"The Chinese women and their husbands interviewed by The Globe and Mail are all professionals in their 30s who came to Canada believing they would find jobs in their fields that pay well. However, instead of finding employment as civil engineers or meteorologists, they were forced to accept minimum-wage jobs."

"Judith Bernhard, director of the Early Childhood Education master's program at Ryerson University, says the psychological damage of separated children who reunite with their families can be severe."

An immigration selection model that recruits professionals who end up being forced to accept blue-collar jobs is a flawed one, she says.

When their first-born turned 4, Faith Wu flew to China and brought her to their Toronto home, leaving behind her second-born. Her daughter could go to junior kindergarten, and Faith Wu hired a sitter to mind her after school. She is now pregnant with her third. "I will keep this child. I want to enjoy the milestones," she says, massaging her belly with pride, and smiling for the first time in the interview."

We let people into Canada when there are no job shortages and we have a high unemployment rate. What don't people understand about this? Lets focus on work permits only and let those into Canada who are willing to work the part time job shortages we have.

Canada is the only one doing this in the world.

What a mess we're creating folks!

Well maybe we should setup national childcare so this doesn't happen. We need these people to use more of our services than they already do.

Go West my friend. It's only East of Manitoba that suffers from the welfare unemployment disease.

Immigrants are not coming here to do labor. They want the high cast life style they are used to back home. The don't want a humble life.

Don't you feel it's time we let needy companies sponsor people in that are willing to work? We wouldn't be having these problems.

And they held a job fair in NB. I believe 15,000 people showed up. Getting people to leave their home is another story. I am perfectly willing to leave this Islamic Canadian state I am currently living in. (watching pakistani kids playing cricket down the street and women wearing buka's doesn't exactly feel like home).

But I've looked at the job listings and there doesn't seem to be not even a single job there for us. Also the houses around Calgary seem very old, small, and far over priced considering how much the jobs are paying.

I feel there is a part time, manual labor shortage currently, and there is also one here too. But that's all there is. I feel the 'trickle up' effect has already passed and eventually there will be a bust in the Alberta market. God willing immigrants will start to land in Alberta. It's my dream that 60% of them go over there. Then you'll see Alberta lose political power, become liberal, and turn to hell.

That's unfortunate. When it's not infringing upon my life, I enjoy experiencing other cultures. Cricket is kind of weird, one day I'll figure it out.

Non-sense. Check NW, SW or SE Calgary, nice newer homes. All pretty average priced, cheap to Vancouver, cheapish (though much closer) to Toronto. If there's no jobs for your specific skills, that's unfortunate, but that doesn't mean that the other hundreds of skill sets aren't in demand. Calgary and Alberta are clearly suffering from a labour shortage. The wages are on par with Toronto or better in some areas (engineering esp.).

A tradesman in this city is a hot priced commodity especially. Apparently the Maritimes have no more experienced people in their construction industries.

Those two hour lineups at the airport for security? That's due to immigrants. The long waits at the border with the US, and the new passport rules which have already destroyed so many tourism jobs and will destroy even more: Immigrants. The cops with machine guns at the airports and at embassies? That's due to immigrants. The metal detectors and armed cops at courthouses? That's immigrants too. Most of the street violence in the cities: immigrants.

True, had we left the natives alone to enjoy the Americas, they probably wouldn't have faced all these problems.

If we had left the natives alone they would still be living in mud and stick huts, dying at 30, and worshiping the sun god.

They do live in mud and stick huts and die early but instead of worshiping the sun god they've gone to worshiping our fire water.

Well then, as nothing has changed people should stop bitching about our treatment of the natives.

Gotta' love it - come here - breed - create a Canadian citizen - send it back to the point of parental origin.

Parents make money, never become citizens and leave for point of origin. Take all that money with them.

Parents retire - send child home to Canada - after all child is a citizen.

Child sponsors parents who come here for free medicare in old age.

That is financial forecasting!!!

That's good. Well how about we can trade. You guys take 60% of the 300,000 epople wandering out of the airport, and we can take 4%. It will resolve your labor shortage, everyone will work happy and learn to play ciricket with one another. You can learn all about the rickes of Islman and it's culture in Calgary. Actuall, this Tuesday our tax dollars are funding a show to show you how petty and simplisitic Islam is. There really isn't a problem. All muslims are Doctors, Lawyers, underemployed (actually have the highest welfare rate in EU).

Yeah. THe CBC and a special interest group will teach you allllll about it.

Why not even try it?

I'm glad your welcoming. Please take them!! =D

Hehehe true. I actually grew up on American TV and litterally never watched the CBC or read Canadian papers. So I honestly don't share a lot of values with most people heheh..

Yup. Thath's how the system works. Called an 'anchor baby'. The US is trying to stop this. New Zealand already stopped it.

Canada? Meh, we don't want to loose any votes on the next election or be labelled as 'racist'

Oh great, my tax dollars going to another billion dollar boondoggle like the gun registry. Personally, I don't want my money going 3rd world mothers, or single moms, or families that think other people, mainly the government should like after their kids. If you can't support your kids, don't have them, or send them for adoption! Keep the legs closed girls. :P

That's painting a large group of people with a very broad brush.

I can give you one example that runs against your statement. When I finished school I took a part time job in a pretty nasty place to help pay off my student loans. One of my co-workers there was a woman who was a refugee from South America. She was doing a pretty hard job even though in her home country she was an economics professor with several books under her belt. She didn't mind doing the work at all either. She was happy to be in a safe country and able to work while she learned the language and could get back into her field.

The Gun Registry was and is a billion dollar boondoggle. What lie is that? Most editorials in the major papers will agree with that statement. The Liberal plan in the last elecition for universal daycare was another disaster waiting to happen. How many billion dollar boondoggles do you want Guyser?

What lies? Tell me bright boy?

I don't want my tax dollars going to another Liberal scheme that is bound to be inefficient, poor quality for my money, or to be directed at special interest groups within society. No lies there, just an opinion and statement.

And yes, I am white, male, British background and proudly Canadian. I don't want my tax dollars to spent to keep foriegners from sending their kids back home.

Spend my taxes on the Military please and infrastructure if you don't mind, but not on foreigners. B)
