I'm sure Craig will have his usual articulate response to your claim, udawg, but in the meantime you'll have to settle for Morgan. France is putting air marshalls on board its int'l flights to the USA because if it didn't, French planes would not be allowed to fly into US airspace. So France is acting out of SELF INTEREST not because of a new found French co-operative spirit, as you suggest. Also, France has to make nice with the USA post haste for lack of proper airline security oversight by the French gov't for the past 2 years. America could have suffered another 9/11 due to France's negligence. Read this article from the Guardian, which usually spouts off blame America garbage and even the Guardian's reporter seems to be shocked at France's bumbling incompetence in regards to fighting terrorism. After 9/11, the French talked about fighting terrorism on aircraft but didn't do the walk...it was yawn, comme ce comme ca business as usual until the US got in the French gov't's faces and said France could LOSE MONEY if they didn't take airline security seriously. Killer and worse were serving as Air France guards, Dec.31/03, The Guardian

Here's the Edmonton Journal's article about latest BSE news developments as linked from NealeNews. It's obvious that Paulie Wally Martin wants the US partial ban on Canadian cattle lifted in January, come hell or high water. Now we know why Canadian officials did not bother to track other farms which may have used the same feed mill as the farm which had the first case of BSE in May. BSE infected cow may be linked to Edmonton feed plant Dec. 31/03 National Post

1. Errr...didn't Israel WIN the Golan Heights in 1967, after it successfully defended itself from aggression of three Arab countries who lost the war in only 6 days? Then when Israel was attacked again by Syria and Egypt in 1973 in the Yom Kippur War, Israel fought valiantly against both Egypt and Syria. Syria did not only not re-cature the Golan Heights but it almost lost Damascus to Israel. Tiny Israel managed to push Syrian forces back to within 40 miles of Damascus in approximately 3 weeks. Syria doesn't know the meaning of peace. As far as I am concerned, Israel can put as many settlers as it wants on land that it won fair and square from Syria. Israel needs to position enough of its own warm bodies in the Golan Heights before it goes back to the table with Syria. In fact, the only way Syria might "negotiate" peace is when it is faced with large numbers of armed Israeli settlers. 2. What peaceful steps has Syria taken lately to EARN CONCESSIONS OR TRUST from Israel? Ever hear of the Islamic Jihad or Hezbollah? Does Al Jazeera ever mention that Happy Gang when it talks about Syria? Didn't think so.

Brainiac, 1. Here's the link to the "spontaneous" explanation Canadian authorities gave for the first case of BSE that was discovered in Alberta: National Research Council paper on "spontaneous" case of BSE in Alberta By "latter" I am taking this to mean "novel germline mutation." One needs a paid subscription to read the full text article. 2. Btw, there is a potential problem on the horizon that has been touched on by researchers... that being BSE being spread to humans and then humans spreading the human variation to other humans in the blood supply. It's the long incubation period in cows and the subsequent longer incubation period in humans that is scary. Similar to HIV?? Currently, the blood supply is not being tested for Creutzfeldt–Jakob/BSE. Yet the NRC researchers state: Worrisome, indeed. 3. Look we're talking "likely" cause here not "definitive" cause. And yes, I think fault finding is important because if it's Canada's fault, it better start doing something more than smirking and blaming America, and we know Paulie Wallie and the liberals would use this as their typical fallback position and do nothing to protect the Alberta beef industry and protect Canadians' health unless their faces are shoved into "poo" that is identified as their RESPONSIBILITY. While the PMO and LPOC has been wasting time wringing their hands and devoting energies to pass same sex marriage and pot decriminalization bills, it has carefully side stepped issues that needed $ and their focused attention since May. IMO, the Bush Admin. has shown itself to act more quickly and decisively when a problem has been identified to them. This is not the case with the Chretien/Martin Admin. unless they are faced with zero escape hatches/ ballout possibilities.

Since we've already gone off topic a bit, my comments will be in keeping with the "off-shoots." I personally am sick to death of hearing about the so-called evils that America brought to Iraq and the ME and having to defend those accusations by pointing out that countries like Russia, France, Germany were just as bad. My question is where are ME'ers themselves in this equation of contributions of negatives to their own environment? How come we never look more closely at choices made, events as a function of self-determination? Even now, as "evil" as America and the West are thought to be by posters like SirRiff , the fact of the matter is that the only successful ME'ers I see or hear about are those who have immigrated to the West and have partaken in the largesse offered by the West and America specifically. Even now with Iran's earthquake, emergency aid is being offered in trickles by the ME brethern, which seems mighty strange to me. The biggest donor of aid, ironically, is Black Satan, and although the Iranian government is quick to take the US aid, it states in no uncertain terms that Iran still hates the US. What's tragic to me is that the Iranian government pointedly rejected aid from Israel. So even in an emergency, the self-destructive hatred for Jews and infidels comes out loud and clear. Here's the point I'm trying to make: Is the ME in the sorry state it's in because of external "evils" or because of an enduring self-destructive "evil" within that sabotages progress, success, happiness for its people? I think Iraq will be an interesting test case. The US has cleared the way for the Iraqi people to seize a decent future. There's no more ruthless Saddam and his Republican Guard to hold them back. But yet Al Feyadeen/ Baathist terrorists are allowed to live in Iraq's midst with impunity and terrorists from other ME countries are allowed to join the home grown terrorist ranks without fear of being exposed as being "newcomers." A car bomber just blew up Iraqis in Baghdad celebrating the New Year. Did no one know this potential terrorist was living in their neighbourhood? Yesterday 2 Iraqi policemen were shot. Did no one see the faces of the assailants? It's the Iraqi people who are now being "tested" from my point of view. The slate is clear. If Iraqis want to join the 21st century and create a life for themselves and their children and grandchildren, they need to seize the possibilities offered to them. If Iraq fails in the future, it's not America or Germany, Russia, France, NGO's who are to be blamed. It's the Iraqis themselves. It's the neighbouring ME countries who support terrorists to go into Iraq and make mischief. It's the Muslims living in the West who sit on their westernized butts and bray and nay but do nothing constructive to urge the Iraqis to rise up and seize the future and condemn the opportunistic terrorists and radical Islamics that want to keep Iraq in the past. These will be the people who will be at fault. Let's hope it does not come to pass that the new Iraq fails.

