In yet another blow to the cherished left-liberal view that Canada matters internationally - South Korea - a country that 25 years was a 3rd world backwater - is now sending 3.000 troops to Iraq to bolster coalition forces.

I would criticise the SKs for too little too late but they ARE doing SOMETHING at a critical time when the Baathist insurgency still constitutes a dangerously destabilising effect on Iraqi reconstruction.

So where is Canada ? You want a seat with the grownups at the Dinner table you better be able to pay the tab. And if you can't - just please shut up.

From the South Korea Times: SK sends troops

The capture of the fugitive tyrant is also good news for South Korea in terms of its plan to send an additional 3,000 troops to Iraq to work on restoration projects and maintaining public order. Over the past several months, the nation has suffered serious internal strife over the combat troop dispatch plan, as opponents took to the streets in antiwar demonstrations, straining the traditional alliance with the U.S. In this sense, the U.S. victory this time is expected to help ease the disputes over whether to comply with the Washington's request for an additional troop dispatch.

I've said from the beginning that Paul Elliot Chretien is a sock puppet of Maurice Strong and the United Nations.

Strong is Martin's mentor, so of course, you can expect Martin to take his marching orders from this new-age one-worlder.

That martin would immediately call for this mass murderer to go before those liberal clowns in The Hague is not surprising.

There will be no significant improvement in relations between Canada and the United States untilm this socialist latrine decides to grow up, and elexcts a conservative government, preferably with someone like Stephen Harper at its head, (ie: Not part of the Family Compact/Chateau Clique), who wants to pull Canada's collective head out of UN/France/Germany's filthy liberal rectum.

As bad as Chretien was, I expect Martin to be much worse. Let's not give him the chance to prove me right.

Neal, well i agree that Paul Chretien will be no better than his predecessor. He already flip flopped on military spending increases, saying first to the US press yes, and then to the Cdn press, Nyet. The fact that SK is sending 3000 troops to Iraq to aid the US [which they deem rightly to be their most important ally], makes Canada's contribution a laughingstock. Post modern liberalism is a catch all philosophy of free riding and responsibility avoidance.

France will now forgive some debt :D Funny how Iraq is a 'quagmire' and 'unwinnable'. The French finally recognise that they are going to lose in their opposition to the war and that if they want some contracts they will have to support what they should have supported in the first place - a free Iraq.

Canada needs to step up and do some more. Where is Jean Martin ?? Where is the Cdn military ? Where are the leaders ???

In a conciliatory gesture to both Iraq and the U.S., France said it is prepared to forgive some of the nearly $3 billion it is owed by Iraq and will work with other creditors to help alleviate the crushing debt accumulated by the country under Saddam Hussein.

Foreign Minister Dominique de Villepin's statement to an Iraqi delegation Monday marks an important fence-mending step by the most outspoken opponent of the U.S.-led invasion, coming on the eve of U.S. presidential envoy James A. Baker's arrival in Paris Tuesday to urge European creditors to forgive Iraqi debt.

Referring to the weekend capture of Saddam Hussein, Mr. de Villepin said, "The page of dictatorship has been turned, [clearing the way to] a democratic, united and peaceful Iraq.'' He didn't say how much of Iraq's debt Paris was willing to forgive, but said France was keen to play a role in Iraq's recovery, referring specifically to plans to set up a police school in Iraq. France is also eager to provide political advice in drafting an Iraqi constitution and for French companies to help in rebuilding the country.

Mr. de Villepin added that France's decision to forgive Iraqi debt was unrelated to the controversial U.S. decision last week to exclude companies from France and other war opponents from bidding for $18.6 billion in reconstruction contracts.

Canada can send in the kitchen cleaners and old ladies to clean up the mess tents and wave hankies after the men go off and fight.

Where is the Canadian contribution in Iraq ?

We have more national interest at stake then SK, Ukraine and Spain. Riff of Raff makes fun of the SKs sending 3000 troops - this is more than we have engaged in any conflicts in the war on terror.

Pathetic.

Canada is only an important player on the world scene in the small minds that dominate the CBC, our Federal Cabinet and anti-War ravers.

I wonder, how much do you understand about Canada's military. We have 60,000 men in the regular forces, the cadet program in Canada now has numbers larger than the reserve and regular forces in Canada. We dont have the equipment to help, we dont have the money to buy the equipment.

I live around the military everyday, we are fiannally looking into new helicopters the navy:

New copters possible for navy

Those new strykers Chretien's cabinet ordered which are used by the americans are under review and being found unable to carry out many simple tasks. The can't even fire while on the move. If we want to get involved then we need to look at what we CAN send, not what bush wants us to send.

I think it was good not to go into the war, our military was already over stretched and still is. Maybe if we stopped mopping up after the Americans are finished we would be able to handle what they want us to.

And perhaps if they didnt muder our men, when they invited us.

BTW, where are those WMD that bush was so adament about, he kept saying we know where they are, and where gona find em. Well the UN said give us time, now when the US hasnt found anything what do they say, More time, I say we seriously look at other issues involved in SK going to Iraq.

The US currently has 3,000 men in SK, i wouldnt be suprised, with their form of imperialism, they threated to pull out and only take a passive stance on the nuclear issue, which btw NK has rejected the latest deal.

I find alot of things happening at this time to be very interesting.

BTW the crossing guards was a pretty good point.

Also check out this comical look at the canadian military and its equipment:

hey if you want to send troops to hide out in a base, sure i guess we can do that. because obviously no other nation is crazy enough to really occupy iraq without an international agreement. spain lost 7 intelligence officers in an ambush, but besides that, you ever year poland or romania or micronesia loosing troops?

nope.

sending troops is a farce, they are combat engineer at most nad will never actually fight.

if you want to send troops to study bridges fine. but look around and nobody is sending troops for combat. it would be stupid for canada to do so under the current situation.
