Whats a little ironic, is  you "may" of voted liberal twice already extending Justin magical mystery tour and are just waking up now.... After the damage is down... anyway welcome back.

Nope. The first time around I had decided to sit it out but the Conservative attack ads pissed me off so I went out and voted Liberal. Second time around SNC Lavalin had happened and Morneau and that trip to India so I sat out the second time around. You can't blame me. Especially since my riding is solidly NDP.

I'm an old-school liberal. Capital L Liberal, too. The last federal politician I liked was Jean Chretien.

edit- I'd get behind Jody Wilson-Rayboult if she could be a Liberal leadership candidate.

No, I disagree. You see, I finally understand where anti-Americanism stems from.... it's because America, despite all the bad things they've done, has never been stopped. Germany and Japan both did bad things. How come the world doesn't hate them? European empires did bad things. How come the world doesn't hate them? China is doing bad things in the South China Sea. How come the world doesn't hate them and a lot are even siding with them, including Canadians? Because all of them were stopped, destroyed, suffered starvation, suffered countless deaths inflicted upon them, especially with China.

The US has never suffered such a fate. It's not fair! They did bad things too! Why haven't they fallen? Why are we still allied with them! Why is my country still trading with them! They are arrogant to think that they are better than everyone! How dare they! We should all hate them until..... well.... until they..... ummm..... we should just hate them for the heck of it!

And to prove this, why is nobody talking about people who are actually committing crimes against humanity? Countries that are starving? Have no water? People who are in dire poverty? Why is everyone talking about Trump? Why is everyone talking about stupid fat Americans?

That is why a lot of people want America to fall apart and want a lot of Americans dead, and yes this mentality is embedded in the Canadian mentality too.

    Like Grand Mal?

You should tell that to Grand Mal.

I worked with Canadians all the time in the IT industry...many striving to get their "green cards" to work in the USA as permanent residents.   They try to hide their citizenship, but it is easy to spot them as soon as they open their mouths.   The funny part is that the Canadian consultants felt they were superior to the Indians, Pakistanis, Ukrainians, Chinese, etc. just because they know who Gilligan was.

Oh, anecdotes? Okay. There's Americans here where I live. Two who came as draft evaders, a couple in their mid fifties and an older woman who writes and publishes in Britain, of all things. The couple are, were, real estate agents. Now he fancies himself a farmer and her MS has her pretty much confined to a wheel-chair. She went back to her family last summer, the marriage fallenv apart, but came back here after a few weeks. She lives in a small ground-floor hotel room and wheels herslf to the cafe for her meals. The draft dodgers are both retired, one was a surveyor, the other a commercial fisherman. The other woman travels a lot and writes about it. She's a good conversation and the only one whose company I can take for more than an hour at a time.

No, you are in denial.   I have already provided the !American identity narrative written by Canadians, not Americans.  It is well known and routinely acknowledged.   You just did it again in the post above.

As for the French and Canadian identity, I leave that to you and Quebec.

I know if you try hard enough you can define what it means to be Canadian without referring to Americans, Brits, or the French.

Sorry, you didn't provide anything. Certainly not anything "well known and routinely acknowledged". Well, maybe well known and routinely acknowledged in the US, where everything is defined by It's relationship to the US, but in fact most Canadians don't pay any attention to the difference between us and Americans. We just take it as a given, especially since the difference is reinforced by everyone else around the world. There's no risk of confusing the two, no need to emphasize the difference.

Want a bit of fun? Next time you go outside of America -uh, you are American, right? Next time you go to another country, see if you can pull off impersonating a Canadian. Just for shits and giggles. If you do pull it off, see how your reception is different from when you were recieved as an American. My money says you couldn't be taken as Canadian, but I bet I could be taken for American. Which says Americans are defined as not Canadian.

  5. 4 minutes ago, bush_cheney2004 said:

Correct...Americans are proud of who they are and what they have done....and what they will do.

Their identity is not defined by what they are not, unlike many Canadians who define their identity as NOT AMERICAN.

    ...big difference.

Wrong. Canadians don't define Canadians. We don't insist on a Canadian identity, we don't use the word "assimilate" about immigrants. Yeah, we insist on the difference between us and Americans the same way we insist on the difference between us and Brits or French or everyone else. What you're doing is what Americans are known for, making everything somehow about it's relationship to the US.

Canada is a great country to call home.

Every Canadian should be proud of their country, even if it smacks of "American style...oh no!"...nationalism.

