Cognitive dissonance is the tension created between what you believe you should do and what you actually do. Lying, for example.

What the video talks about is the strength of the law of primacy and psychological or mental rigidity. For example, I learned that the brontosaurus is a large, plant eating dinosaur. It wasn't. It was a mistake. But I still list the brontosaurus as a dinosaur every time it comes up. I also know all about those special elements at the bottom of the periodic table that have since vanished because they were disproven.

The law of primacy and mental rigidity can also apply to interpersonal relationships. Bill Cosby might be the perfect example. I know I loved the guy growing up. He was silly, funny, wholesome and just an absolute hero to so many. To be honest, I still haven't shed those feelings. I know he did some awful stuff, but it is hard to change an opinion of someone when it is completely opposite of your primary impression.

My point is, you used Twain for a nonTwain quote and you used the wrong term for the psychological phenomenon discussed in the video. The question is, can you admit it?

He's absolutely convinced that it's cognitive dissonance that prevents us from even weighing the merits of his cultist drivel, but cognitive dissonance would actually involve giving it at least some consideration before rejecting it.  

It's conformation bias that involves just rejecting sources of information outright without even viewing/hearing or considering them.