Brainiac, You're missing the point of my answers to your initial questions on why it's likely that Canada is to blame for this particular instance of a mad cow infected animal. You said: 1. The Washington farmer has found the paperwork which suggests that this is a Canadian born Canada[1997] which was sold to him in 2001. It crossed the border when it was 4 years old. 2. Given that BSE has a long incubation period before it exhibits BSE, the cow was infected with BSE in Canada BEFORE it crossed the border to the USA . From 2001 to 2003 is not long enough to show symptoms of "end stage" BSE. The cow under discussion was totally immobilized from what I hear. It could not even walk to the milking machines. It was probably showing initial symptoms a year ago or so. 3. Pointing out that the USA has its own problems with enforcing/monitoring the feed ban is a moot point for the case under discussion in this thread. If this cow is indeed the 1997 Alberta born cow the Washington state farmer bought in 2001, the cow was infected pre-2001 in Canada and it's the lack of stringent enforcement/monitoring of the feed ban in Canada that will be the contributing cause. The geniuses in Ottawa will not be able to pull off a second "spontaneous" incident tall tale this time round. The chance for "spontaneous" BSE infecting cattle is next to nil anyways. Why Canadians bought that questionable conclusion from Ottawa the first time round is amazing to me. But 2 "spontaneous" cases of BSE in less than a year will not be easy to promote as a believable story. Please try to focus on this specific case. 4. I find the ban on feed to be a stupid law anyways. On smaller farms, there are often cattle, pigs, chickens, sheep all co-existing in the same general environment. To say farmers can't feed certain food to cows but it's okay to feed the stuff to the other animals misses seeing "the big picture." There are still chances for the banned feed to be eaten by cattle due human error, unfortunate circumstances like broken bags of feed co-mingling, etc. etc. Unbeknown to the Cdn. and US officials, farm animals cannot read. Farm animals will eat what's accessible to them, banned or not. The banned feed should be banned from production. Period. Burn the left over cow innards. Don't recycle it into "food" for any animal.

