  1. That is a true statement. I do not know. I cannot look at statistics before the war on terror as the geopolitical scene was vastly different. I however would be willing to cut the spending to $0 and roll the dice.
  2. Of course we do. How much money globally is spent annually on terror related expenditures? USA alone spent $16 Billion USD in 2013. http://thinkbynumbers.org/government-spending/anti-terrorism-spending-disproportionate-to-threat/ How many people are affected by terrorism in a year? 17 Americans were killed by "terror" attacks in the same period. http://blogs.cfr.org/zenko/2012/06/05/how-many-americans-are-killed-by-terrorism/ I cannot confirm these as facts as they were just result of a quick Google search. I imagine that these are within the correct ballpark.
  3. It is far riskier to take a ride in a vehicle than it is to be a victim of a terror attack in Canada. Likely almost everywhere in the world. The numbers don't lie. Maybe this new legislation may prevent an attack. Maybe it will do nothing other than strip away the rights we once fought to keep. Regardless, I would rather be without this additional restraint placed on my freedoms and rights even if there is a minuscule reduction in my safety. The amount of money spent on the illusion of terror/war on terror is in error!
  4. ARGUS, Spend 20 minutes and learn how wrong you really are.
  5. Argus. A few pages back is a video link I urged you to watch. I bet you haven't. There was a debate on just this topic of inequality on Islam and women. The facts were presented and then if you care to look further they were independently reviewed and proven factual in a follow up video I can post a link to. It was a big news story on CNN and that is how I followed it. Instead of banter get educated.
  6. In Islam a woman is equal to a man. In some countries with Muslim majorities the culture of the country is responsible for the hardships on women. Not Islam. Educate yourself. I have. Some Muslim countries have women leaders. USA has never had a woman President.
  7. I think that if I was her I would have just taken it off to get into this great country. I am not as brave as her. I am proud of what is she is fighting for and she has the right to wear what she wants. I hope the best for her and her family in Canada.
  8. I have been employed continuous since 1995. I have no concerns about weathering another downturn. There is always a need for a good electrician. I do not work in the oil patch and this downturn seems to be nowhere near the depths of a few years ago. That being said, there is no guarantees. I also wouldn't like to see my neighbours struggling either. I cannot imagine voting for Harper. I have in the past, I will never again. I do not know anything about the other candidates... minus the attack ads etc.
  9. I have come to the conclusion that has cemented my previous suspicions. It is not the Niqab or the Hijab that is the problem. It is just those damn Muslims coming to our country in the first place. Isn't that right Captain Canada? Sound about right Argus?
  10. There is more to Islam than the Qaran. These are called Hadith and Sunnah. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hadith http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sunnah Muslims who follow the Qaran also follow the above as well. Here is an example regarding women covering their hair. http://www.irfi.org/articles/women_in_islam/is_head_cover_for_women_mandator.htm
  11. Female mutilation is not an Islamic thing. I don't know how this misconception can be credited to the Qaran. Watch this video please. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PzusSqcotDw
  12. OMG please stand back and look at the outlandish statements. You have a greater chance of dying slipping on the ice than by a terror attack in Canada... Yes Canada... a country that already has well over 1 Million Muslims in it already. Yes over 1 Million of these bombers that are spreading their terror and explosives around our cities everyday. Our infrastructure is in ruins and terror training recruitment mosques are at every corner. People are being forced to convert everywhere at gunpoint... Relax. Get in your car and drive to work. You should worry more about that than anything else as it is likely the most risky thing you have to do in your daily life. Car crashes claim more lives in one year than ALL of the Canadians that have died from terror attacks EVER. If your so scared about a non-threat maybe you should focus on reality. Per 2011 stats on fatal accidents http://www.tc.gc.ca/media/documents/roadsafety/TrafficCollisionStatisitcs_2011.pdf
  13. Back to my point previously. We came to Canada and did not what the aboriginals did. We ASSIMILATED and pillaged. It is harassment when you blatantly tell someone they are not acceptable to your standards. You were likely a bully in school and it never ended there... am I right to assume?
  14. The thanks for the replies. I guess I have to prioritize my wish list and start from the top down making concessions one the way.
  15. Some forms of music offend me. Some types of relationships in public offend me. Some tv shows and movies offend me. Some forums I visit offend me. If I don't like it it is my duty to turn the other way, not try to change everyone else who is fine with it.
  16. Thanks for the replies... I work as an electrician in Alberta. As a Canadian I find the following things important. No specific order. -freedom of expression/speech, religious freedoms, democratic freedoms, less big brother -strong stable economy, economic diversity -safe food, GMO labelling -healthy environment, clean air -transparant govt, less govt wastage -foreign policy that is not so paralleled to the USA -less/no lobbying -upgrades to infrastructure -education reform -reduction in needless military spending -better image internationally
  17. Well said
  18. The other day I was walking through a mall and saw a woman wearing a Niqab. I have only seen this a handful of times living in Calgary. It kind of catches me off guard when I notice someone wearing one... I guess it is just because I rarely see it. It doesn't bother me. Why should it? I have no right to know why she is wearing it or what she looks like under it. It is none of my business... Period. Do I want people in Canada to act the same as me in public? No. Why should I impose my beliefs as the standard for others? Nobody is forcing me to wear a Niqab. The argument that I hear frequently is "This is Canada. If you don't like our culture/customs than don't come here and try to impose your beliefs etc on us!" Hmmm... makes me think pretty hard about what us settlers and explorers did to the Aboriginals in Canada when we first got here and continue to do recently. Did we not come to this country and force the Aboriginals apart from their customs/beliefs/religion and assimilate them to be more like us? Did we not force Christianity on their children when we stole them from their families and threw them in residential schools? Remember... remember??? Why do we get so offended when we see a woman in a Niqab? What about the man I saw with a Swastika tattoo on his neck at 7/11. He has the right to possess that? We will stand up for his rights to express himself even though it is very hurtful to many people? I am proud to be Canadian, but not so proud of many of my fellow Canadians.
  19. What was meant was simple. If the suspects were Muslim than by default regardless of why the attacks were to be carried out, the title of the articles would have the word terror or terrorists in it.
  20. Just because Harper and Mackay made the call doesn't let the media off the hook.
  21. Any advice would be appreciated... kind advice. I am struggling with my political compass lately and with the upcoming federal election I am wondering how to better inform myself on the parties/candidates. Obviously I could spend hours on Google, scouring over biased articles... but there must be other methods. How is an un-decided voter supposed to get a crash course on each party/candidate? I took a couple online quizzes containing questionnaires. Every one I took led me to complete different outcomes. I should be Liberal, oh wait ; Conservative... Now I'm Communist, hmm... now NDP. Any suggestions?
  22. Here is why it was not labelled as an act of terror. John commits a crime and John is to blame. Ali commits a crime and Islam is to blame. Period. Double standards by the media. Disgusting... plain and simple.
