gerryhatrick Posted April 1, 2006 Report Posted April 1, 2006 After grilling Bush, Helen Thomas gets thousands of flowersBy Albert Eisele The roses kept coming - and coming - and coming - to the Hearst Newspapers office in downtown Washington on Thursday, until they filled a large conference room to overflowing. By the time the Federal Express delivery was complete, there were 108 dozen roses, nearly 1,300 in every color. They were the result of an e-mail campaign to show support for Hearst columnist Helen Thomas after she grilled President Bush about his Iraq policy at last week's White House news conference. http://thehill.com/thehill/export/TheHill/...006/thomas.htmlThat woman's got moxy. Montgomery Burns Posted April 2, 2006 Report Posted April 2, 2006 After grilling Bush, Helen Thomas gets thousands of flowersBy Albert Eisele The roses kept coming - and coming - and coming - to the Hearst Newspapers office in downtown Washington on Thursday, until they filled a large conference room to overflowing. They were the result of an e-mail campaign to show support for Hearst columnist Helen Thomas after she grilled President Bush about his Iraq policy at last week's White House news conference. http://thehill.com/thehill/export/TheHill/...006/thomas.htmlThat woman's got moxy. She's a one trick pony. Let's take a look at some examples of her penetrating "questions": Thomas to Fleischer: Will you state for the record, for the historical record, why [bush] wants to bomb Iraqi people? —March 5, 2003 Thomas to Fleischer: [W]hy is [bush] going to bomb them? I mean, how do you bomb people back to democracy? This is a question of conquest. They didn't ask to be "liberated" by the United States. This is our self-imposed political solution for them. —Feb. 26, 2003 Thomas: At an earlier briefing, Ari, you said that the president deplored the taking of innocent lives. Does that apply to all innocent lives in the world? Fleischer: Well, Helen— Thomas: And I have a follow-up. Fleischer: —I refer specifically to a horrible terrorist attack in Tel Aviv that killed scores and wounded hundreds. And the president, as he said in a statement yesterday, deplores in the strongest terms the taking of those lives and the wounding of those people, innocents in Israel. Thomas: My follow-up is, why does he want to drop bombs on innocent Iraqis? —Jan. 6, 2003 The day after the allies started bombing Iraq in 1991, President Bush denounced Hussein's Scud attack against Israel in a news conference. The bigotted Arab crone chimed: Thomas: Mr. President, two days ago you launched a war, and war is inherently a two-way street. Why should you be surprised or outraged when there is an act of retaliation?Bush I: Against a country that's innocent and is not involved in it? That's what I'm saying. Thomas: Well ... Bush I: Israel is not a participant. Israel is not a combatant, and this man has elected to a—to launch a terrorist attack against the population centers in Israel with no military—no military design whatsoever. And that's why. And it is an outrage and the whole world knows it and the whole world is—most of the countries of the world are speaking out against it. There can be no—no consideration of this in anything other than condemnation. Gerry never posted the part in his link where it says that this was a flower-buying campaign by the ultra-leftists at the Democratic Underground web site. Does anyone think that helps her already diminished credibility? I saw the video clip (Bush called on her) and Dubya gave her a good public spanking. It was wonderful to see. Attack the message, not the messanger. She's a little out to lunch. There are plenty of journalists that are respectful and ask important questions. Saying things like the US is out to kill innocents and drawing some of those comparisons makes her a little less than crediable. From Montgomery Burn's link: "Bush's news conferences have become increasingly scripted..." Sound familiar? I thought that Helen Thomas' interview was very good and came at a time when 2/3 of the American people want to know what he is doing, since they no longer trust his judgement. She probably won't really care if Mr. Bush now snubs her beause 2/3 of the American people will see her as a political martyr. Quote
margrace Posted April 3, 2006 Report Posted April 3, 2006 I agree nocrap, it is time someone started asking questions. It is obvious from the comments on here that there is a lot of support for a gagged press. Its already starting in Canada. Quote

If somebody who is willing to kil themselves over a democratic appointment is your idea of 'press' I can understand where your philosophies come from and therefore, make sense in a bizzarro kind of way.
