I know Aramaic was the "street language" of ancient Judah and Israel. I didn't know it was a living language.

Our mourning prayer, and wedding katubah (contract) are still written and read in Aramaic, not Hebrew.

Jesus Christ is claimed to have spoken Aramaic. I believe the largest concentration of modern Aramaic speakers is in Syria, specifically Maaloula.

There are many Christians in Lebanon, Syria, Iraq and Egypt. Yasser Arafat's wife was a Palestinian Christian.

These Christians live in dhimmitude. Most of the Jews in these countries have moved to Israel although there is a synagogue in Damascus.

The Islamofascists would like to make this a war of religion. Although it may eventually become one, that's not what it really is at all. Rather, it's a war to defend the individual's freedom to choose.

Aramaic, Hebrew, Arabic are all derived from a much more ancient language called Akkadian. It is very interesting that you still write and read in Aramaic. Thank you for that :)! The Chaldean, Assyrian, Syriac's have spoken this language and protected it for generations.

When we greet one another we say Shlama Elokhon, Hebrews say Shalom, and Arabs say Salam....and all three mean PEACE!

Regards,

Inanna, Ashtaroth in Hebrew :)

Greetings,

I'm sure that Jesus of Nazareth spoke Aramaic! :) What other language could he have spoken? It was the Lingua Franca of the time. Yes, many people in Syria speak the Aramaic language, but the Indegenous people of Mesopotamia (Chaldeans, Assyrians, Syriacs) also speak the language, and for many many generations. Have you ever heard of the ancient Christian city in the North of Iraq called Alqosh? My home town.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alqosh

The Jews are a branch of our people. Of course Jewdaism is a religion, in reality there is no such thing as a Jewish people. Moderin Jewish people are descendants of the ancient people of the Middle East as we all are. They are most likely Sumerians as Abrahams father Terah was born in the Sumerian city of Nippur! Abraham though is considered the first Hebrew Patriarch and wanted to create a Nation from his tribe of Sumerians who left their home city of Ur (South Iraq today).....

I wish this war about the individuals freedom to choose :)....

The reality is though that my people (Eastern Christians) are stuck between two dialectical opposites Islamic Fanatacism and American Democracy....

Oh yes and other than freedom and choice ... I have two words for you.. Oil... and Occupation... Somewhere between these two words and the former my people will be extinct in ten years....

Regards,

Inanna

Sign the Petition to show your support for the Christians of Iraq who are suffering in the Middle East right now to the extent that the only place their children are safe are in Christian grave yards.

What have the children of the Chaldeans, Assyrians and Syriac's done to Canadians? Are they also terrorists?
