I am surprised to see no thread so far on this topic/

Yes the bloodthirsty regime of Bashar Al Assad is coming to an end as the Islamists HST rebels and the other opposition group backed by Turkey, the Syrian National army are fast advancing towards the Capital Damascus.

The civil war started in 2011 and violently came to an end with deadly help from the twin evils, the Russian Putin and Islamic Republic of Iran. Since then Syria under Assad became a colony of Russia and a satellite of Islamic Republic in which the former used Syria as a pathway to supply the terrorist Hezlollah organization with weapons including missiles and drones. Assad dynasty is coming to end end after 54 years in less than 54 hours though I am not sure the alternative, if the HST are any better than Bashar Assad as it is thought that they have links to ISIS and Al Qaida.

In the civil war between 2011 and 2016 and subsequent intervention by Iran regime and Russia to keep Assad in power hundreds of thousands of civilian were killed and millions homeless and fled as refugees to neighboring countries or Europe and North America, Hopefully with the end to civil war those refugees will go back. Nobody want more Syrian refugees in Canada,

It is hoped that the fall of this bloodthirsty regime will be soon followed by the fall of another bloodthirsty regime in Tehran which is the head of octopus, though the alternative regime in Iran will be a democratic one because in Iran we have a much more advanced secular non-Arab nation of Iran who are starving for a democracy and free Iran.

Unfortunately we all share the planet , so none of us is unaffected by events even ten thousand miles away. In the last civil war for example we had to take over 30,000 Syrian refugees almost all ending up on social assistantships we all paid for them not to mention health care.

The fall of Assad may not affect us much directly but if it is followed by the fall of Islamic Regime in Iran then this will affect us all very positively in the West as a great enemy of humanity and Western values and democracy and the head of evil octopus supporting terror throughout the world and its terrorist proxies such as Hezbollah and Hamas soon to be armed with weapons of mass destruction such as nuclear bombs will go to the garbage bag of history and the nation of Iran and the whole world will be freed from their terror.

Not that I care one way or the other but...we did not "have to" take in all those Syrians. All Libbies accomplished is to greatly increase the financial burden on Canadians, create social friction and increased racial tensions.

Good work Libbies...

BTW...now the evolution of ISIS has power in Syria. Brilliant.

Gee Mike. A backhanded insult from you? What a surprise...

Is anything I said not true? Wanna debate the facts? Or just make cowardly, backhanded comments...

I didn't insult you personally, I just pointed out that some people will only have comment on this in them a context familiar to them. For you, it's Syrian refugees to Canada.

The relevance of that topic seems low to me. Don't be offended.

If you want to start a thread on Syrian refugees, go ahead. I might comment I might not.

I'm sorry you're offended. You shouldn't look for my approval on anything. Just be yourself. Have a great day

But this thread is in the "Rest of the World" section of forum not in the Canadian Politics!!

No I am teasing you now, I understand your point. I am hoping that now that Syria is free, most of those refugees go back to Syria and Canada will be free too :)

Bashar Assad murderous regime collapsed this morning. Syrian rebels entered Damascus and Assad fled likely to Russia, People in Stria are celebrating some entering Assad's' palace. Hopefully this is the beginning of fall and death of all dictators in Middle East.

I am very cautiously optimistic. Out with the old dictator and in with the new dictatorial Islamic fascist power. I hope that is not the case.

A couple of things come to mind regarding the fall of the Assad regime. Will the support for this fall usher in the acceptance and normalization of Al Qaeda and ISIS at some level? Presumably the rebels will be the basis for Syria's next army which could easily turn into a sticky wicket for the west.

Netanyahu certainly appears to be feeling jubilant but how much will this soften relations between Israel and its presumably sworn terrorist enemies?

Interestingly enough, Israel's army was constituted out of various terror groups which suggests acceptance is just an inevitability of circumstances and falling chips.

Another big question is how this will be turned into an issue for western lefties and righties to squabble over. Settling that here will likely provide the shape of things to come over there.

I get the sense this development has people like Putin and Trump scratching their heads and asking one another...now what?

A government without public oversight is like a nuclear plant without lead shielding.

President Trump has ordered ; "stand by, wait out"

if we do have to strike them, best to let them congregate and mass on the battlefield first

only when the rebels occupy the regime targets do they become vulnerable

since we only want to come by air & sea

economy of force operation ; no boots on the ground

Well, the IDF has been going to town blowing up every single weapons depot they can, focused on anything that could have chemical weapons.

They took Mt Hermon too.

I have a feeling whatever "we" do it will be to just give the IDF whatever they need to do it for us.

Anything that weakens Islamic Republic and Russia is a good thing. Though I agree the HTS component of the new Syrian regime are Islamic fascists, however, there are other components too like the Syrian National Army and the Kurds. One thing is sure. The fact that the HST leader has asked the current Prime Minister under Assad to continue governing is a good sign indeed.

Nothing could be worse than Assad for Syria, With the help of murderous regimes in Iran and Russia he killed 650,000 of Syrians, destroyed towns and villages and made over 7 million Syrians homeless and refugees and used chemical weapons on children. The new regime must demand his return and put him on trial for war crimes and hang him for that.

That really is encouraging.

This is the best time to cure the cancer by removing the cancerous organ from the planet and end terror and risk of nuclear weapons in the hands of fanatical terrorists. The cancerous organ is the Islamic Republic of Iran.

1 - These terrorists recently lost their terrorist proxies, the Hamas and Hezbollah significantly weakened thanks to Israel.

2 - Their only ally the murderous regime of Assad just kicked out of Syria for good.

3 - There is significant discontent internally as the nation of Iran taken hostage by these murderous bastards are in war with this regime since the Woman Life Freedom uprising of 2022. Millions of Iranian women refusing to submit to the oppressive backward reactionary rules of a bunch of subhuman mullahs and refuse to wear the hated hijab.

4 - The economy is in a disastrous shape with very high inflation, devaluation of currency and high unemployment and discontent of the young generation.

5 - President Trump will be soon in White House and will tighten the sanctions on this terrorist regime. Unlike the coward Biden, this President will not prevent Israel to attack and destroy regime's nuclear and oil facilities.

ISRAEL WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR? THE OPPORTUNITY OF THE CENTURY IS JUST AROUND THE CORNER. ATTACK THE IRGC BASES AND THE MILITARY AND ECONOMIC LIFELINES OF THIS EVIL REGIME.

His father destroyed Hama in 1982.

Americans bombed Belgrade in 1998. They destroyed bridges across the Danube.

BTW, they also destroyed the Chinese embassy in Belgrade.

(The Americans claimed that it was a mistake; people were on training. I suspect this claim is true.)

Thank God that in Canada, we have such leaders as Laurier, Macdonald, Trudeau Snr.

Mulroney, a Catholic - married to a Slav.

Leaders who cross lines.
