  1. Well look at that, I am wrong and you are right... but how are we ignorant? You went through a dozen or more pieces of "evidence" to support your argument until you finally found one to support it.

Those who tend to be arrogant consider everyone else to be ignorant. Quite common actually.

  2. And what about the accused???

Try using your argument on Guy Paul Morin.

    WWWTT

<sigh>. Go back and read my original post for the answer to this. Have you ever considered becoming a defense lawyer? With any luck your "grievance" attitude that has been shown in here towards the RCMP would help many criminals get lighter sentences for atrocities they commit.

  3. One good aspect of having him captured alive is that we might get an insight into the thought processes that caused him to do this. I hope that information gets out before jailhouse justice is applied by his fellow incarcerated buddies.

Unfortunately, his jailhouse buddies will probably treat him like a hero. Not much love for the law and particularly police officers in the pen.

  4. He wasn't shot... he gave up. But if he was still armed and was a danger in any way, shooting him would have been fully justified and not many people would have shed a tear.

I don't advocate shooting someone if they have given up...

Your silly USA comment is completely asinine and has nothing to do with the topic at hand.

I don't completely agree with this. I don't think he should have been shot if he was unarmed and giving up... although I would understand why it happened, if it did. It would be tough not to pull the trigger when the guy who just killed three of your friends/colleagues comes wandering out of the bushes...

Good post. Holding back what they wanted to do is a true testament to the training and professionalism of the RCMP officers who arrested him.

  5. Not my fault you don't understand that the justice system in Canada is designed for trials and hearings, dismissing cases and/or finding convictions and applying appropriate sentencing.

...and all of this results in what?? Protecting the public. Give your head a shake and admit when you post something that is ridiculous.

  6. Don't worry, the US priority will be to make sure that it's not seen as a person with a conscience not being able to continue to fight against people in their own country that are innocent of crimes. The US must always try to maintain the façade of the moral high ground.

In actual practice for the past 65-70 years, they haven't been on moral high ground. We know now that the Iraq war was a phony trumped up cause for oil and we know now that the Russians never were coming.

Hey Monty, maybe you and Bergdahl should become pen pals when he gets convicted of being a deserter and a coward. Sounds like you two would have been good buddies and probably deserted with him if you were there.

  7. It's not the job of the justice system to protect victims.

    WWWTT

I am not sure you realize just how silly your above statement reads. Read it again and think about it some more. Last time I checked the justice system is in place to impose laws that do protect everyone which includes the victims and unfortunately even perpetrators like this sad excuse for a human being. If it were not for the justice system, I am sure this guy would have gotten a bullet to the head the moment they spotted him crawl out of the brush.

  8. Pay off Aboriginals? It's not that new really. It's been going on since Cabot and Cartier landed.. It worked well on many occasions and in the colonists' favor back then but it doesn't work now unfortunately. It only seems to be making matters worse and is a clear waste of real taxpayer's money. The courts and politicians need to grow a pair and start treating First Nations as equals under the law and build more prisons with the money saved if that is what it will take. Either way, enough is enough.,

  9. Not too sure why America would do this. Obama has been the president of peace. I don't think he would want to rattle China's feathers. Maybe Obama is trying to put America back on the map after Bush hurt that nation's legacy. Japan sits idle. What if Japan produces nuclear weapons. You don't want to mess with the Chinese. China will be the lone world's superpower soon.,

    http://news.nationalpost.com/2013/11/26/u-s-sent-b-52s-over-disputed-china-air-zone-u-s-defence-official-says/

Maybe Obama is looking for a summer home when his term is over in 2016. :P Seriously though, you may be right but it won't last if they get there at all. The Chinese are way to corrupt to get there. Not to mention their GDP is full of hot air as well.. http://www.zerohedge.com/news/2013-08-13/chinas-1-trillion-gdp-lie. Since history generally repeats itself, if there's going to be another real superpower someday it'll come out of Europe as they realize the tragic results of socialism. Ironically, us North Americans want to repeat the lessons Europe is already learning and trying to dig out of.

  10. The mistake the GOP are making is NOT allowing Obama to sink with his train wreck of Obamacare. If they did this and let Americans see that Obamacare is not what they expected, the GOP may have a slight shot at both houses and maybe even the presidency. However, the more the GOP try and stop Obamacare, the more years of Democratic economic policy Americans will elect in all houses and in the oval office further weakening what was once a great nation. The US has become the laughing stock of the rest of the world because of idiots on both sides of the aisle and particularly a weak President that is incapable of solving anything or uniting anyone.

Most Liberals see a utopian world under their ideology but IMO when the smoke clears history will show that it was these liberal policies and their

incompetent President that was in power when the back of the US economic and military might finally broke apart. These problems of division and continuing shift to the left in the US will spell bad times ahead for all Americans and the rest of the world and further diminish the US and the West in general. Ultimately it will pave the way for a much lower standard of living for everyone in the West and a much more dangerous world for our children to grow up in. Franky, there's not much the GOP can do to stop where the US is headed anymore since the left is is obviously where the voters want their country to head because they re-elected him and he is delivering exactly what he said he would. I see little reason for that voting trend to change unless there is some major worldwide event that occurs to scare voters in the US back to the GOP.

  11. She provides at least partial balance to the gaggle of far Right Wing loons in American politics. There is absolutely no Left Wing equivalent to the band of idiots that have taken the GOP hostage though.

Nonsense and clearly biased statement...Reid, Pelosi, Barney Frank are just a few equivalent over on the Dem's side. If you don't thinks there's loons on both sides responsible for the complete division down there, you're dreaming.

