So if you're in Texas, and need immediate, expensive medical treatment, why you get yourself some phoney ID, get on a plane to Canada (tearing up your ID in the bathroom), declare yourself a refugee, and then head for the nearest hospital. After a half million dollars or so of treatment, you go back home.

Pretty simple, really.

Pretty simple really....yes it is, except it would not work . Not today, yesterday nor tomorrow. It just does not work that way. And maybe a slight misuse from some border neighbours but that would be a drop in the bucket. As for 300,000 extra OHIP cards out there , it would be reasonable to say that the immigrant is not the main culprit , but perhaps the homegrown idiot is?

And yes I understand insurance, quite well thanks, but to analogize that we must collect before use, which both you and mikedavid espouse, let me remind you , one relatively minor car accident eats up over ten years of premiums. In other words, a new driver in an accident is likely to need ten+ years to get back to what they were given. So if your child, and knock on wood none of us have this, was sick and in hospital for a lengthy stay, it would not be out of whack to suggest that in excess of $100,000 was spent on his care. But oh my, thats $85,000 more than you and your hypothetical wife paid in thru various taxes.

Therefor , the immigrant is not the cash drain we all believe when it comes to health care.Part of the problem but not the crisis it seems. If you want crisis, study the California healthcare system and its imminent collapse due to illegals coming in. Yes we should look at it and start rehabbing our system , but lets not put blame where it is myopic and unwarranted.

Are you kidding?

I'm not suggesting it's the only problem. Yes there are 5 white collar welfare jobs that back each Dr. on staff. Yes there are inefficiencies on how we run the system, yes there is an elitism problem at the medical schools right now. I'm aware of that.

But there's no denying that over 20 years of people using our hostpitals, who have NOT paid into it, it will catch up and bankrupt our system.

YES. That's my point! The very same thing is happening here. People are coming into the country and using a system that they have not paid into so it's bound to eventually fail over the long term.

Oh wow this article is a must read, it almost mirrors everything that is happening here at home.

---- Charles Anthony banned me for 30 days on April 28 for 'obnoxious libel' when I suggested Jack Layton took part in illegal activities in a message parlor. Claiming a politician took part in illegal activity is not rightful cause for banning and is what is discussed here almost daily in one capacity or another. This was really a brownshirt style censorship from a moderator on mapleleafweb http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q1oGB-BKdZg---

"But some critics say the taxpayers can't be the HMO to the world. Last year, Los Angeles County spent $340 million to treat the uninsured; that's roughly $1,000 for every taxpayer."