Your Choices For Canadians Of The Year
Morgan replied to maplesyrup's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
1. Dr.Paul Gross, oncologist at Princess Elizabeth Hospital, whose clinical research led to a new drug treatment approach for post menopausal women with aggressive breast cancer. Dr. Gross has extended the lives of many women by demonstrating the dramatic life saving results of using Femora after a course of Tamoxifan. He stopped his study early, so that the women in the control group could take advantage of Femora. 2. Stephen Harper for his dogged pursuit of uniting the CA and PC parties though the odds were against this happening. Canadians now have a viable 2nd party choice to vote for so as to rescue Canada's future. -
Khadr Robbed Of His Cdn. Rights By The Us?
Morgan replied to Morgan's topic in Canada / United States Relations
Via NealeNews and in the National Post today: Cdn. and US intelligence officials 100% sure Arar trained at Al Qaeda camp, Nat'l Post Dec. 30/03 a. Cdn. officials are finally admitting that they are 100% sure that Mr. Arar is an Al Qaeda operative. b. The USA did not deport Arar to Canada because Canada would not take Mr. Arar into custody. Evidently the US had sufficient concerns about Mr. Arar's future plans that they decided "watching" him was a "been there, done that" ineffective protective measure. c. It would appear that the USA had more worries about Ottawa being the likely terrorist target than the RCMP did. Hmmm...very interesting... d. Blowhard Paul Martin has had a minute-by-minute debriefing on the dossier on Mr. Arar and yet he plays dumb to the media and pledges he will get to the bottom of the matter. Duh. Paul Martin knows the matter inside out, so what's with the silly anti-American posturing? e. Kerry Pither, spokesman for the Arar family, accused the Canadian and American intelligence agencies of "smear" tactics against Mr. Arar. Like the intelligence agencies of 2 countries have nothing better to do with their time than to pick on Mr. Arar... out of all the Muslim immigrants living in Canada and the USA, his name was singled out. Call me cynical but I have a very hard time believing this persecution theory. It does not make any sense whatsoever. f. Mr. Arar says he confessed to Syrian authorities due to torture, but I've seen no medical evidence to support Mr. Arar's allegations of torture. In fact, in a picture I saw of him and his wife in Macleans magazine a month ago or so after his release, he is either very photogenic or he regained the picture of health/ post torture look very quickly. -
Flea, Thank you for supplying more chuckles for me by way of the unsubstantiated "observations" gleaned by Bolshevik Broadcasting Corporation, evil twin to Canadian Pravda Corporation. And speaking of BBC's "objectivity", or lack thereof, BBC is the network whose bosses require their reporters not to refer to Uncle Saddam in anyway that might hurt his sensitive feelings. He's Mr. President not Baghdad Butcher to BBC. Nice source, Fleabag. Listen up. Here's a proper report from the Stockholm Peace Research Institute, which actually employs scientists not Affirmative Action graduates from Carleton U. Fact Sheet Chemical Warfare in Iran-Iraq War. Here's the summary. It looks like the USSR was the main supplier of the chemicals with a little help from Germany, perhaps, or some of it could have been self generated by Saddam's Dr. Germ and company. Surprise, surprise Uncle Saddam fans. That psychopath had in-house chemical warfare development capabilities even way back then. Alas, Fleabag, the Stockholm Research Institute ELIMINATED the USA as being the source of chemical weaponry in the Iran-Iraq War and even remarked that there have been erroneous rumors floating about[bBC/CBC/CNN]about who actually supplied chemicals to Saddam. Here are some other url's for your edification: Germany's leading role in arming Iraq, Asia Times, Feb. 5/03 Michael Gove, Times on Line, April 08/03, Stockholm Research Institute's Stats on Iraq's Weaponry 2. logical1, I am optimistic that Bush will stay firm and help the Iraqis offer a quick trial followed by death penalty...beheading, stoning, whatever the penalty is works for me. In my weaker moments I worry that Bush may knuckle under to the whining of Kofi Annan, Powell, Shroeder, Chirac, and end up handing the Butcher to the International Court. That would make things very dangerous for the GI's in Iraq as the Iraqis would take out their anger on them. I hope Bush stays firm in his resolve to have Saddam tried in Iraq. I agree with you that the line about "Islam is a religion of peace" is starting to sound old. It especially is painful to swallow when you see pix on 10 o'clock news of new terrorists caught and they all have similar "addresses" and similar last names. Even Arafat apologist, Neil MacDonald[CBC] said that this "politically correct" mantra is not very realistic. A surprising statement from Neil Macdonald about Islam August 28/03. OBL himself makes it quite clear that this is a Holy War and that his enemies are "infidels", so it's unclear to me why the White house is loathe to properly identify the war and the enemy. Continually describing the enemy as "evil doers" [huh?]and the war is against something nebulous called "terrorism" seems rather lame to me. We are all grown ups. President Bush is as good as it gets for being strong against terrorism. The Democrat candidates in waiting are all various colours of jello. The EU leaders as we know are hopeless for the most part, if not terrorist enablers. Now China might be strong against terrorists. In fact, we don't hear too much about terrorists making threats against China on Al Jazeera. Does Al Jazeera even have broadcasting rights in China? Doubters. Somehow I don't think China would deal with terrorist "suspects" a la Geneva Convention guidelines. I agree that in hindsight it's too bad that Uncle Saddam had to be taken alive. Fyi, Iraqis have proper legal codes on the books. These laws have not been revised since the 1960's, but heck Saddam's case is pretty straight forward... being a mass murdering genocidal maniac that he is... so I think vintage 1960 laws would work just fine. Seriously though, if you want more info on Iraqi law and what Saddam could be charged with, you might want to do a keyword search in the archives of the following law professor run news blog site. It's called Volokh Conspiracy. They probably discussed the Iraqi laws and prosecution possibilities after Saddam was captured. Good riddance to bad rubbish. I hope the trial doesn't last too many days. http://volokh.com/

Fleabag, 1. You say that Canada can't hold a candle to the USA re: supporting brutal dictators??? ha, ha That's one of your funniest statements I've read so far, and let's be honest, flea, you've said some whoppers... Pay attention. Canada under the stewardship of the good socialist, Jean Chretien, now genuflects to the UN everyday. In case you didn't hear this piece of information before, flea, 2/3 of the UN's general membership is comprised of brutal dictators. If making nice with UN slimeballs on a daily basis is not unflinching support of iron fisted thugs and autocrats, I don't know what is. The under secretary to Kofi Annan is none other than Third World Philosopher King, a.k.a. Maurice Strong. Where do many brutal dictators build their palaces and starve their people but in the Third World, specifically Africa. And Maurice Strong is Paul Martin's mentor. Last I heard Paul Martin has parked his butt in the PMO. Who do you think spoke up on Mugabe's behalf at a Commonwealth Conference a few years ago - "just give him one more chance, puhleaze" - but Jean Chretien. Who sent big bucks annually to that Communist thug in Cuba but Jean Chretien? Who was busting his buns to save Saddam's brutal rule just a few months ago but Jean Chretien? Who hustled his corrupt socialist bottom to N.Korea to stroke Kim Jung Il's sad little ego this past year when Bush cut off aid but Maurice Strong? Canada should hang its head in shame, not the USA. At least the USA tries to do something about past errors in judgement, but not Canada. No way...its leaders have the audacity to feel smug about themselves. 2. You said: Oh, that makes you pure as driven snow does it? "Not anti-Jew, just anti-Zionist." Oh yes...and maybe...not anti-Israel, just anti-Sharon, Israel's duly elected PM. Not anti-suicide bombers, just anti-Mossad that force suicide bombers to blow up civilians when they run out of rocks. Not anti-Israel, just anti- O.T. that gives Jews some credence to exist as a state in the Holy Land. Not anti-Jew just pro-Uncle Arafat. Not anti-Jews, just anti-settlers who happen to live on land won as the fruits of war. You don't want history to play any part in nationhood. No siree. Just contemporary fair division by those nice upstanding thugs of the UN. In fact, let's just throw traditional religions out the window and declare Maurice Strong and Kofi Annan as our New Age Gods. I get it. You are very clear.

