  1. Racism has received a really bad rap. Well, speaking of RAP, now THERE'S Racism! "Even White boys got 'the shout" (from "I like big butts") "White Men Can't jump" (the movie) "White Girls" (the Rap song) "Play That Funky Music White Boy" (the song by Wild Cherry) Eddie Murphy imitates [and slanders] White ["Crackers"] walking. In the movie "Tank", Dorian Harewood's character says "The sheriff in this town is a mean Cracker." So how they can slander a Caucasian, but Caucazoids [the CORECT name] can't even JOKE to them??!! I hear it so much: "isms are BAD", but how about these: Capitalism Baptism Evangelicanism Oh ... how about PATROITISM? "Racism" is defined by the dictionary as "The belief that a race is superior or inferior to another race". Those Black guys who think their is larger than other races – they are being racist! Sure, we think it's "cute" or that we're "not being racist", etc. When you tense-up as that Burley Biker walks past you, remember - that is predjudice. but we ACCEPT it - he is WHITE ... it's OK to be mean/predjudice against a WHITE guy. Not to get off the topic too much, but in present-day America, the TAIL is wagging the DOG. throughout history, (including the the 1st & 2nd reich) fell because of this. The 3rd Reich didn't (Nazi regime), but the 4th Reich (the USA) is quickly heading for this same path. Amazing - in all our intellectual conceit - that we can't see this right in front of our noses. :-)
  2. The THREE official languages of Canada are English, French, and Iniktut. The Inuit speak the latter. AMERICANS call them the derogatory "Eskimos" (as they call Native Indian women the derogatory "Squaw" [meaning "whore" - yes, I'm part cherokee]. Unuit live in Nunuvut, formerly the Northwest Territories. there's LOTS of info at: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alert,_Nunavut http://timchristie.ca/alert/ http://troywoodintarsia.com/alert/ltpage1.html http://www.grc.k12.nf.ca/climatecanada/alert.htm http://www.interlog.com/~grlaird/onthinice2.html http://www.athropolis.com/map2.htm http://www.factmonster.com/spot/nunavut1.html Enjoy!
  3. A) In the USA, they used to say "If you don't LOVE it; LEAVE it!", so I urge you to follow your heart. You are free to do so. The cultures [between the US and Canada] ARE similar (thanks, in part, to Television). The biggest differences are Socialism and Metric. Before you say "Booo!", let me remind you of 2 things: If you believe in a guy names Jesus Christ, then please know that HE was a Socialist - NOT a Capatalist. If you hate metric, then I'll ask you a few questions: Q: What size engine does your car have in it? A: 2.4 (that's LITERS!) Q: What about your motorcycle? A: It's a 750 (that's cc - Cubic CENTIMETERS!) Q: How much Carbs did you ingest yesterday? A: 10 grams (that's GRAMS!) Q: What is the typical dose of aspirin? A: 100 mg (that's MilliGRAMS!) Q: How far was that Walk for Cancer? (or any run/walk in the USA - Professional OR amateur) A: 7k (or 10k, etc) Q: Wow - that's a great stereo, Dude! What's the efficiency of that speaker? A: "97 dB @ 1 watt at 1 meter" [Dude] (that's METER) Q: How much Cocaine did they seize in the last drug raid? A: "5 Kilos"! (that's KILOGRAMS!) ALL cameras are 35mm (MILLIMETERS) Super-8 film? 8 MILLIMETERS HI-8 tape? 8 MILLIMETERS That 9mm Pistol pistol [illegally] in your glove box? That's 9 MILLIMETERS Are you a HAM Radio Operator? You choose your band in METERS. Are you a Diver? Your gear is measured in METERS. (Go ahead - look at your waterproof watch - it reads "xx meters"!) All food content is in MILLIGRAMS All prescriptions are in MILLIGRAMS Wine is sold in LITERS Oh, and let's not forget the biggest one: The big, baaaaaad US MILITARY is completely Metric. Go ahead - check it out - ask any Service person. I just have to add: Look up the US definition of "Calorie" - you'll find that it's: "The quantity of thermal energy required to raise one gram of water 1°C at 15°C." That's GRAMS and CELCIUS. Finally,$50 bucks says - when I ask you "what temperature does water begin to boil?" Chances are you'll have to look it up. Most people know where it freezes, but in [the FAR newer] metric system, water freezes at 0 and boils at 100. And in closing, I've longed for this answer: Why (oh, WHY) did the US "shoot a bird" at the King - even going to WAR with him, yet they not only keep his old system of measurement ... the REFUSE to change, and say "Imperial is better!". I just don't GET it. <scratching head> And for a Nation that likes to be "hip", this is certainly confusing! :-)