National pride makes Canadians a little uncomfortable. We hesitate to express pride in something we had no part in, like being born Canadian. Americans jump all over any chance to be proud of what previous generations accomplished, like high school kids swelling with pride at the three consecutive championship banners from 5 years ago hanging from the gymnasium ceiling. One thing every American should bear in mind- it doesn't matter if they're 4 years old or 44, America was a better country the day they were born than it is today. Americans are squandering their inheritance. Their grandparents wouldn't recognize what they've done with their country.

All they can do is whinge whinge whinge about how bad the American government is and how stupid the American people are to no avail.  Hopeless and angry all the time because they can't stop the USA, just like they stopped the Nazis and the Japanese. All they can do is hope.... wish..... that America collapses and that millions of Americans die in the process and that America will be no more. They are afraid, just like their European masters, to make this happen through force, they are afraid to lose their lives, their property, and everything that they love which a lot comes from America. Of course they don't want to admit this otherwise it would feed the American ego.

Canucks, stop lying to yourselves that you care for the welfare of humanity. All this "we hate them because they bomb other countries and kill other people" is utter BS. If you truly hated them for that, then why haven't you stopped them, hmm? Answer me that. Come on, answer me that! Why didn't you stop the Vietnam War? The Invasion of Panama? The Afghan War? The Iraq War? Why haven't you shot down their drones which I thought is killing thousands of innocent people? Why is Canada still allied with the evil USA? Why is Canada still trading with the evil USA? Why does canuckland still have treaties with the evil USA? Come on canucks! Give me an answer. You can't be selective of what you want and don't want for the rest of your lives.

Just admit that you hate them because just like your European masters, Canadians cannot believe that a bunch of traitors, inferiors, mongrels, outcasts, were able to build such a powerful nation. You cannot believe that such a stupid bunch of inferiors are able to hold on to such a great power. You cannot believe that out of all the nations out there, you had to build one right next to theirs. You cannot believe that out of all the nations out there that you could have built a strong economy with, you just had to build it with them. You cannot believe that out of all the nations out there, America is the one you need the most to survive. But of course, you will never admit this because that would feed the hated American ego.

I find Canadians to be far more arrogant and just plain downright annoying compared to Americans. At least the Americans can back their words up. What do Canadians have to show for?

I love how Americans brag about being the biggest, meanest dog on the block and then melt down into childlike tantrums whenever they think they're not getting the love they need and deserve. Criticize anything about the USA in the presence of Americans and watch the group self-pity party kick into gear. Anywhere you go in the world, if there's Americans there they demand that they get an extra share of empathy and soothing, salving cuddles. It's the cause of more eye-rolling and face-palming than a roomful of spoiled brats.

Have you even bothered to attend the many protest rallies that are being done today against Covid here in BC and elsewhere in Canada? There have been a few protests here in BC against Convid 19 the past few weeks where thousands of people have attended and been seen carrying signs that pretty much said end this Convid lie now. And it was great to see so many anti-Convid Canadian patriots not wearing a face mask nor social distancing. I guess that all of those that attended the protest rally are now in danger of getting the convid virus now, eh? Chuckle.

There should be more Covid party's around to let the communist dictator politicians in Victoria know that they do not want to play this Covid hoax and lie game anymore. I see hundreds of people every day in my travels and not wearing one of those face diaper masks nor social distancing. They do not seem to be worried about catching this China virus like you are. They appear to not be living in a state of fear and panic and paranoia like you are doing.

And just what gives you the idea that anyone attending some Covid party are getting sick or are spreading the China virus around anyway? Let me see now? Oh ya, is that information that you are getting coming from the lying politicians, and the lying media, and that so called lying health minister of BC by chance?

This is not about any virus at all. This is all about power and control now which is being used by our dear comrade leaders against and over we the people. You know as much about this China virus as I do about how to build an airplane. At least I have taken the time to get both sides of the story. Have you? Have you even bothered to look up Event 201 on the internet yet?

It is those covidiots out there that are responsible for trying to change our past old normal life and those covidiots are now trying to force a new normal life on people who do not want to have anything to do with it nor believe in this virus hoax anymore. Stop being a follower and start acting more like a leader. There are thousands of people in Canada who are now trying to act more like leaders rather than followers.

We will put an end to this Orwellian 1984 virus scamdemic exercise once and for all. Sadly, we are fighting for your freedoms also. ;)

In every crisis there's a handful of people that just can't be counted on, that cross their arms and refuse to be inconvenienced. "I don't want to and you can't make me!" Like the jerks who get caught building campfires during fire ban season they either deny the need or think it doesn't apply to people as smart as they are. Like the buffoon in the White House they consider everyone who chips in and does their part to be losers and suckers.

Anyone who refuses to take part in the safety measures should be handcuffed for a few hours to the bedside of someone dying badly with a tube snaked down their windpipe and a machine pumping air into them.

