JMSTRFNK Posted October 9, 2003 Report Posted October 9, 2003 Many Canadians when asked about there own countrys military often express dissapoiontment and dispair, other cling to the ill concived liberal conclusion that we dont really need one and that the other nations of the world we aid us when ever trouble arises and they money is better spent else where. Well I am not one of them. Do not get me wrong i dont support most armed conflicts (i.e war on Iraq) but should situations arise that do require force, force should be used. As it stands today, we have no navy its on recall, are troops are overextended to the point there ill suppiled, and our ability to maintain peacekeeping and dimished so greatly that we can no longer even be considered a country that does so. It seems unlikely that we could ever again have pride in out military. I dont belive this is true, we have the means just not the will. I could chalk this up to the liberals again, but that would be to easy, I blame the public. We should be far more vocal about our army, sure we often complain and mock it, but are we really willing to put up the money to do something about it? Why shouldnt we, I belive that certian situtations require (maybe not the use of) but threat of force. This treat needs to have weight behind it. Take for example this whole Saudi-Arabia crisis where the arrest and frame innocent Canadain, deny them due process and tourter confessions out of them. Meanwhile our government, aware of the facts ignores it on the bases of economic interests. Well there society goes again putting monetary value on human life. If it were my family member over there be tourtered I would expect the whole Canadian military behind our governments abosolute demands to release these people and that threat was a real one! Quote