  4. OK, so - YOU WIN - America is better than Canada. no problem! there was a documented report in US News & World Report where a US Army Colonel ("KER-nul") actually moved to SIBERIA to wed his true love. Does that mean Siberia is better than the US? For HIM it was. I think that we are forgetting the one fact: "Home is where the heart's on fire." There were 10,000 Americans that moved up here to Canada in 2006. Canada was better - for THEM. Maybe there were 5 billion Canadians (yes, I'm exaggerating!) that moved to the USA. then the USA is better - for THEM. In my travels around the world (over 4 years and 22 countries - including East Berlin [before they took the wall down!]), I have met Americans that have moved [permanently] to Ukraine (NOT "THE Ukraine", any more than you call it "THE Russia" or "The Canada"!); Americans that have moved [permanently] to Latin America, and yes, to Russia. Please know this: YOU CANNOT MAKE A STATEMENT THAT A COUNTRY IS GOOD OR BAD - UNTIL YOU HAVE LIVED THERE. I have met MANY, MANY Americans here in Canada who say "I'd NEVER live in the USA again. (This includes ME - and I grew-up there - lived in 12 States over the years!) I find that most Americans tout "We're the BEST - why would I want to go anywhere else?!!" OK, but remember - that's "arrogance" by definition! THAT is why America is hated all over the planet. Remember, ANY Country could have the might of the USA if THEY also went 20 trillion in debt! Besides, if "might means right", then the gangs are all correct, and the law-abiding citizens are wrong! The terrorists are right and peace countries are wrong! Ponder THAT, if you will. And now for the kicker ... if America is so great, why is OUR dollar worth more???!!!! I don't want to be childish .. but I will *anyway*: Naaaah, naaah, naah, NAAAAAH, NAAAAAH!!!! And did you know that over 10% of YOUR oil comes from Alberta, Canada? $100 bucks says you DIDN'T know that. And in closing, how many States border the Pacific Ocean? $50 bucks says you answered "three". Feel free to e-mail me for the correct number: [email protected]
  5. No offense, please, but if you want to see HOMELESS issues - look right there near MANHATTAN - ini the BRONX. Or right across the Intracoastal Waterway from Palm Beach, FL - in West Palm Beach! Shall I mention East LA? West Chicago? Detroit? South Miami? Want me to go on??? Fix it? Naah - we're too busy fixing Iraq. And all the other countries overseas...
  6. The USA had nearly 30,000 muders in 2003, of a population of nearly 300 million. In that same year (Canada's highest homicide year), Canada (with 30 million) had 548 murders. http://www.statcan.ca/Daily/English/040728/d040728a.htm Now, one would *think* that - with a population 1/10 the size of the "good 'ol USA", Canada's murder rate would have been 3,000. Love the USA - that's fine; love Canada - that's fine, as well, but PLEASE, don't be an American and think you're "all that" - that your Country can do no wrong. In Canada, one can say *any* day"Canada sucks!" or "America sucks!", but in the USA, you'll get your butt kicked if you utter the latter. THAT is freedom of speech??? When I was in East Berlin & Russia, they had the same freedom as the USA in many, MANY ways. Some things were more free! One example I *love*: In the USA, you can be a Rapper, and "sing" about killing Police or screwing [White] girls, but you CAN'T tell your Secretary "Hey, you look great today." HELLO????? What's WRONG with this picture???? I'd say "the tail is wagging the dog" in much of the USA. But they STILL "think they're all that". Rule #1: We're NEVER wrong. Rule #2: When we think we're wrong, refer to Rule #1
  7. In 2006, there were over 10,000 Americans that moved up to Canada. Nearly as many in 2007. Many of those going South (to the USA) are "gold diggers" ... or "warm weather diggers". To each, her/his own.