Brainiac said: Mr. Vanclief mis-spoke... slightly...He should have said that though the ban was introduced in 1997, routine monitoring of compliance of the food ban by the Canadian Food Agency inspectors was not implemented until 1999.
-
Brainiac said: a. Feed bans were implemented in the USA in 1997, whereas Canada did not implement the same feed bans until 1999. Mad-cow in Canada just a matter of time Globe and Mail July 30, 2003 2. It appears that the Washington state BSE infected cow was born in Alberta in April 1997, before the feed ban was implemented, and only came to Washington in 2001. BSE has an incubation period of several years so the cow was infected before it crossed the border. USDA resolves dispute about age of infected cow, CTV.ca ,Dec.29/03 3. a) Canadians should not be giggling and rooting for financial losses to befall the "Bush empire." They should worry that the US will not lift its partial ban of cross border beef trade with Alberta, which was to have come about early 2004, which will cause Canada's "Golden Goose"[ie. Alberta] to face continued financial losses in 2004 and not be able to pony up golden egg transfers to the 8 have-not provinces. Canadians should worry that there are more BSE infected cattle in the food chain than the single one reported in Alberta this spring, who contracted BSE "spontaneously" according to the geniuses in Ottawa. Mad cow disease in cattle has an incubation period of approx. 5 years, whereas in humans it doesn't show itself for approx. 10 years. Dum-tee-dum dum...

Morgan replied to Craig Read's topic in Canada / United States Relations
ModerateCentrist: 1. Your Coulter quote was incomplete.Per a 02/02 Alan Colmes interview with Coulter on Hannity & Colmes: That is not hate speech. This is a legal opinion about the death penalty being a deterrent factor against treason, given, no less, by a constitutional lawyer[ie. Coulter]. I'm not sure if you know the story behind the John Walker case. That Marin County airhead committed treason. He should have been given the death penalty. That's the penalty in the USA, btw, for treason. Walker joined the Taliban. He took up arms against America. That worthless piece of traitorous crap admitted to being trained by terrorists. Walker actually was in a camp that OBL visited, and more importantly, he was found but a few feet away from where a young CIA officer[ a family man with young children and a new baby] was murdered in cold blood. Many Americans were shocked that Walker was not put to death. If you still don't "get" Coulter's comments, let me explain them to you more fully. She's saying that the left, in particular college leftists, are so far out there against America with their seditious comments[de Genova is a prime example] that what keeps them from crossing the line into treasonous action is the death penalty. If the government does not implement the death penalty for treason, then there's nothing that will keep demented leftists from crossing the line. Her comments are common sense. Also, Professor de Genova's comments are not "bizarre."They are seditious, pure and simple. He should have been canned from his job and he should have been put in jail after being canned. De Genova's dispicable remarks were made on a college campus to college students when his country was at war. His comments represented "aid and comfort" to the enemy. It was common knowledge at this point that Saddam ordered thousands of copies of Blackhawk Down and had his military and Al Feyedeen watch that video OVER AND OVER AGAIN. Then the good professor throws his lot in with Saddam and uses the power of his bully pulpit to persuade students to think like he does. And fyi, I think "hate speech" is a nonsensical term that flies in the face of living in a free world. There's free speech and there's seditious speech. Hate speech is anything the liberals don't like, anything that "offends" their inner sensitive UN guided souls and now has been made into a crime. How pathetic. Parents can't raise their children to believe homosexuality is immoral because that represents "hate speech." But Professor de Genova can be a cheerleeder for Al feyadeen to kill American GI's in a monstrous fashion and that's "free speech." But getting back to Coulter . Her only crime is that she says things that the left find offensive. Tough beans. De Genova speaks seditiously and should be jailed. Johnny Walker acted treasonously and he should have paid the ultimate consequence. 2. CBC is a third rate broadcasting system run by third rate minds. That you can't see a state run broadcasting system being an offensive symbol of totalitarianism in a supposedly first world democracy is beyond my comprehension. 3. I've tried to be "centrist" Mod and you know what...whenever I get into conversation or read the words of left wing "thinkers"[misnomer], I always kick myself for wasting valuable time. Whereas I may not agree with all the conservative positions, I at least respect those positions because they are not intellectually dishonest nor are they emotionally shallow as are left wing positions. Your "right wing" watch is a perfect example. Compare the writing on that site to Media Research Center. No comparison. The news blogs of the left vs the right show similar quality differences. If you are ruled by intellect and not by emotional hooey, the arguments/opinions of the right are the only ones that make sense.- 41 replies

Maplesyrup, I posted earlier that the USDA is conducting DNA tests ...isn't that what you want? Why the ongoing anti-American rant? As for Dean - he's a clown. Who cares what he says except for his wife and mother? Dean is fast becoming the laughing stock of the USA. Pointing the finger at Bush for agricultural mis-steps[duh...Dr. Dean...err president Bush is in a war, so he's a bit pre-occupied] isn't going to get him much traction except maybe with CBC'er news viewers who need their nightly shot of anti-Americanism. Dean's got major problems with his mouth and the words that frequently come out to bite him... Dean mis-speaks AGAIN ...like Confederate flags and pickup trucks wasn't bad enough And instead of getting worked up about the USA, shouldn't you be slightly worried that "mad cow" disease is still in the Canadian food chain???

