Did anyone catch that "documentary" about global warming on the 5th estate?

What a pile of crap. The whole show questions world renouned scientists for some indirect funding connection to a donor in the energy sector. First of all, give me a break: energy companies charitably give to all kinds of organizations.

Second, even if there was some loose or strong connection, that doesn't take away from the science. ie. Play the ball, not the man.

Third: The "talking head" they featured on the show as the expert on "bad science" isn't even a scientist. How can a show, with any credibility, attempt to discredit science with a...get this: PUBLIC RELATIONS MAN.

The big "expert" on global warming deniars, JAMES HOGGAN, happens to own a PR firm in vancouver. And guess who his clients are?

a veritable WHOSE WHO list of ALTERNATIVE ENERGY COMPANIES AND THE DAVID SUZUKI FOUNDATION.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA :lol::lol::lol:

I think people look too hardly at the credentials of non-warming supporters and not hard enough at the others.

Alternative energy has as much lobbying interest as oil in this battle, those that can't see the money in global warming are blind.

Do you have any evidence for this?

Almost three thousand people died needlessly and tragically at the World Trade Center on September 11; ten thousand Africans die needlessly and tragically every single day-and have died every single day since September 11-of AIDS, TB, and malaria. We need to keep September 11 in perspective, especially because the ten thousand daily deaths are preventable.

That there is no environmental lobby? Inherently they'd support the alternative energy sector. Where do you think these hippies get their money?

Let me do some research, in the meantime, I ask you do the same. Do you have any evidence that all global warming nay-sayers are oil funded? You don't think there is any real opposition?

If you actually believe that, may I suggest that may be due to some ignorance of the scale of this debate.

No, I mean do you have an evidence that there is as much lobbying on the part of alternative energy. Of course alternative energy is lobbying, but I doubt it's nearly as big as the oil lobby.

I thought you meant lobbying the government in general. The lobbying registry can be found Here

If you are talking about global warming studies being funded by oil companies, then no, I don't have that evidence without doing more research.

Now you are grasping. If alternative energy companies were giving hundreds of thousands of $'s to environmental groups to push Global Warming then you'd have a point.

As it is you have less than nothing with that.

Saw an interesting presentation on NOVA tonight.

Says the Permian extinction was caused by the earth being warmed, through some serious volcanic activity in what is now Siberia, which released tons of CO2 and other good stuff into the atmosphere. Anyway the excess CO2 warms the earth, which warms the oceans, which due to scientific principles cannot hold as much gas ie. oxygen, when they are warm as opposed to when they are cold.(Think of a cold soft drink compared to a warm one) The lack of Oxygen creates a perfect environment for some bacteria that release some type of sulphuric poisonous gas into the water, as a by product, killing any nearby life. After reaching a critical mass under water, the gas begins to actually bubble out of the oceans, killing any local life on land and poisoning the atmosphere. Cool stuff. Permian Extinction saw 95% of life in the oceans wiped out.

They don't have the whole segment up on the PBS site yet but I will post it later when they do.

Harper differed with his party on some key policy issues; in 1995, for example, he was one of only two Reform MPs to vote in favour of federal legislation requiring owners to register their guns.