  8. Wow - and I thought *I* was the only one! My wife and I left California and moved up here to Edmonton (North of Calgary, as you well know - but other readers may not. Ha - I surely shouldn't say "Alert, Nunuvut"; I'd loose them all REAL fast!). Not only is it VASTLY better than California in several ways (economy, crime, friendly people - just to name a fraction), it's far better than the USA in a few ways: Socialized Healthcare. I was prepared for bad medical treatment & long waits, but it's turned out to be FAR better than what I was used to - after having lived in 7 States for 40 years!!! And who would have thought - my Wife developed a hernia. We had it looked at, and her operation was 6 weeks later. I had to wait longer than THAT in California, and I *PAID* for it. Here, the operation, as well as ALL of my doctor visits, are free. Makes that 6% GST (Goods & Services tax) *worth* it! And I thought the Winters would be unbearable. They are no different than those I experienced in Connecticut, and Virginia. Colder - sure, but such a low humidity, it feels the same. I'll be a Canadian citizen next year, and I'll be a PROUD one. Goodbye USA - you have SO much to learn!
  9. Good point, but remember 2 things: 1) You cannot simultaneously prepare for peace and war. (Albert Einstein - but what did HE know? :-) 2) There are pros & cons with anything and everything in life. (P. Chapman) Remember, The USA drove the Soviet Union to bankruptcy by the Cold War, so there is a "pro" to your premise. The CON is ... the Soviet Union - with VERY decent people - developed "starvation" because the government went under. Yes, this is "over simplified", I realize. Hard to condense 4 years of College and 2 years of living there in 2 sentences. :-) I've heard it said, when discussing history, "if only they just played a game of chess, or just got along..." Well?? Why don't we??? Or is there always more to it? <pondering>
  10. That is true. but if you are going to stand on the "logic" soapbox, I will kindly remind everyone that there was LOGIC to what Hitler did, and LOGIC to what Saddam Hussein did. You might not *agree* with it, but it WAS logical to the leaders *and* to the general population at that time. So, NOW does that make [bush] right? Something to ponder, I'll say. :-)
  11. Thanks for the support. I needn't respond to a delusional post. Funny how Americans (in all their conceit) have no problem insulting the rest of the world (6 B people), yet they have such a "thin skin" when anyone says even a discouraging word about them. Sort of like when a Military person goes to another Country and fights for them - they are called a TRAITOR to the Americans (and Americans want to KILL them). Yet someone from another Country can join the American forces, and THAT'S ok (and honorable!). Yeah, THAT is logical. Also, funny how 90% of Americans tout religion - you know "Turn the other cheek"; "Vengance is MINE..."; "Love thine enemy as thine self", yet they go to war non-stop. Is my brain fried from too much organic health-food, or is this EXTREMELY hypocritical?? Somebody EXPLAIN this to me. Ha!!
  12. That is a VERY funny "fact". Are you a stand-up Comic?? OK, here's the history: Americans AND Canadians came from the same strands - Natives being overthrown by English. So, YES, our cousins can be found all over North America, as well as Europe. If you believe in Adam & Eve, we are ALL from the same family: Adam & Eve; then Noah (IMAGINE the incest!). If you are an Evolutionist, you know that we are all from tribes** - procreating from within their tribes, and being completely incestual up until the last 2,000 years. (but we ALL know there's still LOTS of incest.) As far as your comment on "how can Canadians hate...", I think you can ask a deeper question: How can AMERICANS hate their own - they murder 1% of their own every year, and they SUE each other if they *dare* offend each other. Yeah, THAT'S "United" and "love". Yep. ** There are only THREE original races of people: Mongoloid, Caucazoid & Negroid.
  13. That's showing great standards - murder, and sadism on top of that. do your friemds know you're sadistic? Then again, most ALL of Military personnel are sadistic. In case you ARE wondering: Sadistic: Deriving pleasure or gratification seeing harm or discomfort to others.