    2. I am not stressed about it at all. I am just tired of hearing about it. I doubt that if people stopped doubting or denying the holocaust that it will ever stop. Maybe we need to hear more often about what the Japanese did to our Canadian soldiers while they were their prisoners during the war or how about the Holodomor where millions of Ukranians were murdered by Stalin and his Russian communist soldiers, or how about the tens of thousands of German and Polish soldier prisoners that were murdered by Stalin and his communist soldiers after the war. There have been many holocausts that have happened during the war. Why do we never hear enough about those war horror stories on TV? Can you answer that one for me?

Geez, you're asking the wrong guy. You'll have to ask one of those TV guys. Good luck, eh.

What international poisoners will be exterminated? All of them or just one of them?

I am pretty sure that any leader of any political party in power will probably say the same thing that the only way we can win our struggle is to defeat our enemies and send them off to prison or exterminate them. No doubt Stalin, and Roosevelt, and Churchill had said those exact same words also if they win the war. What do you think? They are going to just get together after the war and sit down and have a cup tea and coffee together and forget about the war? Someone has to pay the price. Unfortunately for Hitler, he had to pay the price. What more can be said.

Shot himself, didn't he? Decided he couldn't 'pay the price'.

And some websites on the internet have explained that the Zyklon B gas used in the concentration camps were being used to kill off the many diseases that came about because of the dirty and filthy conditions of so many prisoners being confined together in those camps. The many dead bodies apparently were placed in those so called ovens to kill off those diseases. As the old saying goes? To the victor goes the spoils and the propaganda. There is nothing more than trying to make your defeated enemy look like some kind of an inhumane SOB.

You do know that the Japanese and the Italians were on the same side of the Germans in the 2nd WW. They obviously must of been in favor of what Hitler was supposedly doing to the Jews, but yet they never get talked about as much as Hitler is talked about. Why is that anyway? The war is over now and it is time to forget about the past and let's all just get on with life. We all have heard enough and know enough about WW2 and what may have happened. We do not need to be reminded every day on TV over and over and over again. Give it a break. :(

Any guess why the SS would specify that the Zyklon be supplied without the indicator?

If you're being stressed by  reminders of the holocaust, well, it's probably going to continue as long as people express doubt and denial.

Trump put tariffs on Canadian steel and aluminum to spark U.S. production and stop transshipments, IP theft, dumping, and 300% dairy tariffs by Canada.   Security risk is the legal mechanism for him to do so.   Trump would have hammered auto exports from Ontario but GM & Ford begged him not to do it.

I sure hope so...nothing special about Canada compared to other trading partners.  Canada has expanded "allies" as a very broad excuse for all manner of trade and policy disputes with the United States.

Trumps tarrifs are obvious violations of the NAFTA. And his crying about big, bad Canada taking America's lunch money was bogus. NAFTA was negotiated by Bush Sr. who wanted to bring Mexico into the Canada-USA Free Trade Agreement signed by Reagan and Mulroney. When Trump told you that the USA had a trade deficit with Canada he was lying. A balance of trade is figured by totalling the value of all goods and services that pass between countries. He took the value of services out of the equation.

Canada arrested Meng Wanzhou at the request of the USA and China retaliated by arresting two Canadians and applying trade sanctions. Canada requested the US hold off on a trade deal until this is resolved but Trump went ahead. He's already speculated that Meng might be a negotiating piece in his dealings with China.

Canada and the US can hardly be said to be allies anymore. Trump has changed that status, along with making the word of an American President worthless. What's the value of any agreement with America when the next President can just tear it up and you have to start over from scratch?

  19. On 2/6/2020 at 5:57 AM, bush_cheney2004 said:

That's fine...Canada should do whatever it needs/wants to do, but that doesn't mean Trump or any U.S. president is going to always agree.

I find it odd that Trump "broke the law" and is held in such low regard in Canada, but there is still an expectation and demand that he has Canada's back....because "allies".

Allies? Canada is a national security risk to the USA. That's why the American President put tariffs on Canadian products when there was a free-trade agreement in place between the two countries. That's not 'allies'.

What's your guess- will Trump toss Canada under the Chinese bus when Meng Wanzhou is in American hands?

I read somewhere that some didn't even know what would be going through the pipeline. All they're doing is alienating the public. I won't be surprised when the Native protesters put the run on them.

Most of the guys I worked with wouldn't trust far-left activists any farther than they could toss them. Give it a moment's thought. Most of the Natives I worked with wanted no part of any ideological political partisanship. Hell, lots of them from the Six Nations didn't consider themselves Canadian or American.
