Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau in panic. Canada was offered to be 51st US state.

Trump will replace King Charles III as head of Canada's state.

Love Trumps comment. Trudeaus socialist agenda has destroyed Canada. Inclusion into the US republic might be just what's needed. At the very least a strong unified North America economic and social policy is required to move forward.

That would be a lifesaver for Canada

Oh FFS the Old Orange Fool shows what a complete boor he is by saying such a thing and you disloyal pigs are criticizing our PM for it.

Of course he was joking, but a total imbecile like Trump doesn't even have the sense of when or where to not blab such shit out loud.
Are you offended he didn't offer to "buy" Canada like he did Greenland?

There is no appetite in Canada to become a 51st state other than from MAGA wannabes. Trudeau is just a prime minister and we can get rid of him just like any other PM.

Why would the US want to inherit/ buy or what ever, a dumpster fire like Canada..i can see some provinces that have value...it would require a major effort and major investment to fix everything.... Joining the US has very little draw backs...leaving behind a smoking ruin of Canada in the rear view mirror would not be all that hard..since most Canadians have already done so in some form or another...

We, the willing, led by the unknowing, are doing the impossible for the ungrateful. We have now done so much for so long with so little, we are now capable of doing anything with nothing.

Platforms like this forum and Twitter are not the best way to gauge Canadian public opinion. Trump's favorability rating is under 30% in Canada. I would imagine perhaps 1 in 10 Canadians would be in favour of joining the United States.

However, this forum is infested with MAGA hyenas, sprouting off nonsense. One may get the opinion that Canadian's cannot wait until Trump "liberates us" from our "tyrannical communist government. by listening to these Kremlin-backed MAGA accounts.

Speak for yourself. Sad that you think we aren't capable of fixing what is wrong with our own country and have to join the dysfunctional gong show that is going on to the south of us.

I’ve for years thought that Canadians and Americans should have the right to live and work in each other’s countries.  Keep the border as a checkpoint for security purposes.  Certain Canadian departments could be eliminated by adopting US standards, which we have to meet for product exports anyway.  Canadians could still keep out the guns and have residential tax paying requirements for Americans to access our healthcare.  I’m sure Americans would have their own requirements for Canadians living in the US.  Probably voting would remain off limits for Canadians in the US and vice versa.  There are sensible ways to do this.  It would also mean eliminating most trade barriers, essentially making Canada and the US a single economic zone.

In 1970, Nixon did the same as Trump.

Trudeau Snr sent emissaries south.

====

When Trudeau Snr went south, he spoke in the US Congress and reminded everyone about sport fans: most New York hockey players are born in Canada, and most Toronto baseball players are born in America.

We Canadians want the Chicago Black Hawks to win.

Americans want the Maple Leafs to win.

Canadians want American baseball players to win.

Americans want Canadian hockey players to win.

===

There is an important Canadian lesson in this.

But you can't get rid of your head of state Charles III except if Trump takes over your colonial Disneyland.

exactly

Alberta is welcome to join Montana, but otherwise, the rest of Commie Canada is best kept at arms length

I am speaking for myself, and i'm sure i'm not alone...If we are capable of fixing what is wrong, what is it we are waiting for, lightning bolts to come out of the sky...It has been 8 plus years this current government has governed, elected 3 times, which tells me a couple of things , Canadians are content with the dumpster fires, it has become normal, or we can't fix anything with out investing billions...which we don't have, thanks to the liberals spending...

The main point of my post was to ask why the US would want Canada in the first place...it has been run to the ground, every department needs a sh1t ton of work that only money can solve, it's own people don't care enough to make change, we think that our responsibility stops at the voting booth. Why would they ever think that would be a good idea...What would Canada's left ever do, even the democrat's are extreme right compare to our left...

I would only wish i had the average american problems...and granted both nations have there problems, but to say the US is more dysfunctional than Canada is just a lie....

The gain for them is being able to buy a safe haven against a range of potential crises in the US as well as unlimited access to our resources.  We benefit from access to their market.  They benefit from access to the largest expanse of undeveloped land in the world.  I’m not saying they or we will go for it.   I’m all about expanding options.

America has all the same resources

America already has unlimited access to your resources

America already has unlimited access to all your lands

if anything, Canada engages in subsidized dumping of resources into the American market

America is holding all the cards

it's not actually a business proposition ; the only saving grace for Canada is a shared culture

in that Americans have a soft spot for Canadians;  Americans like Canadians, personally

Yes but America only has access to our resources, including Trump’s much-loved “black gold”, 60% of which comes from Canada, through USMCA.  If Trump wants to reopen that trade agreement by imposing 25% tariffs, we can take that equal access to our resources clause out of the agreement.  I’m not saying it has to come to that.  I actually think Trump is seeing what he can finesse through the bellicose tariff threat, which may settle down with assurances on the border.  Still, there’s nothing to prevent us from countering with similar high-impact measures, even if we’re more impacted by a trade war.

Canada is used to feeling the brunt of American trade measures.  It’s one of the reasons Canada tries to keep a more level and controlled economy through supply management and similar policies.  As the small, dominated partner, we have to be more careful.  It makes us less dynamic but also a safe haven (think banking, public safety, and universal healthcare).   It is a selling feature for some talented migrants, along with our relatively harmonious society (less so under the Liberals). You won’t get as rich, but you might not get as destitute when shit hits the fan.  At least that’s the argument.  I’m not sure it’s as true anymore.

I walk with the Nazarene, come what may

Canada has rendered itself into a godless atheist Marxist Leninist lunatic asylum

Canada is making a dire mistake, if Canadians surmise that MAGA is motivated by financial gain

we will suffer whatever privations as necessary, to defend American freedom