ModerateCentrist, It's become obvious to me that you don't like Coulter, Limbaugh, FOX News because they represent conservative viewpoints. Period. It has nothing to do do with whether or not their points of view are valid or not. It's that they're conservative and you don't like that mindset. You wish that Limbaugh and Coulter have a negative effect on the general public , but you're wrong. They challenge the re-hashed liberal mantras of snot nosed left wing twits like Peter Jennings;they poke holes in lies of the NYT and LAT[and yes, Virginia, the left lie like rugs]; they energize voters to feel their votes count and that a socialist buffoon like "Red" Davis can be booted out of office. It's FOX News channel that has reminded Americans that is okay to be patriotic and to cheer for American GI's in a war. CBC is a third rate broadcasting system. The CRTC has to protect its pathetic sagging ratings from totally tanking by not allowing FOX News to be broadcast in Canada. How do you like living in a totalitarian run country? You want to know what I think is an example of "hate speech?"[a left wing term that I personally can only sneer at most of the time]... Listen up. Nicholas de Genova, Columbia U. anthropology professor, campus teach-in, March, 2003 This "elite" spokes person didn't even lose his job. The President of Columbia said it was an example of "free speech." So until left wing low lifes like this professor start paying consequences for their dispicable words, Coulter can say whatever she likes. It's "free speech" don't you know?- 41 replies

Pay attention, udawg. LFB said Saddam was "employed" by the US. Also, LFB claimed Saddam committed "treason" against Islam because he was a US "flunky." For the past 10 years, in case you and LFB have been in a deep freeze state and could not access newspapers, it has not been the USA that supported Saddam. It has been your UN "hero" nations, France, Germany, Russia, and China that have worked with Saddam. As well, it has been Kofi's NGO minions who have turned a blind eye to Saddam mis-using food for oil $. Even before the sanctions of the 1990's, France and Germany and Russia were thick with Saddam supplying him weapons of every variety. So if LFB and you want to talk about "flunkies" and "employment" and associate these terms with Saddam, perhaps you should look at your high brow UN nation-gods and your holier than thou UN-NGO lackeys.

Limits To American Power
Morgan replied to maplesyrup's topic in Federal Politics in the United States
What absolute garbage this Martin Jacques writes! What planet is he living on? To describe Schroeder and Chirac's self-serving backstabbing antics as demonstrating is laughable. And no duh when Jacques says Russia like France and Germany had a lot of money to lose if Saddam were deposed! So sad that thugs like Mugabe and dictators like Assad don't like the USA anymore...I guess that means these folks will refuse to take US foreign aid now...NOT. Global opinion could also mean those geniuses of journalism like Neil MacDonald, CBC, and Robert Fisk, Guardian, and Maureen Dowd, Wahington Post...yuk, yuk... I love this: Guess Mr. Jacques hasn't heard that these "primitive and disorganized" Iraqi terrorists were funded by 5 rich Iraqi families, under the direction of Saddam. Here's another money quote; Oops...Mr. Jacques hasn't heard that Bush's popularity is soaring... Then there's Countless stories generated in the bowels of DemocracyUnderground... And last but not least: Prisoners at Guantanamo have all gained weight. What civil rights have been rolled back? Like the right to blow up innocent civilians with the help of poor airport security? Like the right to live in America illegally and use US welfare services? Amazing how Mr. Jaques would give countless gobs of time to Hans Blix and the UN crew to search for WMD, but the US/UK need to find WMD yesterday. Maybe Jacques considers Libya's call for inspectors is an example of new "disrespect" for US power? I sincerely hope Martin Jaques is never allowed to visit America. He should be labelled "persona non grata" for his mean-spirited tripe. Let Mr. Jacques be limited to the hallowed ground of the EU for all his leisure and business travels. -

