Guest Peeves Posted April 22, 2012 Report Posted April 22, 2012 (edited) Border businesses are bitchin that Canucks are shoppin stateside for bargains. With the $ as tis who can blame us? Milk, butter, eggs, paper products, cheese, gas, beer, wine etc., books, magazines, etc. cheaper and more selections across our border.. They should look to the way we have and are treated in Canada by business. 20 years ago or so our 'buck' was at 60 + cents and one could expect to pay more than in the USA, but when it reached parity, our Canadian prices never came down. We were ripped off royally. Then the public started to wise up and buy cars etc. across the border, books and products across the border. Overnight buses started running from places like Toronto, and the rip off lot started to notice and whine..."we're losing business....!" Serves you %$&^#@'s right, you got hoisted on your own petard. I say I hope you go broke you crooks serves you right. Long live a $ @ parity..Long live US competition. Edited April 22, 2012 by Peeves Quote

I'm a bit more torn on the issue of whether cross-border "competition" is fair or not since countries' currencies are driven by exogenous events such as high oil prices or speculation. The Canadian businessmen being hurt are not hurt by their own lack of skill, in this case. Quote Free speech: "You can say what you want, but I don't have to lend you my megaphone." Always remember that when you are in the right you can afford to keep your temper, and when you are in the wrong you cannot afford to lose it. - J.J. Reynolds. Will the steps anyone is proposing to fight "climate change" reduce a single temperature, by a single degree, at a single location? The mantra of "world opinion" or the views of the "international community" betrays flabby and weak reasoning (link).

Or compare the price of soap: A pack of 16 costs $6.99 in the U.S., but $8.98 in Canada. The council listed many other examples — including a 51% difference in the price of freezer bags — and told senators retailers are being unfairly blamed for price discrepancies between Canada and the United States. Look at the chart in link. Prices in Canada for same products may be as much as 76% higher! Quote