  12. No. We don't need more intoxicated doped up paranoid people driving around on the roads. Studies have shown that Marijuana increases your chances of lung cancer almost to the same degree as tobacco. (see link below)

    http://news.nationalpost.com/2013/08/01/heavy-marijuana-smoking-may-double-risk-of-lung-cancer-canadian-study-finds/

As long as our health system is public - and my tax dollars are paying for it there is no way I would support it being legalized.

While I agree we don't need more intoxicated people on the road, cannabis smokers are driving now on the roads regardless of legality. I said this before that I agree with legalization but would like to see it go hand in hand with an equivocal roadside test as a breathalyzer. The only thing that bothers me are that many of the pro-legalization folks put legalization above having the same safeguards we have to convict drunk drivers just because of their ideology.

BTW, unlike tobacco cannabis alone does not have the same cancer rate as smoking tobacco by a long shot so get your facts straight.

    http://patients4medicalmarijuana.wordpress.com/2009/08/29/smoking-marijuana-does-not-cause-lung-cancer/

This and many other studies prove it, yet many anti-cannabis folks still ignore the facts to push their own antiquated agendas.

  13. I know very well someone who has consumed weed every day for 30 years. He is in peak health, has no negative side effects, and is a productive member of society. He is "mentally" addicted in that it gives pleasure and he seeks that pleasure because he enjoys it. But when he has abstained for an extended period of time (usually because of the inability to access it while out of country), he has experienced absolutely no withdrawal symptoms or negative physical or emotional effects.

So you don't know of what you speak and no amount of reasoning will ever change your mind.

Other than the medicinal use of cannabis and putting the law aside, what is the benefit of yet another mind altering drug going to be for society? None of us pro weeders have a definitive answer on this. The truth is that the only positive is the usual selfish excuse for those who drink or smoke: Escape from reality and self mental therapy. With that said, since booze is legal then why not allow another substance that has no real benefit to society legal? It would be hypocritical for us to deny weed the same status regardless of its benefit..

Either ban both harmful substances or legalize them both..

  14. Shady, you're wasting your time with anyone who believes the spin from the left that the IRS did absolutely nothing out of the ordinary. Obama or any government agency under his administration could ever be responsible for anything like this in the eyes of those that adore him and his sideshow of an administration. So no matter how much evidence there is that there was IRS targeting, there's no convincing them that there was any wrong doing hence making your efforts very futile.

  15. It's quite simple. Clinton will win in 2016 why? For the exact same reasons Obama won in 2012:

    1. Media bias

    2. Women's vote

    3. Minority vote

    4. Youth vote

    5. General voter shift to the left

Unless the Reps can produce a center or very close to center candidate, they have no hope in hell against Hillary or any Democrat. The US public has shifted to the left and will continue to do so unless a very serious crisis either nationally or internationally occurs to change that course. Americans voted for 4 more years of a man who already showed poor leadership and incompetence and are reaping the consequences of that decision. I also believe they may just be stupid enough continue to vote Democrat and get more of the same with Hillary. Sad to see a great nation like the US decline so quickly..

  16. Uh...one ounce of weed is about the same size as 13 ounces of spirits. Alcohol is certainly portable enough to sell.

You're forgetting that weed is not as portable as one might think. Booze in a bottle doesn't stink like some weed does. Even when sealed, small amounts would stink a room up. An ounce even more so. Of course, hash is not considered here as it is extremely portable.

  17. There is a well known correlation between religious fervor and poverty. As Muslims become more affluent, religion will become less important. If they DO NOT become more affluent relative to the rest of the world, then of course, anything can happen and DoP can gloat in his successful predictions.

But that, again, is not unique to Muslims.

If the North American capitalist economy continues the way it has.... and the rich-poor division keeps growing.... then the first jihad that we may see will not be by Muslims. It will be poverty-level wage-earners burning down the executives and politicians gated communities.

    ...

Indeed. I agree that it is not unique to Muslims. At this point in time, just more globally predominant and perhaps correlated with poverty but don't forget propaganda from religious and political dictators in control of prominently Islamic nations. You are absolutely right, class warfare is also likely just around the corner in North America to add to all the existing chaos as a result of poverty, poor leadership and yes propaganda spun by the media and special interest groups. That's a whole other thread I am sure. Thanks for the reply.

  18. "Anything can happen" also includes the possibility that nothing happens. A bit broad, no? Can you be a little more specific as to what you think could happen?

You make the claim, you back it up. Not doing your legwork.

And what is the point you are supposed to be making here? We aren't talking about the respective levels of religious devotion, but your claim that "Muslims are much more likely to put Allah before country and countrymen/women" than others.

Obviously you just don't get it. Thanks for replying though.

  19. After Kerry's statement today it would be shameful for any country to ignore this gassing of women and children. Just go in with a concise entrance and exit plan which Bush failed at. Assad and his henchmen need to be removed from this world for this atrocity.

  20. Except we have ample safeguards in place to prevent these types of things occurring.

    Cite?

Safeguards are only as good as those safeguarding them. In 2-3 generations from now anything can happen so why is it so outlandish for some to think that it can never happen?

Also, Cite what? As soon as you can site the contrary to that statement about Islamic devotion compared to Christian devotion then we'll have a discussion. Muslims are indeed more literalistic, it doesn't take a rocket scientist to see that. Burn a copy of the Bible today and video tape it, and post it on Youtube and then do that to the Quran and then come back and we'll talk..
