Canadian Blue Posted September 6, 2008 Report Posted September 6, 2008 Increased scarcity of resources such as oil will lead to increased conflict. Which is why we should switch to Nuclear Power. War in Afghanistan in 2001, Iraq 2003, threats of war with Iran--in general western attempts to control the Middle East. Actually I believe the war in Afghanistan was due to some tragic event that happened on 9/11. That is unless you happen to be a truther as well. I believe that Osama planned the attacks because of the Gulf War, which was about oil, and the US's general policy of trying to maintain influence over the politics of the region. They need to do this because oil is becoming increasingly scarce. Quote Some of us on here appreciate a view OTHER than the standard conservative crap. Keep up the good work and heck, they have not banned me yet so you are safe Cheers! Drea

jdobbin Posted September 7, 2008 Report Posted September 7, 2008 So what? There are a lot of "single issue" organizations out there that also attempt to influence politics. And single issue individuals as well. Quote
Keepitsimple Posted September 7, 2008 Report Posted September 7, 2008 (edited) Who cares what the Sierra Club thinks. This is a group of socialists who are clinging by their fingernails to the Kyoto Protocol, as it convulses in its death throes. They constantly complain about Canada not meeting its Kyoto obligations and by implication, that Harper has abandoned Kyoto. Harper did not abandon Kyoto - he simply and honestly said that Canada was unable to meet the targets that were naively agreed to by Chretien. Canada still participates in Kyoto and may yet be able to provide "bridge" leadership to motivate the ideology-driven Kyoto process to join with the more pragmatic Asia Pacific Partnership (APP) that includes Australia, Japan, China, India, the USA and South Korea. Harper has a track record of being a quiet, behind-the-scenes leader - willing to accomplish objectives and not worry about who gets the credit. The APP has more potential for cleaner energy plans and long term GHG reduction for the planet that the self-serving 1990 baseline Kyoto. The Sierra Club is actually opposed to the APP - a group of countries whose GHG's dwarf those of the Kyoto participants. Why don't they get on board with the government and try to help bridge the gap? Narrow minded ideology, that's why.