  14. Here in Buffalo, as I said, we almost never get into negative numbers on the F scale. We would be in the negative numbers almost all winter in the C scale. Indeed - you'd be below freezing - as you ARE. And, I guess to be fair to those living in Norway, we should change it to yet another scale, as they are in negative numbers more than 8 months of the year. Again it's not about "being in negative numbers" - it's about water freezing. The use of the decimal in the C scale is hardly useful. Who can feel a half of a degree of anything. I'll send a memo to the US Military and the US Weather Service. It their stupidity, I guess they should have talked to you first about this. Crappy Windors? I have seen Linux and was not impressed. It lacks drivers and software other than a word processor and a spreadsheet. Dos was better. The only thing it might be good for is internet surfing. Wow - I see how little you know about computers, or how little you have used Unix. No worries - keep your Windows and keep playing games. I'll keep using StarOffice on my Solaris (Sparc 20) system. Agreements are made to be broken, Does your spouse know you feel this way? Now that I know you are childish, I'll cease this discussion with you. especially to indians. Ah, I see you are a Racist, as well. Yep, "over and out..."
  15. Say, Yankee, "Canuck" is allowed on this Post? Or is that also a bad word? I am not Canadian (but my Wife is). I am German & Cherokee (you know - the ones you Yankees killed and stole their land from), so let's all ease-up and talk like civil adults. I realize the above statement may have offended some of you, but that's the *point*. If you insult someone, be prepared to be insulted right back. Now, back to being civil, or I'll choose to leave this post (I can hear you all now - Go AHEAD - LEAVE!) Yeah, that's real mature. I see a few replied about NAIT, and how "funny" that is. A) since most of you don't even *know* what NAIT is (without cheating and looking it up quickly), it's best you don't get involved in something where it's too deep for you to swim, but here in Edmonton, it's a known fact: Most NAIT graduates go on to teach American Teachers after their US schooling. Think about it - many of your Doctors and Professors are now coming out of India. And yes, Canada. My wife works at the CEDA Reactor, a chemist group that develops & redevelops (improves) chemicals for everything from cleaning oil refineries to the flu shot you had. The Chemists commonly confer with their fellow NAIT colleagues at NASA, various Universities around the world, and the like. Yes, I'm aware that MIT guys do, too (duuuh!) - I think that's my point: All these affluent universities provide great people around the world, but I think Americans only think AMERICA does. Again, arrogance. I realize I've gone so far off teh subject for those of you without ADD to keep up with, but my use of examples to illustrate my point tends to stray me at times. And note THIS (before I close and send): Do you know anyone *else* that eats a diet so that ADD will be *present* when needed??? In a society where "the norm" dictates "ADD" and "ADHD" to be a BAD thing ... Yeah, I guess that's a bit over the heads of "normal" thinking right now, but many Musicians I know (Huey Lewis, Peter Noone, Mickey Thomas [starship], many others) and Inventors elevate their ADD so they can better multi-task. Hey, *I* play 7 instruments: http://www.partycentral.com/pyro/ OK, bye. :-)
  16. Well, in the C scale, although they report "It's 21 degrees outside today", the banks' thermometers post "21.4", which is more accurate than F scale. OK - but let's not only include Canada. In these days where everyone wants "standardization" (hey, YOU all chose the crappy, more expensive Windows, rather than the far superior, free Linux (ofr any flavor of Unix) - did you not? you wanted to be like everyone else, and like VHS, QWERTY and a host of other "market failures", you all were Lemmings. Again, no "big deal"- it's just that, if you want to be like everyone else, yet DON'T want to be like everyone else, that's an interesting point to ponder, that's all. Sort of lends itself to "The Arrogant American" syndrome. "We're the best, and we're always right. when we're wrong, refer to rule #1." To reply to the 1st statement, indeed, measurements in one country hardly affect the rest of the world, but when those countries PLEDGE to follow a standard of measurements, yet never follow that pledge, that's a breach of their word. but then, the USA has broken nearly 3,000 of the treaties it has signed, so I guess they're used to breaking their word. (NOTE: this is not to start a "fight" - it's just stating a fact. Sorry if it stepped on easily offended toes.) Sorry - I didn't know that. Funny, though - it seems that just the day after I posted this, all these replies flooded-in to this "dormant/old" post. Interesting that it happened. You mean on THIS post? Or in general? If on this post, I do apologize. If in general, then I think it's hilarious that we can freely talk about murder, yet not "the N word". Talk about mixed-up priorities, huh? Besides, it has been said that "we have worse things in our MOUTHS than we have in our HANDS." NOTE: Please know that I am not an "intense" person - I speak very calmly, but I use ALL CAPS because I don't yet know how to use BOLD on these postings. I'm more of a public speaker, not a "blogger". Thanks for understanding, and my apologies for not making that clear sooner.
