M.Dancer Posted June 29, 2007 Report Share Posted June 29, 2007 A young fellow in my office recently attended a sales conference for an Anglo-American magazine in Cancun (poor chap) He was travelling with the boss on the flight back and they had to get a connecting flight in Atlanta. Now before I continue, this fellow is Canadian born and of Indian descent. ..... In Atlanta he gets the tap, "could you come with us". He prepared for the usual extra scrutiny and maintains his genteel professional manner. He is taken to an interview room where a zealous agent awaits. The questions begin... "What is your purpose in visiting America?" He answers, "to get a connecting flight" "Oh" the agent says....and taps some keys on his computer.... Why were you in Cancun? Our fellow explains the sales conference, shows his the photos of him and the Cheerleaders wearing the magazines logos as bikinis.... You work for (the magazine)? He tells him of his involvement with promotions and events....the agent is envious... The agents then says...."So Mr. M___, you don't do comedy anymore? He does.....and the truth be told, he did foolishly once do stand up comedy at a large high profile NYC comedy club where he was arrested for performing while Canadian (no work permit-) .....five years ago, lessons learned.... The agent says,...."so you haven't worked in the US since then...? "No Sir" he answers..... "You were in Palm Springs in March" Magazine business, he answers.... "New York in April" Magazine business, he answers.... He looks at our man, smiles knowing he has him caught in a lie. I see you had roles in a movie.....and names Hollywood Bollywood.... "That was made in Canada" he answers "Doc" says the agent.....laying down Billy Ray Cyrus as a trump "Filmed in Toronto" comes the answer Sue Thomas FB Eye? "Toronto" "New York Minute?" "Toronto" At this point our man notices the agent is going through his bio on IMbd...... ...he say then, "you know, I would really like to perform in the USA...." ....and then he is thanked for his cooperation and wished a pleasant journey. Total time interviewed, under 2 hours. he missed his flight but was treated to lunch..... Later back in Toronto we ask if he's on a no fly list.... No but they are making sure that America is Safe from Canadian Actors...... .....joking aside, he doesn't bear any grudges to the agents, least not to the US agents. His agent, on the other hand, the one that got him the NYC gig and told him he wouldn't need a work visa ...... Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
geoffrey Posted July 1, 2007 Report Share Posted July 1, 2007 I find that most people that act reasonably have little trouble, but those that start some political rant about the white Jihad against whatever and so on likely are the ones that land themselves in trouble. That said, I'm still not sold on any no fly list... like I've said, people that are on it don't fly under their own names... that'd be stupid. So what's the point.