1. Ann Coulter graduated from Cornell, not Harvard, mea culpa, but both are Ivy League colleges and substantiate my point that Coulter is a very smart lady. How does my oversight excuse or vindicate your comments about Coulter having a brain of "mush?" You also stated Coulter is "a joke, has the mentality of a two year old." And your ultimate coup de gras to reveal Coulter's lack of intelligence was[laughably]: "if Coulter is so smart how come she couldn't get something as simple as George C. Scott's Oscar rejection right?" I'm sure many Mensa folks would be stumped by the George C. Scott question. 2. If you see yourself as centrist, then indeed, I am centrist too. 3. JFK admired McCarthy, according to Dallek, the author of "Unfinished life": "Dallek reminds readers how stridently anti-communist the young Kennedy was. In Congress, Kennedy joined with Republicans in arguing that the loss of China "rests squarely with the White House and the Department of State." He said he valued Joe McCarthy's "energy, intelligence and political skill" and thought that McCarthy was "onto something" in his charges of communist infiltration. " 4. You said: "Well how about Coulter's quote on "killing their leaders and converting them to Christianity" do you agree with this sentiment? It could be interpretted as hate speech by some. What are you thoughts on it?" First off, I don't see Coulter's hyperbolic, tongue-in-cheek, in your face comments as "hate speech." How absurd! But no doubt, many a dour-faced, humourless, self-righteous liberal sees them as "hate speech." The left wing's main goal in life is that we all become more sensitive. As usual mark Steyn says it best : Mark Steyn on post 9/11 sensitivity 5. Btw, here's the full text article, from which you took Coulter's comments:This is war, Ann Coulter Sept.13/01 Nat'l Review: Coulter lost a friend, Barbara Olsen, wife of Solicitor General Ted Olsen, on one of the downed 9/11 planes, not that anyone cares. 6. Here's Ann Coulter's admission of her liberal-baiting:I love to pick fights with Liberals, Telegraph 7/19/02 "Coulter is no idiot and few would describe her as pedestrian. With an Ivy League degree from Cornell, she went to law school before joining a corporate practice and working as legal counsel for the Senate Judiciary Committee. Coulter's approach is not so much take no prisoners as capture one's opponents, string them up with piano wire, machine-gun them until all movement has ceased and then fire a celebratory volley into the air. "No, I have thought many times that I was being too circumspect and that I should have cut loose a little more," she chuckles. "Obviously, I engage in a lot of invective."But liberals can't tell the difference between invective that's true and invective that isn't true. My invective is backed up in my book with 35 pages of footnotes and examples. They just lie when they call people things."She admits she is deliberately provocative. "Normally, when I write columns I am specifically baiting liberals and I know exactly which line they are going to scream blue murder about." 7. Not that the same people would see anything wrong with "intemperate comments" by their "sensitive" left wing comrades-in-arms: a)Bill Maher "During his return show, Maher agreed with one of his panelists that calling the terrorists "cowards" was inaccurate because they had been willing to die for a cause they believed in. He went on to say, "We have been the cowards, lobbing cruise missiles from 2,000 miles away; that's cowardly." b)Michael Moore "To me, al-Queda is a men's club. To have the world's only superpower at war with a men's club is a little ridiculous." c) Harry Belafonte "I not only think that they (U.S. leaders) are misguided, but I think they know exactly what they are doing and I think that they are men who are possessed of evil." d)Sandra Bernhard "The real terrorist threats are George W. Bush and his band of brown-shirted thugs." e)David Clennon, actor in The Agency "I'm saying that the moral climate within the ruling class in this country is not that different from the moral climate within the ruling class of Hitler's Germany." I'm not comparing Bush to Adolf Hitler - because George Bush, for one thing, is not as smart as Adolf Hitler. And secondly George Bush has much more power than Adolf Hitler ever had." I'm saying that we (Americans) have sunk pretty low and I'm saying that you can look at the moral climate in Germany in 1933. We have to ask ourselves if we found ourselves in Nazi Germany, what would we do. Now I say, let the inspection process take its course." f)Tom Cruise "I think the U.S. is terrifying and it saddens me.Unfortunately we're in a position where people are so irresponsible that human life holds so little value to them." g)Janeane Garofalo "When Communist U.S.S.R. was a superpower, the world was better off." h) Richard Gere "In a situation like this, of course you identify with everyone who's suffering. (But we must also think about) the terrorists who are creating such horrible future lives for themselves because of the negativity of this karma. It's all of our jobs to keep our minds as expansive as possible. If you can see (the terrorists) as a relative who's dangerously sick and we have to give them medicine, and the medicine is love and compassion. There's nothing better." i)Woody Harrelson "This is a racist and imperialist war. The warmongers who stole the White House (you call them "hawks", but I would never disparage such a fine bird) have hijacked a nation's grief and turned it into a perpetual war on any non-white country they choose to describe as terrorist. The war against terrorism is terrorism. The whole thing is just bullsh*t." j)Chrissie Hynde "Have we gone to war yet? We f****** deserve to get