southerncomfort Posted February 15, 2007 Report Posted February 15, 2007 Scary and scarier now who has the hidden agenda, watch out Alberta whoops better make sure the big bonus from that big oil company I work for is in the bank. LOL Scary, and really scary Forget al-Qaida, Liberals provide the biggest threat to our oilpatch The fallout from Mark Holland's big mouth continues. There should be a warning in here somewhere to Ed Stelmach and the sleepy Alberta Tories that the greatest threat to the Alberta oilpatch is not Al Qaida terrorists as the other local newspaper would have you believe, but Ottawa Liberals such as the above-mentioned Toronto- area MP. Holland apparently let the cat out of the bag when he blabbed on open-line talk shows recently that Stephane Dion and the Libs would seize the oilsands if companies didn't conform to the Kyoto agreement's impossible greenhouse-gas emission targets. Holland, in typical Liberal fashion, tried to wriggle out of it later, claiming the Liberals still support oilsands development in a "reasonable and sustainable manner." "I made it clear that unlimited expansion of the oilsands at the fastest possible speed is unsustainable," Holland continued. "That does not mean shut them down." yawn Quote
geoffrey Posted February 15, 2007 Report Posted February 15, 2007 You may see some constitutional challenges here. The Federal government cannot constitutionally slow down any resource production, it's out of their jurisdiction. The oil sands and how much we produce and how we produce it is completely up to Alberta and no one else. Any attempt at financial punishment on Alberta for ignoring the rules is impossible, we provide all the cash to begin with. You'd see massive backlash from Alberta if anyone dared to ask for more.
