As the New York Sun article, excerpted below (link to article) shows, immigrant workers who come to the US and are nto successful in obtaining employment often return home. While success stories are heatwarming, it is noteworthy that one of the reasons American conservatives are pro-immigrant, quite the opposite of Canadian conservatives, is the fact that immigrants to the US have little choice but to work.

If "Eurabia" or, unfortunately to some extent Canada wree not providing cradle to grave benefits, they would not be magnets for idle, volatile, dangerous people. I may have been wrong in some earlier posts; the problem may not be radical Islam, but strategies that draw the worst, and not the best immigrants.

Americas immigrants are literally the envy of the world.

As N.Y. Economy Sours, Aliens Plan To Leave for Home

Illegal immigration may be solved not by a legislative compromise in Washington but by an economic downturn in America.

That, at least, is the message from day laborers in New York City, where immigrants interviewed recently by The New York Sun said work has so slowed that they are planning to return home to Latin America — if they can save enough cash for the trip home.

The city's expected economic downturn and the slowdown in construction in the boroughs other than Manhattan is trickling down to the city street corners where immigrant day laborers vie for work and wages to support themselves and send to their families back home.

**************

"I haven't worked in two weeks, not even a day," a 20-year-old day laborer from Mexico, Ronald Rodríguez said. He arrived in the city several months ago and has been homeless.

Why did he come here?

"To try to get ahead, like everybody who comes here. Not just to try to survive and pay rent."

Still, Mr. Rodríguez, for one, said he prefers prospects in New York to Mexico. "It is poorer there than here. What are we going to do there, if the country is more broke than here?"

I believe in immigration for people who want to work when here for the utilitarian reason that most of them are, if anything, harder working and in the end more patriotic than native-born Americans.

In Canada an immigrant must go through a ridget acceptance process, it can take as many as eight years to get acceptance. Currently our immigrants come from all over the globe, I not sure of all of the requirements but it's a labourous process. Language and education are key areas that must be met though.

Our refugees are the ones that get immediate access to social programs, they can also sponsor family members. The EU has no restrictions on immigration, and it's members are told how many immigrants they HAVE to accept. Canada's Immigration System is so broke that qualified immigrants often give up out of frustration. We won't be flooded with immigrants or refugees anytime soon because the system is inept.

In lean times I take on contracts that I don't normally do, one is processing Rental Applications and in twenty years I've had no immigrants apply for an apartment who were receiving welfare. Not one. I've had two refugees on something akin to welfare apply and that's it. The ones that drain the system, my opinion only, are young white females. Of those that have applied forty percent have no employment history, no rental history and appalling credit history. These are the ones that get welfare for life if they have enough children.

In my small town the recent new immigrants are from Africa, Muslims yes but very moderate ones. The females don't cover up, they don't pray five times aday and have the odd beer. I often have a chat with a couple on their new life, they are so grateful to have fled the violence against Moderate Muslims by the radical Wahhabi Arabs they shed the extremism like a cloak. They stated they hated the Wahhabi Islamist for forcing their version of Islam on them using violence. These new comers started a thriving business (brick masons) and are a valuable asset to Canada. I have no issue with Immigrants, if they integrate and come to love this country as I do.

Everything in moderation is okay, it's the extremist that can go else where. Merci.

In our country, given the paucity of social programs, refugees don't come for that. They come for jobs (not legal, but workers help, not hurt the US) or to flee persecution. Either way, since we don't have benefits for the refugees to access, they don't come to our fair shores for handouts.

That's very hard to believe immigrant women are having beers. I just find that very, very hard to believe.

Also, they will tell you whatever to your face, but are you allowed to marry into their family?

Let's go right to the meat of the matter. What people say, and what people do are two different things.

---- Charles Anthony banned me for 30 days on April 28 for 'obnoxious libel' when I suggested Jack Layton took part in illegal activities in a message parlor. Claiming a politician took part in illegal activity is not rightful cause for banning and is what is discussed here almost daily in one capacity or another. This was really a brownshirt style censorship from a moderator on mapleleafweb http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q1oGB-BKdZg---
