RT_1984 Posted November 21, 2003 Report Posted November 21, 2003 For all you unapologetic Liberals out there, take a look at this absolute dismissal of the West once again. Difference under Martin? Think again. Its the same old song. 333,000 Votes for Bert Brown is “Provincial Patronage”?? FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE November 20, 2003 Martin’s Western deputy dismisses Alberta Senate Election OTTAWA - It’s been five long years of waiting for Bert Brown, who was elected by Albertans in 1998 with nearly 333,000 votes to represent the province in the Senate. But Paul Martin’s Western Canadian talking head, Ralph Goodale, made it clear yesterday that Bert Brown will be waiting a lot longer with Martin at the helm. Goodale was asked yesterday if he expects Martin to appoint either Bert Brown or Ted Morton, the second-place finisher in 1998. It’s a good question, given that one Alberta Senate seat sits empty today, and another is opening in the New Year. Goodale’s response? “On the question of provincial versus federal appointments, I’m not sure the situation is dramatically improved by replacing federal patronage with provincial patronage.” Excuse us, Mr. Goodale, but Bert Brown’s 333,000 votes are not “provincial patronage”. Ted Morton’s 274,000 votes aren’t either. They are democratic mandates from the people. They are, in fact, bigger democratic mandates than your entire party received in Alberta in the 2000 election, when the Liberals garnered only 263,000 votes for all its candidates combined. Would Mr. Martin hesitate to appoint an elected Alberta Senator if that person had run under the Liberal banner? Would that democratic mandate be so cavalierly dismissed as “provincial patronage”? For decades, the Liberal Party has been dismissing real Senate reform as too complicated. It didn’t matter who the leader was - Trudeau, Turner, Chrétien - none were interested in making the Senate more representative of Canada’s regions, more effective, and most importantly, more democratic. It looks like Martin’s joining the club. -30- Quote
shamus11 Posted November 24, 2003 Report Posted November 24, 2003 Click here if you are over 18 Qestions for Paul Martin, the next prime minister of Canada These are a few questions for Paul Martin who is going to be our next prime minister even though Canadians in general have no input into this decision. It is strictly a Liberal thing. Canadians accept this strange phenomenon – of not being allowed to vote for their prime minister. The Liberal controlled media for the most part, avoid these questions, because the Liberals have bought them. They want to stick to their Liberal status quo. Saddam, their old friend at the UN, would understand. Neither he nor his buddy Osama thought much of democracy or regime change. This is the reason the Liberals refused to help the Americans in Iraq – regime change. It could set the trend. It is not likely that Paul Martin will answer these questions because Liberals are famous at avoiding important issues and questions. They want everything to stay the same – no constitutional changes. Paul Martin has already said he is going to have more commissions to study more stuff and therefore, in the usual Liberal way, do nothing. But if you get close enough to Paul, maybe you could ask him one of these questions. 1. Yes or no to binding referendums for all Canadians? 2. Yes or no to set election dates? 3. Yes or no to term limits? 4. Yes or no to proportional representation? 5. Should Canadians, who have a right to the ballot, be denied to right to vote for their prime minister? 6. Should appointed judges be asked questions in public about their prejudices or hidden special interests -- minorities, homosexuals, prisoners’ rights, terrorist-refugee rights and the immigration industry? 7. Should Canadians have a triple E Senate – elected, equal and effective? 8. Should government budgets be balanced? 9. Should the vast travels of politicians and their bureaucrats be funded by the taxpayers? 10. Should the huge national debt be paid down? 11. Why didn’t you pay down this colossal debt during your years as Finance Minister – one third of all income taxes to pay the interest – nothing off the principal? 12. How long after your coronation as prime minister before you become a world traveler? 13. What motivates a man to give up his day job, at $16,000 a day, to become prime minister? 14. Is power the ultimate aphrodisiac? 15. Can you give a reason why bilinguals from Quebec run Canada from Ottawa? 16. Can you give a reason why it appears that Canadians accept this? 17. Can you give a reason why the Liberal policy of bilingualism is accepted everywhere in Canada except by the government of Quebec? Canada needs to be fixed and this is one way to Fix Canada Click here to Fix Canada If you have read these questions, you have permission to pass them on to others or even Mr. Paul Martin himself.
