I have often thought that Lebanon is to Syria what the island of Montreal is to Quebec.
Urban and rural people who sort-of understand each other.

Lebanon, like Montreal, is a complex place: Urban people. Syria is rural.

Damascus is to Beirut what Quebec City is to Montreal.