  17. I always assumed that Canada uses a totally different language closer to Sanskrit or Swahili. Yes - and we Canadians live in Igloos, use dogsleds, and it's frozen year-round, ey? Well, they don't teach this in American Schools, but... Although an Igloo is actually a temporary hunting shelter - VERY sturdy. The Unuit (you call them "Eskimos", but that's a derogatory word - like "Nigger") build them when hunting on ice, but the rest of Canada (BC, Alberta, Manitoba, etc) began using GSM mobile phones wen the USA was using the ancient TDMA network. NAIT (our version of MIT) sends Teachers down to the USA to teach *your* technicians their trades. No lie! Although the C temp scale (stands for "Celcius", as "Centigrade" is way outdated) is used up here, most Americans think that - because it's usually below 40 here (40 is equal to 104º F), they think it is 40 F (pretty chilly!) Remember, Fahrenheit was invented in 1714 (by a German) - based on SALT water freezing - and boiling - at 1,272 ft. It has been argued that Daniel Gabriel Fahrenheit picked his temperature scale by making 0 degrees the coldest outdoor temperature he could find in his town, and making 100 degrees the temperature of his own body. Yeah - let's all use THAT scale in modern 21st century!! I'll use that, and my TRS-80 computer. Celcius was invented by Anders Celsius, a Swedish astronomer, used the freezing point of fresh water at sea level as 0 and the boiling point as 100. For a long time, the Celsius scale was called "centigrade." The Greek prefix "centi" means one-hundredth and each degree Celsius is one-hundredth of the way between the temperatures of freezing and boiling for water. ANYway, there's the "Swahili" Canadians speak. :-)
  18. The USA signed a treaty* - promising that they would be COMPLETELY metric by 1985**. One of over 3,000 treaties that America signed, yet didn't live up to. Now, America is holding-up the WORLD with it's Imperial"feet & inches", while the rest of the planet is metric. * the treaty was the Metric Conversion Act of 1975, calling for voluntary conversion. (A 10-year deadline was included in the original bill, but the USA keeps amending it for themselves.) ** Although the use of metric measurement standards in the United States has been authorized by law since 1866 (Act of July 28, 1866), this Nation today is the only industrially developed nation which has not established a national policy of committing itself and taking steps to facilitate conversion to the metric system. Speaking of the metric system, and how "BAD" it is, when you ask ANY American about: Q: What size engine does your car have in it? A: 2.4 (that's LITERS) Q: What about your motorcycle? A: It's a 750 (that's cc - Cubic CENTIMETERS) Q: How much Carbs did you ingest yesterday? A: 10 grams (that's GRAMS) Q: What is the typical dose of aspirin? A: 100 mg (that's MilliGRAMS) Q: How much Cocaine did they seize in the last drug raid? A: "Mondo Kilos"! (that's KILOGRAMS) Let's not forget that ALL Professional cameras are 35mm (MILLIMETERS) Super-8 film? 8 MILLIMETERS HI-8 tape? 8 MILLIMETERS That 9mm Pistol pistol [illegally] in your glove box? That's 9 MILLIMETERS All food content is in MILLIGRAMS All prescriptions are in MILLIGRAMS Oh, and let's not forget the biggest one: The big, baaaaaad US MILITARY is completely Metric. Go ahead - check it out - ask any service person. I just *have* to add: Look up the US definition of "Calorie" - you'll find that it's: "The quantity of thermal energy required to raise one gram of water 1°C at 15°C." That's GRAMS and CELCIUS. And the real topper - Americans EMBRACE computer trend of Mega, Giga, Terra... those are METRIC. So you see - the USA uses the metric system! It is also noteworthy to add: Americans changed the driving side of the coach (horse & buggy) to the LEFT side - to rebel against England's RIGHT-side driver. Funny - they didn't rebel against the king's unit of measure!!
