On Friday, Feb. 24, the government introduced the Electronic Commerce Protection Act. Tony Clement, Minister of Industry, says the legislation delivers on the government's commitment to protect consumers and businesses from the most dangerous and damaging forms of spam. Among the law's targets are identity theft, phishing and spyware.

I wonder how much of an impact this is going to have.

I doubt much of the spam originates in Canada in the first place.

We all know it will have very little, jdobbin. However, it will give the appearance of doing something when we are caught in an economic collapse where no government can actually do ANYTHING effective until it has run its course.

First rule of governance, which worked so well for the Liberals for so many years, is : "It doesn't have to work! It's enough to say we've got one!"

"A government which robs Peter to pay Paul can always depend on the support of Paul."

-- George Bernard Shaw

It helps not to run a deficit, keep the economy bubbling along and not spending wildly year after year.
