85 candidates from 3 parties have responded to our online 'Transparency Challenge' at ibelieveinopen.ca. Interestingly, 81% of respondants have agreed to publish their daily schedule online, one of our 5 pledges described in more detail below.

Voters can sign up to show their support for individual pledges. The site tracks the riding of people that sign up, and candidates are emailed reminders when the number of voters signed up in their riding cross pre-defined thresholds.

If you think just one of these pledges is worthwhile, please visit http://ibelieveinopen.ca to sign up and let your representative know you support greater government transparency.

'I Believe In Open' is a national movement to increase government transparency

and accountability in Canada. We're organizing citizens to push politicians

to make five commitments:

1. Support reforms that increase government transparency and accountability.

2. Make campaign promises specific and measurable, and report progress on

promises and their metrics at least semi-annually.

3. Publish the content of his or her daily schedule, including meetings with

lobbyists and special interest groups.

4. Support reforms allowing free access to scientific and survey data gathered

by government institutions.

5. Support reforms that make it easier for Canadians to obtain government

information they have a right to know.

If you support these goals, or would like to know more about them, please

join us at:

'I Believe In Open' is a project of VisibleGovernment.ca, a newly established

non-partisan, non-profit organization promoting online tools for government

transparency in Canada.

I think I agree with all of the points but the one on posting their daily schedule. At times, it may not be wise for them to do this, so I don't think they should have to commit to this.

Many people agree with you. From our results page, this is the pledge that voters most often say they don't think their candidates should have to comply with:

Even if you don't agree with all the pledges, please don't let that stop you from signing up. We show voter opinions on each pledge as part of our statistics. These statistics are also communicated to MP candidates in your riding when 25, 50 and 100 people in the riding sign up.
