  1. The British press was agog recently with the trial of Ian Huntley, who was eventually convicted for the murder to two eleven year old girls. He tried to hide his crime by cleaning his home thoroughly and burning the bodies and the girls clothes. He was abetted in this crime by his girlfriend, Maxine Carr, who lied about where she was at the time of the girl's disappearance. For a couple of weeks this distracted the attention of the police from Huntley, who was being investigated for other sexual crimes with young girls. In the end Huntley was given two consecutive life sentences and Maxine Carr was given a sentence which will set her free no later that May of this year. Although I have seen nothing in the Canadian or British press about it, my sister heard on the British news that Carr is to be given a new identity upon her release from prison and shipped off to Canada for a new life far from those people in the UK who might recognise her. I wrote to my MP, James Lunney, about one month ago but so far have received no reply. My concern is that the average Canadian will not welcome someone like this into our midst and I asked him to raise the question so that we might resist having this woman foisted upon us. Who knows where she may choose to settle or whose neighbour she may eventually be. Do you want her living next to you? Given the stringent rules we apply to other immigrants, why do we need someon like Maxine Carr here? Please do your homework and if you agree that we don't want her here, write to your MP. Maybe yours will take the time to reply. gj
