Subject: A New Canadian Democracy is Needed (An Open Letter to Federal Canadian Leaders)
Date: Sunday, December 22, 2024
Dear Federal Leaders and Politicians,
As the holiday season approaches and an election looms, I find myself reflecting on the future of our democracy. I may be just 16 years old, unable to vote until early 2026, but I believe my voice, along with the voices of countless Canadians, deserves to be heard. Instead of sending this letter privately, I am making it an open letter, hoping it will circulate among the people and reach you in Ottawa. I urge you to respond publicly to all Canadians. When I can finally cast my vote, I want to be able to answer the question, "What change am I really making by voting?"
It doesn’t matter who you are or what party you represent; we have been taught that voting brings change by electing a new Prime Minister. However, the reality is that we often end up choosing our next dictator.
I know the term "dictator" sounds extreme, but hear me out. Once the votes are counted, our voices fade into the background, and your policy decisions take precedence. Politicians and political parties should not impose policies; you are meant to be the voice of the people. Each party has its strengths and weaknesses, forcing Canadians to choose parties that have good and bad policies. This division only serves to fracture our unity. When your party is elected, the good policies may not even be implemented, and we find ourselves living under a dictatorship of sorts.
In the upcoming election, when asked about your stance on various issues, your response should always be, along the lines of "I have no personal policy on this issue. I am here to serve the Canadian people." I challenge you to discard your existing policies and lead us into a new democracy that can inspire the world. Be pioneers, not followers. Run on the principle of listening to the people on an issue-by-issue basis. By doing so, you will not only unite Canadians but also inspire others globally to embrace a new form of democracy, fostering peace and prosperity for all. Your legacy could endure for centuries.
If it proves challenging to campaign without a defined policy under your current party, I urge you to consider uniting under a new banner. I believe there are enough like-minded individuals across all parties to form a coalition dedicated to the common good of the people.
With a population of approximately 40 million, how can a small number of representatives accurately reflect the desires of so many? It’s impossible. People lie, politicians lie, and we are often manipulated by both domestic and foreign interests without even realizing it. The solution lies in the technology at our fingertips. We no longer need dictators if we can make our own decisions with a few taps on our devices. I urge you to be leaders and create a fair democracy that is not merely a copy of existing systems.
The software for this new democracy must be developed by the people, not owned by the government. Initially, the leaders of this new democracy should establish a free, non-profit organization to create an open-source solution that empowers our democracy. Many brilliant Canadians would eagerly seize this opportunity to kickstart this initiative. It must be free and open-source, as this is the future of democracy, not just for us, but for the entire world. Once others see what we have achieved, they will join us in developing their own democratic systems.
It is important to note that some may propose an open-source solution incorporating cryptocurrency, we must firmly reject any such notions. The corruption and criminality within the crypto industry necessitates a separate discussion, and it should never be associated with the vision of a truly free and uncorrupted democracy.
While we will still need leaders elected every four years to represent us, the new leaders of this democracy must prioritize the will of the people over their personal agendas. The feedback cycle should be determined by the people, but to illustrate, we could start with a system that allows citizens to petition the government on issues they care about. Once a petition garners enough support, the government can consult the people on how to proceed. In this new democratic framework, policies will be determined collaboratively, with the pros and cons presented to the people for their votes through the app or software every couple months.
Policies should be decided by the people, with leaders acting solely as representatives. Furthermore, the voice of the people will be both auditable and anonymous, ensuring transparency while safeguarding individual privacy. It is essential that the will of the Canadian people is enshrined in our constitution. Policies should be implemented for long periods, around four to six years, to allow for meaningful results before any changes are considered.
In conclusion, the time to act is now. It is time to set aside past and current policies and commit to a democracy where the people, not politicians, make policy decisions. We have the capability to make our own choices, and technology can facilitate this. Your role will be to listen and represent us as equals to the Prime Minister. This will lead to a fair and just society, free from corruption and dishonesty. If you do not act now, the risk of corruption and foreign interference will only grow, and we will continue to live under a dictatorship, regardless of which party is in power.
Do the right thing. Let Canada lead the way, or we risk losing this opportunity while other countries embrace a new age of democracy. Let us show the world what a true democracy looks like.
Empower the People!
Unite, Don’t Divide!
Bring peace and prosperity to all!
Sincerely,
A Future Prime Minister of Canada
