Nik Nanos of SES Research has posted some interesting poll numbers on attitudes towards multiculturalism. Basically, the poll finds that Canadians are far less accommodating towards religious and cultural minorities than is commonly thought. 53% of Canadians thought immigrants should fully adapt to Canadian culture, a far cry from the mosaic model of Canadian multiculturalism that we hear so much about. What’s especially interesting to me in the current context is that it might explain some of the opposition to Ontario Conservative leader John Tory’s position on faith-based schools in that province.
