No, according to your source it's actually the Commons Ethics Committee report that is proposing this. This committee also includes the input of a bunch of Conservatives as well.

Here's what your source actually says.

Canada should adopt a code of practice on media disinformation, says a Commons ethics committee report. Liberal MP Iqra Khalid (Mississauga-Erin Mills, Ont.), a committee member, called it among “the biggest issues of our time.”

Have you got any quotes from Conservative members also saying we're all fùcked?

A government without public oversight is like a nuclear plant without lead shielding.

She is 100% correct. Disinformation has been the greatest threat to democracy in the past decade. We really need to pass laws and regulations, that punish the people that spread blatant disinformation. We have seen first hand at what damage it has done, especially during the COVID pandemic.

Canada Proud is a perfect example of a "media" entity that has ties to Russia, and it's misinformation campaign.

You need to learn from us. When the liberals start making excuses for taking away your rights, they intend to take away your rights. And they will do whatever it takes. If they find a way to suppress your speech, they can then make up anything they want and you can't say anything to stop them.

We got lucky and a billionair bailed us out. What billionair will bail you out?

It's not disinformation. It's information you don't like.

And what do you conservatives intend?

BTW why do you keep missing the fact the Canadian Conservative Party also had a hand in writing the report calling for a code of practices to help prevent media disinformation?

Not much of a hand. I understand they were shouted down by the NDP and liberals on the committee.

Nice try though

Huh?

Second Amendment: "I have the right to be the first kid to be the last kid on my street."

BTW, your amendment specifically refers to a "well-ordered militia".

And? That should make this more concerning to you, not less.

It says well-regulated. That means properly functioning.

But the disinfo problem goes hand in hand with the poor ecology of the public in shooting down ridiculous claims.  It should be a common habit for people to shoot down extremists from their own side of the fence, IMO.  Liberals shoot down radical claims by leftists, Red Torys shoot down alt-right weirdos.

Clean up the mess and disinfo will stand out like a piece of sh!t on the floor of a pastry shop.

So let's legalize militias and ban individuals from owning firearms less than 250 years old ?  Maybe you have a germ of an idea, Auguste.

I appreciate your posts.

The irony of this radical left takeover of Canada’s government and institutions is that Canada did not allow slavery or have bounty hunting of Indigenous or massacres of any groups.  The US did (Price per head, Wounded Knee, etc).  In fact it was progressive Canada that set up free public education and accommodation for Indigenous children and there isn’t a single piece of evidence for the intentional killing of an Indigenous person.  Nevertheless, the Canadian government says that Canada committed cultural genocide and Canada appears on the world stage as a colonial genocidal state. Why is that?

It has everything to do with a government and institutions dominated by people who don’t know what real hardship and loss of freedom means.  They think that looking at someone the wrong way or saying something mildly offensive is triggering and an act of violence.  they don’t understand the value of free speech. These people complete with each other before media to prove how woke and progressive they are.  Everyone knows it’s fake and most people don’t even agree with the sanctimonious platitudes.  The bottom line is that Canada, its culture, and its citizens have been thrown under the bus to score political points with the UN and other unaccountable bodies.  That’s one of the reasons Trump has had such appeal south of the border.  He doesn’t kowtow to foreign entities or pretend to be something he isn’t for the cameras.  I’d rather have a real person as a leader who says what he really thinks than a big phoney.

the general population is yet still naive as to the irreversible cascading nature of this civilizational collapse

the masses still pinning their hopes on voting as a remedy

the next shoe to drop

will be when voting the Trudeau Liberals out of office has no discernible effect

all the intuitions have been completely hollowed out

the very infrastructure of the state itself has already collapsed

once the Bastille has already been stormed, there's no going back

You want scorched earth, though.

You think the system is beyond corrupt.  So you use a "discussion" board to post dire warnings as in "The End is Near".

It's puzzling.

Whenever you see the word misinformation, it usually means missinginformation. Then, one always ends up with disinformation. The way of the click hungry media.

I am not the one whom scorched HM Confederation

I saw it coming from some ways off perhaps

but I quickly realized that this was an epoch which I could do nothing to stop

I am not warning that the end is near

I am simply observing that the collapse has already happened

as the Liberals & Red Tories are calling for the guillotines to be brought in the apple carts

the rise of a Committee for Public Safety in so called "Canada"

is already the Brave New World ascended

Unless you believe our Conservatives are more like your Democrats in which case you'll likely never be happy about anything our government does.

Yeah... whatever you are saying here, it's dire.  Whether the sky is falling, or it fell, it's dire.

The problem with the authoritarian crowd that wants to control and silence disinformation is and has always been, who gets to decide what is disinformation?

Because during COVID we were outright lied to by the WHO and governments about masks. We were fed major lies on both sides of the mask issue. First, they lied to us and told us not to wear them, then they lied to us and told us we had to wear them to stop the spread and that next to worthless cloth over your face would help or that surgical masks were effective... all lies.

You know who was silenced by YouTube and others because of government pressure? Those telling the truth.

People like @herbie push the pandemic as reason why we should silence people... when it was the very people in power who were wrong.

The best way to deal with disinformation is to counter it with truth, not to silence it through authoritarian government controls.

Those in power will abuse their power.

Freedom is scary, deal with it.

LOL, when people have to tell you they are ignoring you...
