I am sure this isn't a record. But I didn't see this one coming. Their are a number of Liberal MPs whom are Cabinet Material, but this MP goes straight to the high pay position. Nothing like paying your dues.

Neophyte MPP lands cabinet job

Premier Dalton McGuinty has promoted rookie MPP Michael Chan, finally giving Chinese-Canadians a voice at cabinet and increasing the number of ministers from the GTA.

Just two days after Chan, 56, was sworn in as the Markham Liberal MPP, McGuinty yesterday named him to the resurrected post of revenue minister.

"Today, my cabinet is just a little more reflective of the experience of modern-day Ontario," the premier said.

"His is a wonderful Canadian story," McGuinty said. "He came to Canada at age 18 with a determination to make something of himself. He found opportunity here. He married here, he's raising a family here and he's become a very successful businessperson here, and he's got a solid record of community experience as well."

Chan, who arrived from Hong Kong in 1969, said he's had "a tremendous Canadian experience" and is eager to serve as Ontario's first revenue minister since NDP premier Bob Rae eliminated the job when cabinet was downsized in 1993.

Much work behind the scenes and a VERY successful insurance broker (his election office is next door) and someone who can deliver all the asian votes.

I am certain that if the RAE government eliminated the position of Revenue Minister, then this is a frivolous Cabinet Position.

Michael Chan is going to score an extra 40,000Gs for the title. Good for him. I am certain that this has more to do with Securing the seat for the coming election in October, then it has to do with benefitting the people of Ontario.

While this is tactically a clever move, it shows how out of Touch the Government is with the rest of the province.
