  1. I don't give a rat's A if it takes effort. Some how having to physically go and vote makes you the great democratic superman. LOL! I believe in voting, and I do every election. I just don't think it needs to have some sort of ooooo look at me I'm going down to the polling station... I'm such a democratic heroe!.... LOL! Just because some countries still live in the dark ages and are fighting their way into democracy doens't mean we shouldn't advance society. Online voting will be the future and will be here soon thank god! So I don't have to cart my lazy ass down to any old age voting booth.... LOL!
  2. hmmm perhaps you've lost count how many elections we have... provicially, federally, municipally... hmmm start adding them up... just the federal we've had more than what your saying in the last 4 years. Time is money. Walk in voting is not for everyone. Obviously 40% of the people don't vote for various reasons. Expense wise it's relatively inexpensive. I'll actually check into the cost just to see. That fact that people risk their lives is mute... so what... I'm not whining.. maybe you are about people you assume are lazy or whatever just because you have to walk to vote. I'm simply here to tell you and anyone else who cares to know... it's comming... sooner than you think! And I bet you'll be one of the first to use it when it's implemented!
  3. Don't you think your being lead around by the nose now by partisan politicians? Every election your lambasted with Conservative nonsense about Liberals, Liberals nonsense about Conservatives, and the odd throw in from another party just for good measure. Online voting would only be the beginning of something much larger than itself. For the first time the Canadian mass would have a quick way of responding to their government if the government would use it. There are Independent candidates who are all for listening to their constituents on an ongoing basis through out a mandate. Online voting once in will change the face of Canadian politics forever! No Doubt
  4. There are advantages to having a higher voter turn out. Online voting is just one way, I'm sure there are others. But in this day and age I'm sure there are many who would like to take only a few seconds to vote verses a half hour or more. Time is money!
  5. You have a bad memory River? Is that what your afraid of? Anyways hope you filled out the poll... oh yah only once....lol.....
  6. Your assuming alot saying what you've said. Many people just aren't available in their riding during the time of an election. School, going south for the winter, business travel etc. there are many reasons why someone can't vote the night of the election. The idea here is to fill out the poll hope you have so we can get a good idea of who's in favour and who isn't. We now know where you stand. Thanks
  7. Yes thank you. I made the poll because there is another thread going on about this without a poll.
  8. Online voting has the ability to increase voter turn out dramatically. Young people of today are very internet savvy and use there cell phones for communication regularly. Most homes have a computer, a phone, or cell phone, so there is pretty much universal access to some method of electronic voting. Security issues are of concern to many who don't know how it would be accomplished. To the best of my understanding having looked into it, here is how it would happen. Everyone on the voters list would be issued a pin number via the regular mail. As long as you don't move around alot this works fine. If you are fairly transient due to school or just not established yet then you may have some issues getting a pin number easily but if you check early enough before the election you can sort out this issue and be eligible to vote. Along with your pin your pin number you would also have established a personal question (s) that must be answered in order to vote. Electronic voting would occur seven days prior to the walk in vote to eliminate overloading the internet system provider. All voting would be tabulated in real time with all results held secret by the designated agent who looks after the system. After the electronic voting is turned off, print outs are made ready for the walk in polling booths to use that will have the names of anyone who has voted stroked out so they can not vote again if they walk in. All results from the walk in voters along with the computerized votes are tabulated and results are made public just as they are now. This is the basic idea of how online voting would work. Please fill out the poll and give us your response.
  9. Ah but wait a minute let's examine what your comparing here. Music/Movies were copied long before the internet was ever around. And there are web sites set up to do just that. Your not going to see some kind of web site set up so you can some how vote more often. Remember the system admin is in charge of who and who can't vote and it would be watched and verified on a constant ongoing basis. If they enforced stiff penalties for the various things you speak of and actually went through with prosecution it would be pretty much history. Unfortunately the internet is wide open and reaches past Canadian borders. But this would be a federal election with in the boundaries of Canada and law. Would be simple to make laws that would severly punish someone who would even try to compromise the system if they could, which I highly doubt.
  10. Do we really need to give any money to any party for the sake of those who do vote? And yes we do need to pay more dollars to who ever gets the votes. That's just the system as it is. The idea here is to increase the voter turn out. Why? Because it is necessary to strengthen the democratic process. This is the beginning of change for Canada and it's political process. Have you noticed the number of political parties and Independents that are starting up. We now have the Green party which gathered a fair number of votes. So really at this point there are 4 parties nationally and 1 in Quebec that gather in a substantial number of votes. This waters down the democratic strength of a nation. You will see more and more coalitions in the future and less and less majority governments. Partisan politics is killing Canada slowly but surely. Partisan politicians are unwilling to put aside their differences. Online voting is something they are deathly afraid of. Because along with it will come proportional representation in one form or another and the first past the post system will be gone. The only way to clean up this political mess we are now in and will face constanly in the future is to change the system. We need more voter turn out. e voting is one powerful way. In fact I will go as far to say right now, the two main parties don't want to change anything. They realize it won't ever be possilbe for them to gain a majority government with as low as 30% of the vote ever again.
  11. Now there is something I whole heartedly agree with you on there Molly. I think there should be mandatory educational classes in our high schools so when our kids turn 18 they are knowledgeable about voting. Also there should be a place for new Canadians and anyone who has never had any real education on our system to go to to learn, such as a community college for adults etc. That is a CAMP ideal for sure.
  12. Actually I would love to hear any idea that would cause voter turn out to increase. My ears are WIDE open... carry on ... give me some good ideas.
  13. Silly very silly, and you really thing your going to get alot for one vote... lol.
  14. Your logic isn't quite right here. There would still be the normal walk in voting. So nothing changes that way. You would still have all those so wisely(lol) thought out votes being cast. And if it's as you say ... what the f..... click then there would be random results that should more or less even out the result based on probability. So electronic voting would only enhance the methods of voting. Your assumption of what the f.... is just that an unfounded assumption with no basis. The less the voter turn out the more your so called democracy is at risk. What are you going to do as the present system of voter turnout declines further. Statistical data suggests it will. We'd still be all driving horses and buggies because automobiles are too dangerous, too fast, unsafe etc. if we all thought so short. And like anything we do have people killed everyday on the road because of that system. I'm not saying there wouldn't be issues to deal with using electronic voting, but your never going to get wet unless you get in the pool. Canada has always been a world leader when it comes to automation. We have the best telecommunications system in the world. We can also become a model of achievement and success and be the 1st country to bring wide usage online voting into reality.
  15. Online voting should actually be referred to as electronic voting, because it also includes cell phones or regular land line phones would also be able to be used to vote with. Also the walk in polling would not disappear. Online voting would just be another method of voting added to the regular method.
  16. Sooo big deal, who the hell wants to send away to get one, wait for it, fill it out, put it in an envelope, lick it, stick it, and walk to a mail box, when I can get on my black berry and in seconds be done with it.... jeezzzzzzz wake up and smell the coffee bud! Time is money!
