I am the author of a petition that is designed to stop MPs from switching affiliations without subjecting their decision to a by-election in the riding. As a resident in Pat O'Brien's former riding, I have plenty of experience with this. In fact, I engaged in a correspondance with him at the time, with his retort being "I have neither the moral or legal obligation" to run in a by-election.

I hope, with the will of the people, to change that. We need to have groundswell support from the Canadian public to make any sort of difference.

The petition is located at: http://www.petitiononline.com/Canvote

More information can be found on my site: http://www.menardcommunications.com, including my correspondance with Mr. O'Brien at the time (I tried a previous petition which got shelved with the whole dissolution of cabinet thing... http://www.menardcommunications.com/obrienhome.htm)

So far I have had media presence in CP, BN, the CBC, local television and radio, Montreal and Winnipeg radio, and upcoming interviews in Toronto. I would like to continue to spread the word because we need to ensure the integrity of our electoral process. And the only people that will do that is the electorate themselves. This is a non-partisan issue -- it's an issue of ensuring fair representation for the constituencies.

Thank you for your time and attention to this submission.

Sincerely,

Jay

The troll didn't even have time to see a topic was already started on this.

Go ahead with your petitions, you won't accomplish anything (because Pat O'Brien is right), have fun though!
