Friedman's greatest regret is the invention of payroll taxes. In America and Canada, governments deduct various taxes at the pay statement.

Elsewhere in the world, people pay taxes as we Americans and Canadians pay property taxes or HOA fees.

In Montreal, the local jurisdiction sends me a property tax bill. I pay it.

I reckon we should pay all taxes this way.
