Montgomery Burns Posted May 28, 2006 Report Posted May 28, 2006 National Post Looks like the proposed lawsuit is now up to $63 million. I got a chuckle out of this: “I expect that this very vexatious and prickly prime minister will do it, yeah,” said Steven MacKinnon, executive director of the Liberal party. BOO HOO. WAHHHHHH! The Public Works Ministry also revealed Friday on its website that it estimates the federal government will have to pay $665,000 in lawyers fees alone - plus court costs - in order to recoup the full $63 million. Almost 100 fold. Now that's a good investment! geoffrey Posted May 29, 2006 Report Posted May 29, 2006 The Liberal debt hole keeps growing. Time for some bankruptcy protection? Ironic how the party that forever improved our finances and economy can't keep its books inline. I personally get the feeling that this Liberal theft and financial ruin should be a story right next to Enron in our papers, but apparently the media won't dwell on the disarray the party is in. Hicksey Posted May 29, 2006 Report Posted May 29, 2006 The Liberal debt hole keeps growing. Time for some bankruptcy protection?Ironic how the party that forever improved our finances and economy can't keep its books inline. I personally get the feeling that this Liberal theft and financial ruin should be a story right next to Enron in our papers, but apparently the media won't dwell on the disarray the party is in. The media seems to think that the Liberals are somehow entitled to run this country and that we shouldn't let little things like theft and fraud get in the way. A few libs here love to quote the time during the last election when they weren't hostile to Harper as an example of how the media loved him. I think what that really means is Martin was such an embarassment that they distanced themselves from him in a CYA capacity. Because they weren't drooling over the Liberal candidate it just seemed they were friendlier to Harper than usual. Don't forget they ran the military ad. I have no doubt that had it not outraged Canadians the press would never have cut and run from Martin. That ad was when Martin's campaign jumped the shark and they were determined not to go down with that boat. And also remember that this media tiff is not new. Ever since this years campaign started, Harper was only granting interviews if they fit into his schedule. He put off Peter Mansbridge for a week until he fit into Harper's schedule. Harper hasn't bent over and taken it from the media since minute one. That having been said, I think that both sides are letting this get way out of hand. A man qualified to run a country should be able to deal with the media horde that comes with governing. But the media should not treat him any different than they did the last PM. I think a pissing contest that lasts past the time the Liberals name their leader hurts the CPC more than it helps it. The main reason why they weren't as hostile to Harper as in the past is because of The Peter Kent Challenge. geoffrey Posted May 31, 2006 Report Posted May 31, 2006 It comes down to the fact that I can't trust a party that can't keep its books in order to keep the countries books in order... even with the addition of millions of misappropriated funds. I'd consider a liberal vote if they had a good right of centre leader (Bevilacqua) and backed off on gun registries and other wastes but its hard to support any party that is less fiscally sound than the NDP.