bombed. Bring it on."Let's get rid of all the economic (expletive) this country represents! Bring it on, I hope the Muslims win!" k) Norman Mailer "Americans can't admit that you need courage to do such a thing. For that might be misunderstood. The key thing is that we in America are convinced that it was blind, mad fanatics who didn't know what they were doing. But what if those perpetrators were right and we were not? We have long ago lost the capability to take a calm look at the enormity of our enemy's position." l)Michael Moore, again "Many families have been devastated tonight. This just is not right. They did not deserve to die. If someone did this to get back at Bush, then they did so by killing thousands of people who DID NOT VOTE for him! Boston, New York, DC, and the planes' destination of California--these were places that voted AGAINST Bush!" AND "The passengers were scaredy-cats because they were mostly white. If the passengers had included black men those killers, with their puny bodies and unimpressive small knives, would have been crushed by the dudes." m)Viggo Mortensen [Lord of the Rings] "Since 9-11, more people have died in Afghanistan and Iraq than in New York that day — and for not a very good reason." n)Sean Penn "I think that people like the Howard Sterns, the Bill O'Reillys and to a lesser degree the bin Ladens of the world are making a horrible contribution." o)Kevin Richardson[backstreet Boy] "I just think we are a little bit of an arrogant nation and maybe this is a little bit of a humbling experience ... what has our government done to provoke (9/11) that we don't know about?" p)Oliver Stone "They control culture. They control ideas. And I think the revolt of September 11th was about ‘F-- you! F-- your order." q)Robin Williams "We have a president for whom English is a second language. He's like 'We have to get rid of dictators,' but he's pretty much one himself." r)Ken Livingstone, the Mayor of London "I actually think that Bush is the greatest threat to life on this planet that we've most probably ever seen. The policies he is initiating will doom us to extinction." s)Jim Moran Democrat Congressman-Virginia "If it were not for the strong support of the Jewish community for this war with Iraq, we would not be doing this" t) Nicholas de Genova, Columbia U. anthroplogy professor "Peace is not patriotic. Peace is subversive, because peace anticipates a very different world than the one in which we live – a world where the U.S. would have no place. The only true heroes are those who find ways that help defeat the U.S. military. I personally would like to see a million Mogadishus." u) Eric Foner, Head of Columbia U's History Dept. "I'm not sure which is more frightening: the horror that engulfed New York City or the apocalyptic rhetoric emanating daily from the White House." Sources: Moment of truth by David Horowitz. Celebrities discuss the War on Terrorism. 8. 1. Chris Matthews is a dull witted, loud mouthed buffoon. The only people who watch him(apart from you) are the SNL crew, for material on their next show. 2. You say: But further on you do the same thing to me: Well, I'd appreciate it if you Left Wing types wouldn't claim to know what I think about intellect, thank you very much. I value intellect and I value a college education. I have 2 degrees myself. I value smarts. So Coulter and Skolnitsky are people I respect.Ann Coulter graduated cum laude from Harvard despite her conservative opinions. Similarly, Anastazia M. E. Skolnitsky is on the Dean's list at George Mason U. despite threats by liberal professors to lower her grades for her activism on behalf of freedom of speech and religious freedom. What I don't value are pseudo-intellects like Peter Jennings, or Maureen Dowd, Paul Krugman, or Nicholas DeGenova, to name a few. 3. You say: Here's what Coulter was doing...she was trying to bring to light new historical material that's become available from the Soviet Union's archives and from de-classified National Security Agency to show that McCarthy was unfairly demonized. If that's what you think is the equivalent of making McCarthy seem like a "godsend" ...I don't think so. Her point is that McCarthy was "discredited" for things he didn't even do or for the way he went about his investigation. Many of the things commonly associated with McCarthy are false. The House Un-American Activities Committee conducted most of the probes into Hollywood politics and undertook university blacklisting. McCarthy was a Senator and he had nothing to do with HUAC. McCarthy was a jerk, but he was right for the most part. Two cheers for McCarthyism" Jonah Goldberg Feb.26/03. 4. You say: Coulter's point is that today there are "enemies" within like there were in the past. She had to debunk the Left's myths about McCarthy because it's central to her premise that today, like before in WWII, there are enemies within who are working against America's best interests [ACLU? DNC? media?]or worse, are seeking to do harm to America[Al Queda cells]. It's these very people who howl "McCarthy witch-hunt" when they are revealed, as many did in the 1950's and were later found out to be, in fact, "witches." The KGB had penetrated the US government, in fact may still be in the US gov't, Truman may have purposely ignored the security breach, and you still say McCarthy was a "clown?" Critics of McCarthy say far more outrageous things about McCarthy then he said about others. Btw, did you know that McCarthy started out as a Democrat? Did you know that Robert Kennedy was an aide to McCarthy and that McCarthy was a godfather to one of Ethel Kennedy's children? JFK could not bring himself to condemn McCarthy because he knew that much that the Left was saying about McCarthy were lies.- 41 replies

Regarding Libya falling into line, I think the press has not been clear on the rippling effect of Libya's admission...ie. that Lybia was part of a three-some co-operative effort in a WMD programme and that the programme had completely fooled inspectors. Libya's fatal blow to the axis of evil Thank goodness, grown-ups are in charge of the White House. No perks to Libya [or N. Korea for that matter] until the US sees actions not just promises. This article highlights the continued "brain fog" of France...as though Lybia would listen to "diplomacy". Libya responded to the US and UK troops lining up at Iraq's borders not to the UN's meaningless resolutions. Wakey, wakey, Dominique de Villepin. US won't lift sanctions until Libya keeps its word Dec.21/03 NYT Btw, Bush's popularity has soared again to 63% with the capture of Uncle Saddam and the caving in of Gaddafi. Meanwhile, BBC continues on its self-defeating course. BBC management has told its staff to be polite when reporting news on Uncle Saddam: Telegraph Opinion

ModerateCentrist said: Your obtuse comments demonstrate that Coulter is right. In the past 50 years, the Left wing has done such a good job revising historical fact that people like you have been brain washed by school educators to believe McCarthy's concerns had no substance. The declassification of the NSA's Venona Papers in 1995 should have served to vindicate McCarthy were their existence better publicized: Introduction to the VENONA Project by Mr. William P. Crowell, Former Deputy Director, National Security Agency Guess you never heard about the Venona Project, certainly CBC and Macleans did not make a big deal about it. If you don't believe the NSA site, [bush propaganda machine, in your mind, no doubt]you might want to borrow the following book from your public library, which is written by 2 respected US historians, John Haynes and Harvey Klehr, entitled Venona: Decoding Soviet Espionage in America. John Earl Haynes is a 20th Century Political Historian, Library of Congress. Harvey Klehr is Andrew W. Mellon Professor of Politics and History at Emory University. I'll make it easy for you, here are the reviews from Amazon: Amazon blurbs about Venona book Harry Truman may have even known about the infiltration of KGB agents into his government: The Origins of McCarthyism, Robert Novak, Weekly Standard, June 30/03 So for you to claim that Coulter, a Harvard graduate lawyer, is just "rehabilitating" McCarthy to make money or because her brain is made of mush, reflects poorly on your own lack of knowledge with regards to historical fact. Couter is opinionated and often uses hyperbole and satire to make her points, I'll grant you that, but to say her brain is mush is a sad reflection on your judgement. As for your comment: You bet, that's what I'm saying. Chris Matthews is a loudmouth liberal ignoramous hiding in "tough man" sheep's clothing. Matthews worked for Jimmy Carter for 4 years...good grief. And so what if Anastazia M. E. Skolnitsky is a poli sci STUDENT? Does that make her incapable of reviewing the content of Coulter's book? Ms. Skolnitsky is probably a 150% more intellectually "able" to critique Coulter's ideas than Chris Matthews, whom you obviously think is such a genius. Fyi, Skolnitsky is on a MERIT BASED $10,000 renewable scholarship at George Mason University, no small feat. She's a sophomore on the Dean's list and she has worked for the Mercatus Center, an economic think tank, and the Institute for Humane Studies, and has participated in programs offered by the Heritage Foundation and Clare Booth Luce Policy Institute. She also was an intern for Reuters Television in Washington, D.C. Maybe you should show a little more respect for Ms. Skolnitsky's intellectual abilities, Moderate Centrist.- 41 replies

Catch this. The Bush Admin. is planning a direct news feed from Iraq to USA markets. This approach is intended to bypass the biased alphabet channels "interpretive" news reports about the Iraq war and re-construction. Understandably, the alphabet channels executives are "appalled", journalistic nazis that they are. Too bad Bush couldn't do the same for Canadian markets so as to bypass Pravda Broadcasting Corp. yuk, yuk Iraq news feed draws criticism from local media, Dec.19/03 Boston Globe 2. I agree, Craig, that Ann Coulter is a very smart, articulate lady. Left wingers can't abide by her intelligent, on-the-fall repartees that's in the same package as good looks. Moderate Centrist says: There you go. The Left despises Coulter for no reason but for the fact that she exposes their foibles and their phony icons in no uncertain terms. Her latest book about Mccarthyism demonstrates her research skills and her courage to challenge the Left's mantra, which was that McCarthy was evil and he carried on witch hunts against innocent people. Modern Centrist, who I'll bet has not read Coulter's book, nonetheless calls it "mindless garbage" because Chris Matthews doesn't like Coulter. Here's a non-Chris Matthews review about Coulter's book,Treason. Townhall book review of Treason. Btw, Modern Centrist, Chris Matthews worked in the White House under the Jimmy Carter Admin. What does that tell you? IMHO, Matthews is the evil twin of Phil O'Donahue's. Coulter is very blunt...no pc thought police controlling Coulter's brain, and that's "intolerable" for good liberals. I've seen her make mincemeat of some Democrat stooges...Alan Combs comes to mind. As I recall she has a law degree from Harvard but she doesn't practice law. Another bright gal is Laura Ingram, a lawyer and talk show host. If you can get to hear her program via streaming audio, it's well worth the time.- 41 replies

SirRiff, You are the perfect example of desperate people believing desperate things. If you read the Newsweek article instead of just the headline, you would have learned the following: a) the only thing whose"credibility"is being questioned is the memo obtained by the Telegraph's journalist, Con Coughlin. The Bush Admin. is not involved whatsoever. the authors of the Newsweek "expose" have not have seen or read the document in Coughlin's possession c) President Bush has never linked Saddam Hussein to 9/11. In fact, in September of this year, Bush went on record as saying that there was no proof of any complicity between 9/11 terrorists and Saddam when rumours in that regard popped up. d) Furthermore, it's the Bush Admin.officials and an exiled Iraqi ally that inform the Newsweek reporters that they think the document obtained by Coughlin is likely a forgery, though they have not seen the document either: e) It's the Bush Admin's law enforcement and intelligence officials who assert, as they have with the Praque connection, that it's highly unlikely that Atta visited Iraq, though there are several dates in the period when they can't account for Atta's movements. f) the Newseek reporters' transparent bias becomes obvious near the beginning of their article when they leap to the unsupported and pejorative conclusion that: Only a "moron" would believe what these 2 left wing media foot soldiers would say. Get a clue, Riff. The Bush Administration is clearly trying to dissuade anyone of seeing a link between Saddam and 9/11 whenever that issue comes up. The only reason that comes to my mind is that that Bush and Congress fear there would be a violent backlash against ME immigrants living in America. President Bush is a big supporter of the mantra that Middle Easterners are peaceful people; that it's Muslim fanatical extremists and it's a psycho Arab leader who are the anomalies. But if it were confirmed that Saddam and the 9/11 terrorists had a broad network of ME immigrant supporters from "within" the nation, all hell might break out. That's the only reason I can come up with to explain the automatic knee jerk responses from Admin. officials to consistently shoot down Saddam and 9/11 theories. Fyi, it looks like the $750,000 found on Saddam will reveal some potentially embaressing facts. Evidently the bills were brand new US Treasury issued bills with their wrappers still on. These bills will be traceable to the purchaser's identity. Very interesting story. Still developing...
